Related releases

The original Seastones LP comprised track 2 only;

  • Seastones, Ned Lagin, 1975, Round Records, RX 106

There is a separate discography entry for the original release.

A rough mix, 'basic structure' of Seastones was included on;

  • Sampler For Deadheads (EP 3 of 3), Robert Hunter / Ned Lagin and Phil Lesh, 1975, Round Records SMP 03

Ned Lagin joined members of the Grateful Dead during a number of Dead shows in 1974 for improvised, electronics segments of the show, usually following the set break. These are usually described as Seastones or Phil and Ned. One of these segments has been released on CD;

  • Dick's Picks Vol. 12, Grateful Dead, 1998

Information about Garcia's collaborations with the other musicians on this recording; Crosby (solo and as a member of Crosby, Stills and Nash), Dryden and Slick (Jefferson Airplane), Freiberg and Mickey Hart; can be found within the discography entries for appropriate albums.

Related tapes

Ned Lagin sat in with the Dead, playing during Dead songs, once in 1970, twice in 1974 and once in 1975.

The Phil and Ned or Seastones sections of Dead shows played after a set break featured in about twenty Grateful Dead shows between June and October 1974. These sections always involve Lagin and Lesh. Sometimes other members of the Dead, including Garcia, join in.

Many Phil and Ned performances circulate on tape but take care when looking for these as they are sometimes omitted from tapes in misguided attempts to fit long shows onto two tapes.
