Man, these guys smoked it. Wish I kept a setlist, but there was a solid 1.5 hours of great songwriting and sounds awash in the southwestern "dry heat" (as somebody suggested what New England was experiencing, which frontman guitarist Joey Convertino playfully scolded the idea of).
The opening act Gaby Moreno was just great. She pivoted between bombastic, soulful vocals to strange, almost avant garde baroque pop and throughout put her own indelible stamp on a very fiery style of performance. She's got a GRAMMY-winning album from a few years back, so if you're into fiery la bamba style bounces and interesting stories that dovetail with desert noir style writing, check her out. Her sit-in with Calexico (on a couple songs) was great, understated, stylish, tight.
These guys are veteran desert rockers. They casually remarked on the size of the venue, as well. They just came off a string of really successful dates in assorted and beautiful venues in Europe
