What a show at Sunrise last night.

First, since I live only 1/2 mile from the place, it was like havin' Phil play in my back yard. Literally. But before you boogie on down to the show, be sure and drop off a few drops of blood. It was real nice to sit with the man for 5 minutes on Sat. afternoon (only after donating, and get there early) He is one cool dude, would you expect anything Lesh..er...less.

He personalizes a poster for you, but he signs freely what you bring..(Personal note, just 1 or 2 items, the other ones are waiting too!) I had him sign an original 1969 poster (black and white haystacks at barn) and a copy of Workingman. Man, I'm in hog heaven...Phil's publicist had me pose next to Phil holding the poster, so look for that shot to appear somewhere soon...

A story: The young girl at the door to the blood clinic had never heard of Phil or ever seen the Dead. The group of us waiting to enter were extolling the virtue's of the good life and I said to her..if she wanted to go tonight, just ask Phil , he'll get you in. She was more than interested in going, but being about 18 or 19,

she was much too shy to ask. So when I sat down, the 1st thing I said to Phil was..I would like to do a nice thing for a total stranger, can you get that young lady and her friend who works here at the blood bank into the show.

Phil didn't hesitate a nanosecond...

"Sure man..she's in"...Julie, I hope you had as Grate...a time as I did.

I won't bother to do a song list, but just let me say this. And coming from an.."Old Head". I did buy that 1969 poster myself.....

People, This is as close to what it was, and as good as it's going to ever be again. Not to be missed....

They band is like a forming embryo. They can see the edge from a short distance, but have not yet ventured up to it, and certainly have not yet dared to hang their toes over. That comes with age.. For me, It was a mental fix that was long over due....this tour will serve the people in need very well. Do not miss a show if possible. The entire show except for only 1 song was all Dead material...(thank you). not that there was anything wrong with that, but next time around, a few more originals to expand the horizons of the mind would be nice....

This Phil line up is the best so far. The first few line-ups were cool and needed and perfect for that time but this lineup is completely insane and perfectly balanced. You can tell they want everything to sound super-dope. God bless!!!

Come on MASON's CHILDREN!!!!!!!!!!!

I have been having a thought lately. Does anyone remember when people would leave Dead shows early? That always made me confused to see people (lots of people) leaving at set break or during space. Well here is my point, if you liked (loved) the Dead then not seeing and supporting Phil is like leaving the big show early. Don't leave early. Come see Phil but come with tickets!!!!

PHIL THE LOVE!!!!

This was the best show I have ever been too. Warren Haynes is not to bad and Jimmy Herring isn't too shabby either. Go see this band. Dark Star, Help>Slip>Franklins, Wharf Rat, Eyes, and the list goes on man. The 13th was bad ass too. St. Stephen>Sugaree>Stephen, need I say more. OK how bout I am the walrus thrown in with a reggae Soulshine and Get together. Yeah that show was good too.

Just cause he is 61 doesn't mean he can't wail.

All you people who have been non-believers when us New Yorkers said this was the second coming now now we were not full of it, well, we were, but it was just another it. Cannot wait until DAR, then Philadelphia, NJ and Roseland. Thank you to the musicians and their families for sharing so much of their time.

Hey y'all. Just to be a nit-picky Virgo, beware the ides of Phil.03/15/40. And yes, Phil dropped a big ole bomb during Ryder. Hoo-Ray! Here Comes Summertime!

By skyydawg on Sunday, April 15, 2001 - 07:26 pm:

Phil is the Dead. Warren, Jimmy, & Phil...let's just say I had goose bumps from the get go. And yes, us southerners did get the boys ready to jam out for all the Yankees up there. Thanks Phil, that was one hell of a show!!!

I caught this incarnation once in Vegas, Halloween weekend, so I knew how smokin they could be, but a two-night stand in my home state made it even sweeter. I prepared for a 60's psychedelic ballroom, and man did I get one. Heavy jamming in the key of Dark Star all weekend, all the sandwiches and filler were delicious, mmmm good. Makes me want to go for broke and crash cool mountain Alpine, what a great change from that good damn hot sun, the security was zippo-unheard of in FL, best lot scene since the days. You folks patiently waiting are in for a piece of heaven. Go on now, enjoy it fully, peace. BC

Wholly donkey doody!!! I gotta say I was in heaven sat night (14th) Franklin’s was awesome, so was Viola Lee Blues. I love the Allmans, and the Dead are my band, this was a sweet and powerful combinations of both, and the crowd was awesome. Go see these guys, they groove. Warren Haynes is totally in his prime right now.

I’ve seen Phil on the east coast, many times, but the Sunrise FLA shows I have to put up there as numero uno. There was a lot of energy, and a great vibe, onstage and off. PLEASE PHIL COME BACK SOON!!!!!!

WOW is all I can say. I caught both nights at Sunrise and was completely blown away.

Highlights for me:

The China Cat from 4/13 had one hell of a groove. The lights were spinnin and Rob's vocals gave me chills. Of course, Phil’s bass was there to keep the groove movin. Jimbo and Warren and Molo are indescribable. I just dig all the band members. The Sugaree from 4/14 must have had three ultra-intense peaks courtesy of Warren and Jimmy. To go back into Stephen from Sugaree was a dream. The Eyes from 4/14 was insane. 4/14 was definitely a Rob and Jimmy night. Jimmy went nuts on the Eyes second solo and really went crazy during the Franklins. There were many other highlights to tell but not enough time. One thing about the second night second set. During the jamming in between Dark Star there was a 3-4 minute playin jam. I am sure of this because the audience went nuts when rob teased it and then the rest of the band jammed on that one sequence.

The Box encore was perfect and was a great ending to the weekend at Sunrise. Phil is incredible and his band is hot. Phil dropped some incredible bombs during the Dark Star, man it gave me chills. The mixture of kind people, little security presence, and out of control music made way for one weekend I will never ever forget. THANK YOU PHIL.

Peace, Aaron

Second night. One of the funnest shows I've ever been to. Thank you kind people at Sunrise. I vote for making Easter Sunrise services a tradition.

Viola Lee. One of the best things I've ever heard. Oh my, this is the real deal.

By Ben Erichsen on Sunday, April 15, 2001 - 09:41 am:

Went to both shows in Sunrise. Both were great but Saturday night was definitely a notch above. The culmination of the first set into Help>Slip>Tower and then the Wharf Rat and an ecstatic I Know You Rider made for an incredible show.

By aikoman on Sunday, April 15, 2001 - 02:51 pm:

Thanks Phil!!!!! A quick weekend flight and I caught two tight shows. Saturday's was a notch above!! Warren belting out A Little Light and Night of a Thousand Stars were hot, but how much better does it get than Golden Road and a smokin' version of Viola Lee Blues!!!!! The song that kept comin' back. I also heard an Eleanor Rigby tease at the end of Dark Star. Hope they pull that one out by the time they make it up I-95 to Philadelphia. Keep up the happy grooves!!!!!!!
