WOOOWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE....5 DAYS AND COUNTING.....
ISO two tix for Saturday night.
Can't friggen wait!!!
trying to get down to philly last minute .... tickmaster still has seats, but they're behind the stage. anyone sat behind the stage in philly before ?? is view totally obstructed ?? sound ok ??
I have 2 tix for both Saturday and Sunday. They are mail order valid. Saturday
is section 325, upper (but not top) level at the side of the stage.
Sunday tix are section 306. Not the greatest, but surely inside the building!
Available at cost to anyone who's going to the show. E-mail me if interested.
I sat behind the stage in Philly for a Dead show in 86 I think. The sound was great and you are real close to them, if that matters. I couldn't see anyone in the band, with one exeception. If you are a fan of drumz you basically get a front row seat of Mickey and Billy working thier magic. It was a real treat!
Thanks for the response Dan ... Im tempted to go for those tix now.
Kefta - I have a Saturday 23, 2002 Seat Location: Section 304 Row 5 Seats 10 - 10 available if you need one or Check the TicketBoard and Rides for other offers...
I saw the dead in 94 at the spectrum and sat behind the stage. It was very cool during drumz and space. Saw Jerry's teleprompter all night too. It was the first Unbroken Chain also.

Thanks David C. - decided to go for the backstage seats cause I needed 4 tix
....
Nugs4ALL - not to be a pain the arse, but think you meant '95 - I was at
that show too, but had better seats. 6th row floor for the 1st ever unbroken
chain !!!
Was at the continental show last night - some great tunes !!!
Kefta - Glad to see you are in...
So I just called the FU Center to see when the lot would open up and they told
me 5pm.
I don't know what they're smokin' but that seems a bit unrealistic
to me. Got a whole set up planned including canopy, propane heater with cooking
attachmentin light of the foul weather they're calling for. I figure a nice
pre-made pot of chili will heat up nicely out there.
So what time are y'all arriving, and what does your pre-show consist of????
chili?
did someone say chili?
yeah, my bad, it was 95' at the spectrum.
Never been to spectrum, what is the scene like? Just wondering how early to head down there?
5 P.M. they say huh? yeah right!!! They will have a tough time getting everyone parked and in the show in that amount of time. They get so scared when people want to have fun huh? I bet the lot opens a bit earlier for an eagles or Flyers game!!!
Eagles is an all day drunken affair, and Monday night Eagles games are notorious
for the added drunking time!
They used to have a hard time getting everyone into the Spectrum in time. I
suggest not waiting until the last possible second before heading in.
I will probably have 2 tix back/side(keyboard) of stage 1st level for
Sat and 2-4 tix at the near "blue line" on Jimmy's side for Sunday.
Will update ASAP.
I have sat on side of stage for many a Spectrum show. It is a great spot. In
fact was there for 03.19.95 UBC. Saw it come up on teleprompter. Anyhow you
are real close, and if you have a true side view you get their faced much of
the time.Sound on side has been good, but not sure if will be same setup as
GD.
Gary are you Rob S's friend? Check out my profile name if so.
it's garv. But thanks for the info man. I was gonna get there at like 3 at the latest, do the shakedown street thing. Was side stage in albany and it sounded real good. have a good show.
I need one ticket for sat at Philly if someone has a extra one to sell please e mail me thanks
We're having a Bill Kreutzmann Art show at the Holiday Inn Stadium (right
next to the stadium and the spectrum), on Sunday from 12-5PM. Billy has
been doing some crazy psychadelic artwork which is printed onto canvas and stretched
on wood frames. We did shows at alpine and just a few days ago in boston so
be sure to come by this one! Billy will be coming by to talk with buyers and
sign art for a part of the reception. He was there in boston from 2:30-4 if
that gives any reference frame. We also have some signed posters if your wallet
is looking too thin for a big piece of art.
Check out the webstie at
http://www.ocean-spirit.net
And come say hi! I'm harry, have met some of y'all at the phil shows
the last few years.
And by the way, the boston shows were GREAT and I am psyched for Hartford tomorrow
night... woo hoo!! and then both phillys....
Hey now - so the lot opens at 5. Does anyone know how many cars it holds and what they charge? I think the website said 6000 cars but nothing about price. Dickface Snyder charged $25 for parking at FedEx field in DC for the Stones show. Luckily I didn't bother going.
The lot holds 6000 cars and 12,000 nitrous tanks.
I see these songs being broken out over the weekend:
Unbroken Chain
Dancin' In The Streets
Why Don't We Do It In The Road
Gimme Some Lovin'
Brian - The Lots will be open by noon, and it's $10 to park. Sat will be easy parking, TOO is the only performance. Sun we have to share the lots with the fans of Shakira who is playing in the FU Center.
Has anyone made plans for a setbreak meeting spot?
Anyone driving down from NYC/Northern Jersey: I'm going to be meeting Carlin
at the Walt Witman rest area between exits 3&4 on the NJ turnpike around
3:30 tomorrow afternoon. We're gonna Caravan down from there...
We'll be meeting in front of the restaurant area. Look for the dude in the
black baseball cap worn backwards (him) or the dude in the black velvet
hat with buttons (me)....
The backstage in the spectrum isn't too bad. It depends on the stage back drop. I have sat there for Phish & GD, but that was in like 95-96. I think you should be OK if you go with it.

What, is bucky god? Is he the spoke's person for all the zoners? No, he just a dude, like you and me.Really, bucky, your taking all this to seriuos for what it is. I enjoy reading reviews and peoples articles, but your shit is crap. Only because you come off to one-sided, narrow minded, which perhaps you are. The music is graet, from the first note to the last note. It's alot work the the boys are doing, and it's a real treat too those of us you are forever gratful. Telling the reader, what they should have or haven't, played, where and when in the sets, is really stupid, dry, and dull. You seem to be missing what really is important. The music, the experience, and those that have at one time loved it, but have since died, and left thier memories behind with thier friends and loved ones. So please Bucky boy, write something with passion, experience, and with knowledge.

Excuse me please, but I don't recall even posting here on this thread. Did
I? I simply popped in here to see what was played.
It seems to me I reviewed TWO shows, the ones I was at.
A review is an opinion. You got one, I got one, Mickey Hart apparently posts
one, so do lots of people. Big deal. These shows are the toy store of life...........
To me, it's just an escape from everyday life.
To many of you, it IS life.
I think it's you who's taking all this to seriuos.
If I'm such a jerk, why does ANYTHING I say bother you?
As I said earlier, R-E-L-A-X.
everyone who writes in reviews-thank you.
everyone who rips on reviewers 'cause they disagree with them-shut the hell
up.
this is the review section. opinions are sought here. is that a word? sought.
can't wait till Indy & Chicago.
OK. Here is my opinion(even though it is right!)about the show tonight.
Very solid. Phil was on. He played a lot of lead bass guitar line, and sang
a lot. His voice was great, and I have never seen him smile more. Jimmy was
on as well. Mickey playing it up, Bill looking bored out of his mind, keyboards
very nice. Highlights too numerous, but a monster Terrapin and a groovin Sugaree.
Sound was usual Spectrum. We were first level near back of floor on Jimmy's
side. Tough to hear Bob or keyboards, Jimmy could always be louder and Phil
was surprisingly crisp and crunchy.
What a great time. Can't wait for tomorrow night.
Why does everyone have a problem with Bucky's reviews? Is it because they actually look at the music and don't just gush? Really what is the problem with giving actual insight. I'm a college student down south and don't have the money to get to any of these shows which is regretful to me but I find Bucky's reviews of these shows (PLQ ones for that matter also) to be some of the best ones to read because they actually give commentary, not just "oh wow what an incredible show." Maybe he is too negative for some people's tastes, but I don't see why offering criticism makes someone an asshole
Just got back from an amazing showing at the spectrum!!! 10 out of 10. That show was perfect, the absolut mecca of jam. Phil started one line early, and that was the worst thing to happen all night! Longest Shakedown I've heard in a long time. CAN'T WAIT FOR TOMORROW
The only thing I didn't like about this show is that the fact that there is no way that tom. night's show can top it. The second set tonight will be the highlight of the tour and should eventually be released as a Dick's Pick. It was that good!!!
Tonights 23/11/02 show is playing on Zone Radio 3:01ET 'Here Comes Sunshine' -- I've been listeing since Cumberland and everyone knows it's always great to hear tonights show on the same night. Especially from Hundreds of Miles away!!!
where is Zone Radio ...on the internet?
nevermind..I found it ...duh
It is sweet to hear tonights show...wow...
still the sweetest sound this side of heaven!
My darling...........Sugaree!!!!!!!!!
Shake it,,,,shake it ,,,,Sugaree
Susan's voice was like listening to an angel, give the girl a guitar and
let her loose.
A very powerful show:
Starting with Sat Night, last time we were at a Rat Dog show was a Sat night
and Bobby did it there as well, I was happy to hear it again. This tune set
the stage for the rest of the night.
Shakedown rocketed everyone to their feet, jumping up and down dancing in their
seats.
Watching Phil play drums and chimes was so funny, his smile was wide, and he
was having a damm good time, even though he had a small audio issue hearing
what he was doing. This made me so happy to see him having FUN!
More to come as it comes back to me.
I would like to thank all of the tapers that were at the show last night. I
got stuck with tickets in the taper section (I was on the right side, by
the barrier), as did a few other people, even though I wasn't taping.
All of the tapers that I met were very friendly, and welcoming, even though
we were kind of invading their space. I don't understand how they sold people
tickets for that section knowing it would be a taper section, but it all worked
out and they were very nice about it. Anyways, it was a great show, and I'll
try to get a review up later on today. PEACE
Danny
Man, I cannot even begin to put words to describe the show last night. As soon
as they began Sat. Night, I knew we were in for a special one. The feeling was
in the air. HCSS, Lazy Lightning/Supplication...unreal, totally unexpected and
just absolutely right.
I'm just reeling, still...wonderful, beautiful, transcending. Thanks boys,
many times.
Yes give Susan a guitar!!!
what a great time last night! it was a superb show.
set 1
-----
Saturday night - slightly surprised they opened with sat nite as compared to
saving it for the encore. but it was very well played. the band didn't need
any time to warm-up (as compared to everyone who was outside in the parking
lots! ouch that wind was cold), the band went from 0-60 in no time.
cumberland - very nice. love Susan!
Down the road - take it or leave it. love Mickey, but his songs less so.
Bucket - hadn't seen this in such a long time (the drought might stretch
back to Rochester 1987?). really well played.
FTOD - bobby was on acoustic guitar. well played, a bit of a crowd mellower.
extremely nice.
HC Sunshine - YEAH!!! very, very nice. my only criticism was Rob's vocals.
The band seemed to jam with a sweetness that can only be mastered by extreme
cohesiveness. On top of such sweet jams was Rob's vocals. Rob seemed to
be swinging for the fence everytime he sang, but the band wasn't. It just
seemed that Rob was too much (loud?) for the sweet HCS jam. Perhaps
he can come down ever so slightly to match the sweetness of the jam.
Dancin' - very, very nice. love Susan (did I say that yet?).
Hunter
------
can't remember the exact setlist, but he sounded great (much better
than at MCI).
Tiger rose
mission in the rain!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
black muddy river
boys in the bar room!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Set 2
------
shakedown - giantic thunderous opening. Crowd went nuts. the guy next to me
said he got goose bumps when he heard that awesome opening. Really great jams
- very special.
Lightning - I'm not sure I can put into words the complete feeling of bliss
that came across me during Lightning. It was great!! so wonderful! the lightning
was superb, and the supplication jam was completely a gift from the music gods
upon high. This was, IMHO, the highlight of the night. the band's cohesiveness
high an all-time high - it was as if they were playing with one mind. (but
where was Susan during this? Shouldn't she have been out helping Bobby?)
I can't say enough about Lightning->Supplication - listen to it and
you too will understand. (few people in my area seemed to understand/enjoy
Lightning. most everyone sat down or went for another beer. they heard it right?
so how could they pass up the opportunity to enjoy it? that was weird, but maybe
I was in a newbie section?)
Drums - great to see Phil join Bill and Mickey. the three of them seemed to
really be enjoying themselves. Bill and Mickey continued after Phil left, though
Phil was still on stage and cheering them on. Great drums, much better than
at MCI.
Stephen - woke the crowd back up. great version, the band was hitting on all
cylinders. I personally wanted the Eleven for the next blissful experience,
but we got something so sweet...Terrain!
Terrapin - wow! another wonderful feeling of bliss!!!! great jams, and Phil's
vocals were beautiful. the band did an "Inspiration" fake-out. they
came to that part and went there with the music, but didn't sing. the crowd
on the other hand did. the crowd's Inspiration was great too!
Sugaree - Have I mentioned that I love Susan? she was great. the band picked
up the pace of the sugaree during the jams, but slowed back down when Susan
sang. It was an interesting to have the tempo change throughout. susan added
such a wonderful element to such a wonderful song.
GDTR - during Phil's donor rap, bobby was playing tyhe first riff of GDTR.
Bobby obviously has his eye on the curview clock. Really nice.
OVERALL IMPRESSION
------------------
great, great, great show. second set was so impressive. 9.5 out of 10.
where is shakedown in the lot?
Did anyone hear bobby last nite wish someone Happy B-day during (I think)Dancin in The Streets? or did I imagine the whole thing?
-> where is shakedown in the lot?
it's 'round along the perimeters of marrakech
can't miss it
Shakedown was in the VETS lot.
So, did the banner go up in the Spectrum, or what?
-> Did anyone hear bobby last nite wish someone Happy B-day during (I
think)Dancin in The Streets? or did I imagine the whole thing?
Someone(?) wished Woody (Guthrie) a happy 100th birthday during
GDTRFB. You did not imagine it...
Yes - the banner was up!!!
Highlights:
-Being in the Spectrum
-Watching Rasta vomit in the garbage can on the floor of the Spectrum
-Cumberland
-Bucket
-Shakedown opener in set 2
-LAZY LIGHTNING - remarkable!!
-Phil was a riot playing Drums
-St. Stephen - they nailed it
-Sugaree - Susan was great (o.k. she missed some lyrics but it was soooo
soulful- she looked great too!)
-Donor Rap - Phil actually rapped - "If you're not a donor you won't
get a BONER!!" - now THAT's funny!!!
-- THERE'S ANOTHER SHOW TONIGHT!!!!
OK...Ok...
i have no highlight...
i am a puss
hey it happens to the best of us, but i got to experience NOTHING last night...
i barely remember, but what i do remember was watching everything MELT, but
not in a good way...
Looking forward to tonight because i'll get to SEE the show...hopefully
no one saw me!!!
Thanks Bill I thought he said willie!
fabulous show! i didn't see the banner anywhere, i was behind the stage...where was it? i cant imagine what will be played tonite
Tracy - You are in Philadelphia? Where? We have to meet up.
I had stupendous sound quality. I had an amazing show. Shakedown crashed at
the end, the very quickie stop after the aborted jam into Lazy was cool as hell.
Jimmy ran with it, and it was joyous. The Sugaree done Phil style, upbeat at
the end, full of hope...not the Garcia dirge like version...that isn't diss
folks.
The Spectrum is the worst venue on the planet...not taking great times away
from any of you...but I very very quickly remembered why I only did 3 shows
there, despite the proximity. I had a great great time, a few extra seats around
us, and some nice folks. The dude in front of me had wimpy shoulders....good
viewing too. Phil on drums...WOW...well, not the drums, but that Ramu.
There is some incredible stuff going on there, and last night it was all over
the place.
I am not a convert, despite being the biggest pessimist about this. The reunion
factor has nothing to do with it for me...the music is good. I am only about
the music, and there is definitively room in this world for good music. This
is it. I have long said Bobby needed a good band, a new band. This is it. My
biggest joy, seeing Bobby playing up, having fun, singing well. That is joy.
Jimmy is a Rock Star, but we, here, always knew that. Rob is just awesome, and
his vocals are the best enhancement when he is singing with Phil in the difficult
sections...see Inspiration from Dobson Arena. This is good shit. Grab a ticket
if you are on the fence. It is worth the good time, and find some good sound.
It is the difference between fun, and a good dose.
Almost forgot...SUSAN. You are wanted an accepted up there. So, keep contributing
woman. Show the power and spirit you possess. IF the audience cheers for you
don't sink in, then girl, I am going to go and drag you to that mic. You
aren't there to look pretty. I have seen you sing with Warren...sing with
Bobby and Rob for .....sake. Go for it chickie.

I think Woody Guthrie was born in 1912.
HERE COMES SUNSHINE!!!!
To the beautiful girl I was kissing during that song sec.314(a). You
made the evening even more memorable than I could imagine. If you ever read
this, e-mail me.
For now I'll just call you sunshine.
A great show, which could have benefitted from some dynamism in the vocals department.
Bob pretty much mumbled his way through Lazy Lightnin'/Supplication, and
didn't really get the intense screaming inanity going as much as I would
have liked, e.g., in Saturday Night or Hell in a Bucket. Susan really does need
to step up a bit. She sounded great on Sugaree, tho, and I wished she'd
taken a verse in Bid You Goodnight.
Jam-wise, I couldn't have asked for much more, although there were some
lulls in the first set. The sound and separation were not great, perhaps this
was part of the problem with the vocals. But it was louder than in Roanoke and
MCI, the last shows I'd seen, which was a vast improvement.
I looked for the banner when I came in, and was waiting for some sort of ceremony
at the beginning of the show, but never saw any banner and forgot about it after
a while. Where was it?
Probably a more congenial lot scene today, without the cold wind. I think the
lot Caps mentioned as the Zoner meeting place was closed, but the lot diagonally
across 11th/Pattison from there, beside the Vet, was quite happening. many tanks/much
food/vending etc.
get on over there if you can.
see you @ MSG
Banner is up hanging from roof on Phil's side above the back of the floor.
Almost at the ceiling. Really High up there. It is not the original Banner presented
for show#50. That was white with colorful writing. This on e is orange as are
the sports banners hanging.
What a great time. Can't wait until tonight. Hoping for some more obscure
stuff now that the big saturday night show is over. A little looser and more
experimenting tonight.
yeah, but the "53" is tye=dyed!
I'll have to check that out. How about that guy with the twirling light cone wandering throughout the show...nice!
Sugaree from the female perspective, she is one hip lady and a very welcome
addition.
Saturday night opener was a nice change of pace. Cumberland was really hoppin..moments
later I was forced to sit with my face in my hands during Down the Road. Bucket
raged--the Rockstar was in fine form--FOTD felt good.
HCSS was real nice. Candace started to flex her brain on this one..flowers blooming
with a city in the background..wonderful shades of gold. Maybe it was me but
at one point it seemed as if they did a "hand off" to Mr.Sunshine himself.
First Rob with the "here comes sunshine"..on to Phil-Susan-Bob--they
all kinda turned towards Jimmy..it seemed a bit suggestive..maybe not. Dancin
brought the funk.
HUNTER
Mission was very sweet "born of rainy Saturday"
Eyes misted a bit for Black Muddy River. It was so nice to see the man who has
given us so much light through his words having fun and maybe remembering his
old friend last night.
Shakedown--always a pleasure. I will admit that I was not all that fired up
about the Lightning. I was pretty gone at this point and actually took a seat
for the second time..it was short lived. (((WHAT A MONUMENTAL JAM)))
Drums--The best I've seen in a very long time. Again Ms.Brightman never
ceases to amaze. Phil was so funny up there, his good time up there really spilled
out to the crowd.
Stephen felt crisp and powerful..air guitars a plenty. The gravity of Phil singing
"Lady Finger..." was lost on no one. He has such a presence on stage.
Terrapin had the old cosmic vibes adrift.
Sugaree was beautiful.
What a funny Donor Rap. Phil was not only rapping he kinda looked as if he was
doing some sort of dance type thing.
GDTRFB cooked
Bid You Goodnight was just perfect.
What a lot..complete with a Dude riding around a mini yamaha. Black Holes were
a nice warm up for a dank style cheese steak from Pat's. Found the a nice
little hole in the ground "Drinkers" 50 cent Pabst if you shotgun it
at the bar.
Nothing but love for the folks in attendance last night...it's all still
sinking in.
Couldent go to Philly see ya all in Pittsburgh.Cant wait!
One of the most perfect shows ever. Bring Susan on full time. What a difference a week makes. The boys were far superior than last weeks Roanoke or MCI. This was the way it should be and the Spectrum was like coming home. I want to tour full time.
Dew, we hooked up with tickets in quick fasion. I brought your # with me, but got there kind of late and had to hook up with a one Mr. Clifton Hanger/Shag. I can't thank him enough!! I looked for the Zone flag, didn't see it. I'm still processing this whole weekend, and Fafa, expect a call from me this week. Possibly tomorrow. Dew, I'd like to talk to you again, too.
Last night before FOTD they said they were having technical difficulties and
the crew was going to work on fixing them. Then this music started coming out
through the house PA. It was the descending guitar part to "Friend of the
Devil"...it stopped and started, stopped and started a couple times. I searched
the stage and NO ONE was playing, not Bob, not Jimmy, not Phil, not either keyboard
player. The drummers weren't doing anything. Then Phil said something about
"that music that you're hearing, you're not supposed to be hearing
that" or something like that. Anyone know what he said?
It sounded to me like some kind of sequencer or something playing FOTD. Once
they did start the song, I thought I could hear it playing behind the band,
playing the changes, etc. (I was sober, btw.)
So what was that? Do they have some kind of sequencer or something playing along
with them? Was it some kind of click track type thing that they're only
supposed to hear in their in-ear monitors?
Anyone know what the deal was? And what was it Phil said?
thanks,
John
Haven't seen anyone mention that the version of "Dancin in the Streets" that TOO are doing is the 70s "disco" version not the 60s/80s version. Thought folks who weren't there might like to know. Also, FOTD is done much faster than the electric Dead did it.
dude. now you know the secret. don't let them know where you live!

Other Ones relive past glory, but can't wake the Dead
By Steve Klinge
For The Philadelphia Inquirer
Since their beginnings in the mid-'60s covering old country-blues songs,
the Grateful Dead always trafficked in nostalgia. The Other Ones - the living
Dead of Bob Weir, Phil Lesh, Bill Kreutzmann and Mickey Hart, plus guitarist
Jimmy Herring, keyboard players Rob Barraco and Jeff Chimenti, and guest vocalist
Susan Tedeschi - offer nostalgia compounded; without Jerry Garcia, they are
a ghostly reminder of what the Dead once was.
Saturday night's sold-out concert at the First Union Spectrum had all the
hallmarks of a Grateful Dead show. Tie-dyed shirts and peasant blouses were
de rigueur for all ages, as was the fragrance of patchouli oil.
Once the show began, with a tuning-up jam that morphed into "One More Saturday
Night," so did the noodle dancing, that serpentine sway of blissful Deadheads.
The performance followed the arc of many of the Dead's 53 Spectrum shows:
first, an hour of shorter songs ("Hell in a Bucket," "Goin'
Down the Road Feeling Bad"), ending with a joyous cover of "Dancing
in the Street."
Then, after a solo acoustic set from Dead lyricist Robert Hunter, came 100 minutes
of lengthy jams such as "Terrapin Station" and, yes, an interminable
"drums and space" improvisation.
The Dead were the original jam band, using songs as leaping-off points for instrumental
excursions built on Weir's energetic rhythm guitar and Jerry Garcia's
cascading, jazzy leads. But, though Herring mimicked Garcia's tone and style,
favoring runs of liquid high notes and leisurely soloing through "Here Comes
Sunshine" and "Supplication," rarely did he guide the band into
new territory.
Worse still, Weir's electric guitar was often inaudible. Midway through
the first set, the bearded, grizzled Weir switched to an acoustic guitar to
lead a great, harmony-filled version of "Friend of the Devil," which
gave the sound crew a chance to fix the problem. They didn't, and even in
the second set, Weir's guitar often couldn't be heard.
Though a spirited version of "St. Stephen" and Tedeschi's soulful
singing on "Sugaree" were highlights, the Other Ones offered little
more than an attempted reenactment of past glories.
Hey, I'm a noodle dancer? Is that a compliment or diss?
What a long, strange, nostalgia trip it's been. I'll take more, please.
>HEY NOW ALL...SPECTRUM IS W/O A DOUBT THE VERY BEST ARENA ON THE EAST
The Spectrum is by far and away the worst venue in the East Coast. Not taking
away from anyones childhood memories...I got to the main entrance and in NEON
lights of flashbacks realized why I only did three shows at the Rectrum...
That said, had a truly great great time. This show was better as a whole then
Sunday...but Sundays first set is classic. Some very very good stuff went down.
>>How about that guy with the twirling light cone wandering throughout
the show...nice!
He sounds familiar Richard. I've only seen one very "old school"
head w/ that spinning ball at every Oakland Coliseum show I attended. Wonder
if that was him. :*) Thanks for sharing that, brings back some happy
memories!!
>>>Wonder if that was him.
it was
Very nice to meet some more zoners...SI and Kenny,Carlin,Dewit,Huck
The second set blew my mind,a few lyrical(HCSS) and timing miscues("inspiration").Thought
they cut the Dancin intro way short.
Best Lazy Lightning I've ever heard. Before the Terrapin miscue it seemed
like they might go into something else but didn't , may have been Terrapin>Sugaree>Inspiration.
A GREAT second set!!!
It's funny--what you heard as a miscue during Terrapin I thought was a purposeful
change--a "fakeout" is how someone described it above. I thought I saw
Weir signaling everyone else to NOT launch into "inspiration" but to
continue building the tension for a few more seconds. Pretty sure I am in the
minority on this, and I was sitting (dancing) far from the stage.
Also did anyone else a He's Gone tease during the outgoing jam to Terrapin?
Miscue or not, I thought this Terrapin was a monster, really, really powerful.

Did anyone else hear/see this?
Wow just back from Philly and still piecing it all back together. Sat nite show
was amazing.
Glad they opened with Sat Nite to get it over with (sorry, just heard this
tune WAY too much)
Did enjoy how they seemed to mix things around a bit opening with Sat Nite and
throwin bucket in the middle of the set.
They seemed to be having an awful lot of fun up there and that alone was worth
the price of admission.
Cumberland rocked, FOTD was good after they fixed the sound but after the that
the show took on a life of its own. HCSS and Dancn were STELLAR. Rob cranked
it out on Sunshine and the freaky disco version of Dancin was just what the
doctor ordered. Seemed to put everyone into their happy place and smiles and
hugs were abundant. Somehow after sunshine and dancin you just knew it was gonna
get crazy.
The sound in the Spectrum was MUCH better then the Meadowlands. Susan was all
powered up and you could really hear each individual instrument. MAde for a
much better show.
2nd set Phil took it by the horns, make no mistake about it. From the first
WHOOMP of Shakedown ya were swept away to where only Phil can take ya.
Phil turned the corner and didnt look back though LL>Supplication and was
havin sooooo much fun he even did a lil drummin, smiling from ear to ear the
whole time.
Cant even put in words how good that was to see.
After the drums/space phil again took control with a rousing St Stephen, the
scene was hard-core and everyone was out of their seats. Been a long time since
I saw such a large venue get totally rocked out.
The terrapin was out of this world, continuing the magic that he started through
Shakedown he turned it up a notch and we all went along for the ride, and ended
up smack dab in the middle of a Sugaree. Susan on vocals and it was as joyous
and beautiful as it gets. Again I cant express enough what she brought to this
show. Susan seemed to be the straw that stirred the drink last nite.
They encored with GDTRFB>Bid You G'nite and it was PERFECT. Couldnt
ask for a better closer to whisk you back to the hotel.
The show was nothing short of phenomenal. One of those shows where they restore
ya faith in humanity. Im still blown away but those feelings they gave me I'll
carry with me for a very LONG time.
>Glad they opened with Sat Nite to get it over with (sorry, just heard
this tune WAY too much)
Echo, ditto, confirmation. Same for Liberty on Sunday.
so much to say about saturday's show! i had a total blast and thought the boys (and susan) totally outdid themselves. the show was way better than MCI and one of the better post jerry dead-related shows i've seen (which number about 30 or so - mostly Phil & Friends). from where i was sitting (good view from the side of the stage), the first time they came round to "inspiration" it just wasn't high enough so they circled back round for another pass. everybody appeared solidly on the same page. also, i too heard the canned guitar before FOTD. not sure what was up with that! did anyone notice susan's oh-so-cute little curtsy after the warm reception she received for the first verse of sugaree? enjoy the rest of the tour - i'm sure MSG will be monster.
AAAAHhhhhhh Thanks for The Thoughtful Posts You guys I Wanted BAdly to go To Philly but... I got the picture ..And you got the lightnin supp WAAAAAA! But I'd a Loved Liberty. Ever since I saw Rat dog Do That at 9:30 Club after 9/11 It's had a special place in my heart. Then I learned and played it w/friend Bill, It's a cool tune Oh but Then Golden Road ,,,Hmm Slow ? Well I gotta hear it. seems like It aughtta befast like orig but hey You never know I'd A loved the fast dancin for a change YOu guys Got Some Rock! I Can't wait to see The msg list hope they Do A fullThat's it for the other one or dark star/mountain jam ooo! or passenger W/ warren Even Though I'm real glad it's just jimmy! he's shinin and was obscured by Warren Who is kinda heavy on the slide a bit and seems to crowd Jimmy out..IMHO. I love this config. hope to see Susan n all At Pitt's Gotta cook Turkey for the folks er I'd Be Dere tomorrow n ALL Gotta give Thanks hey my first show was Cap center 11/23/78? 22? day before Thanksgivin as I remember What a Trip! luvin it ALL! Chris
The guy with the spinning light was about 50 ish with a funky fuzzy top hat, a long smock type throw, and the light was cone shaped as he twirlled it around in a figure 8 pattern. I've seen this same guy at many shows and it's probably the same guy that you are thinking of dmom. Definately an "old school head". On Sunday he was wearing more lights down the front of his hairy smock. He just walks around twirlling his rotating light cone for everyone to enjoy.
I'LL POST THIS ELSEWHERE
I saw Bobby signal the band during Terrapin to go around one more time before
the vocals. I also heard the He's Gone tease. Bobby's guitar was a little
inaudible (basically been that way since they went MIDI in 89)which
is about the only thing that I agree with the goofball from the Inquier. Straight
music critics never seem to get it. Probly raved about Shakira's show (no
offense to her, of course...shake it, shake it sha-kira). I sure miss Jerry,
but I think Herring is the perfect replacement. He sounds like he belongs, but
does not immitate Jerry. Some of his lines were just freaking cosmic. I love
that guy. There were some miscues and sound problems. Just seems like old times
to me! The yfucked up the beginning of GDTRB. But that is the point isn't
it? For me it has always been a life lesson with the Dead...If you like someone,
you look past their minor foibles and let the true beauty shine through. Its
there (as these shows are evidence) You just have to be open to it.
It was funny to see some peoples reactions. There were a few older heads who
dragged their straight wives there. I remember just loving St Stephen and looking
at the people in front of me just bored out of their skulls. I loved both shows!!!Liked
Satuday better though. WoooHoooo. I'd like to see some sort of TOO festival
this summer like Phil did!!!!!!
oh yeah and one more thing. The shake it down shake it down now in Shakedown was histerical!!!!!!!!!I Love these guys!!! Does any one know where to DL a sbd yet?
no doubt the tch. difficulty sound was just a stuck bobby loop--no biggee
Lazy Lightning
The Way You Always Electrify Me
Someday I Know You'll Satisfy Me
And All That Lightning Will be My Lightning Too
My Lightning Too...
RIGHT ON BOBBY!
As a veteran of many 1990's era Spectrum shows, I can honestly say that
Saturday stood up to the rockin' days of old. There's nothing like it
when the boys are on for the Philly crowd. Much better than than the MCI show.
And for those like me who were too young when LL>Supp was being played in
the early 80's, hope you enjoyed it as much as I did. Bobby's moves
were money, head flip and all! Oh, and what'd every body else think about
Mickey's FBI T-shirt?
I turned to the guy next to me and said "Huh, I didn't know Mickey was in the FBI." I loved it.
I thought Saturday night was magic. I might drop a notch on you deadometers
when I tell you this, but I never saw The Dead. I'm 31 now and I had plenty
of oppurtunities in the 80's and 90's to see them, but things just work
out that. I will say that even in '86, I knew people that went to shows
and didn't love and appreciate the music like I did.
First off, got my ticket via miracle from Caps. Got to the lot and thought that
was cool, but spent all my time trying to find you people. Enter the show. Saturday
night opener. I said out loud to the guy next to me, "Glad they're getting
this out of the way". I guess I'm not the only one. Cuberland was sick.
Susan is cool. I don't think she's really needed, but her presence is
welcome. Then the Mickey song starts and I repeat what I said during OMSN to
the guy next to me. Then it happened. The jam before friend Of The Devil hit
me right where I needed it. I fires up one of the special "Zone" doobs
I brought and smoked it by myself into FOTD. I thought I wanted this song to
end much like I did OMSN, but this FOTD was different. It was very cool. The
jam after was better than the first. I had to take a leak during Here Comes
Sunshine. Damn beer. I was surprised that the hallway was so full of people
during the show. I still heard most of it. Dancin' didn't move me. Never
did.
Hunter's set I decided to go find Kelly who said he was going to be behind
the stage in the hallway. Sure enough, there he was. He's a real nice guy
and if I wasn't so high and trying to get back to my seat, I'd have
hung out with him a little longer and had some beers or something.
Shakedown opener for 2nd set got me up and DANCING!!!! The rest of the set is
almost a blur of sound, color and positive vibes. When Terrapin started, I just
about jumped over the railing down to the floor. I had just smoked another special
"Zone" J and I was just so happy that they broke it out. Phil phucking
rocks and I can't think of any other show by any band that I was as tuned
into as this one. Sugaree sounded great. Phil's donor rap was hilarious.
GDTRFB and then BYGN were perfect endings to a great show.
This show was the only show I'll see on this tour and I would not be surprised
if the people that see many will say that Philly Saturday was the best show
of the tour. It was that good.
I really enjoyed Saturday night as well. Don't have much time to review. Didn't get in until the middle of Cumberland ~ due to the hubby eating 2 of our brownies and having to carry him in. Only in Philly can you get away with being carried through security! Was really wanting that Dancin' and was very pleased to hear it. Sugaree sounded sweet and the GDTRFB and BYGN were grate! Had a grate time and met lots of grate peeps! SI, GCarlin, and Dewit ~ wish I had more time to hang but friends were standing outside the Spectrum waiting for their tickets, which we had! Look forward to hangin' with you guys again.
maybe im too old.
BUT, as far as im concerned
"THEY WERE F^#$%#in' GREAT"
Its 2002... the 60s' 70'.. etc. are gone.
At least they're still playin'
And to that Inquire guy...
"Get a grip dude, you're way clueless"
the banner was not the right banner. The one dedicated before was tie dye not black and orange. i have a picture. as soon as i can i'll upload it to show y'all.
