A little early but fuck it it's the only show I'll be able to make it to can't wait!
Who are the "old and new friends"?!?
This just went up but the suspense is killing me.
Kimock is free for the whole run!
as i said on dnc earlier today: it seems a more than a coincidence that on the day that phil l. posted the dates, the following went up on the home page of bruuuce.com:
Latest update - October 22 - We have a huge announcement in the next week, courtesy of Damon Westjohn - stay tuned for more info. Trust me, you are going to like this one!
if true ... YEEEEEEEEEEEEHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Either way, doesn't matter, Phil is back and we know that he is the Thunder God.
My speculation, it has been well over a year since the quintet graced the stage. I believe Phil is going to be putting down a MASSIVE Christmas show with many Phriends. I bet he has a large guest list and will just be bringing them one by one until the end and then a stage full of exceptional musicians throwing down on the big jam!
Either way, thank you Phil for listening and hearing the plea for more of Phil & Friends. Please, OH PLEASE don't forget you promised us another night at the Palace Theatre in Louisville, Ky.
Yeah I'd travel to Louisville for a Phil show - that theatre is GORGEOUS!!!! The staff totally sucks though - way bad attitude - I tried to compliment one of them on the theatre and she said "well it's not like your type would ever appreciate it" - maybe they've improved since so many other jambands have played there since '01.
TOWER THEATRE!!!!!!!!!
Anyone know why on the site it says tickets are available through ticketbastard now, but I don't see anything on there? I also checked pollstar.com and they don't have any of the shows listed either...
I want to see Rob Baracco back on keys....he's super sick.....way better then Chimenti IMHO....
though rumors seem to be bruce will be back.....hmmm, havent ever even heard bruce play with the Dead.....but Rob's fills in songs like Unbroken, and Night of 1000 Stars are just too good. His singing on help is incredibel as well...check out that last Filmore show in Denver last year....probbaly one of the badest H>S>F ever....well 11-17-01 is pretty damn good too....How about Kimmock and Baracco for a line up with Warrer and Molo back on the kit and maybe ....what other line ups sound good? Trey and Page gonna get in there?
oh well...i knew those dates looked familiar. it still sucks though - I miss you Phil!!
Don't believe everything DAMON WESTJOHN tells you, the guy's full of shit.
Cracks me up that this thread is already up and running.
well why shouldnt it be?
Oh I am not saying it shouldn't, by any means.
Just struck me funny at the time, because I was thinking about starting one if it wasn't.
I am glad that Phil is going go out and try to chase his muse around the stage. It's always so much fun.
Who is in the new version PLF at the Warfield? Word has it.....
Phil
Jimmy
Molo
Chris Robinson
??
chris robinson would suck =\
I hate Robinson as well but would grudgingly accept him if he did no Crowes tunes and only did GD/other covers (although Hard To Handle would be a bit much for me to, um, "handle" . . .)
I hope it`s not true.....I hate Robinson..
we don`t need no rock stars
this is NOR CAL !!
call up David Nelson...
call up Bobby
call up Bill Chaplin
call up Jorma
call the local people ...
well at least Sless is playing
I think Robinson has an awesome voice and he plays a pretty good harmonica. If you havn't seen or heard him within the last 2 years, and/or have never seen the crowes live, you might be surprised.

Well I was down in the Mission yesterday and went looking for this place. It's near the corner of 21st and Mission.I went right up to the front door and saw no sign of the upcoming Avalon Allstars show.In fact the windows were all boarded up and there was graffiti on everything.Needless to say this place isn't even open.I don't know how they are going to have a show there next week.Looks like it hasn't been open in sometime either.I guess we'll see.....
closer and closer are we........
Hamptonlove, waitin' on a plane?
I am jealous, you pig. This summer-The Reckoning!!!!
tix for avalon allstars available to anybody who wants them are being sold at the door for 15 dollars. nobody will miss out.

chris robinson is dynamite
you guys can be secular squares sometimes [ ]
open dem ears and let go of your mind vortices
cr might be very good on a morning dew for 12/19
theme/vibe seems to be "party like it's 1969 ..." (apologies to prince)
PHIL MUST SING MORNING DEW
Im expecting eyes and a lot more upbear tune(see my post in other stuff). Also i think the trend of Aoxomoxoa songs will continue. THAT MEANS WERE GONNA GET STEPHEN. Also i woudlnt be suprised if phil pulled out equinox, a song written for terrapin station that not much is known about. And theres always hope for if i had the world to give

Loving the show themes
I can already feel the immensity of the eternally flowing Eyes that looms on deck for our west coast brethren tonight
...:::the seeds that were silent all burst into bloom and decay:::...
truly
stunning
AMEN to the boys coming back to the Louisville Palace!
The staff is usually not that bad....guess every place has a bad usher tho.
Eyes, Stephen, Wheel, golden road, lovelight, playin, all fit in with the rebirth theme....
y'all have a blast tonight!
peace,
Chris
I wonder if we'll get all the teases we've been getting....dead flowers(?), scarlet, lovelight, NFA. what else was teased?
are we gonna see weir tonight?
Kreutzman?
Mickey?
Dead Flowers teases?? that would be crazeeeeeee
I'm hoping they leave the lineup unaltered although a phat daddy Let It Grow w/Weir would be pretty cool
This band would do Mountains of the Moon in the finest of fashion, the psychedelic crispness of Sless and 'Carboned' out fiddle could do wonderful things with the ~wild wheat waving in the wind~
re-birth show has me thinking about LH's Eleven DNA theory...creation at it's FINEST
(((((((seven faced marble eye transitory dream doll)))))))
special guest for the evening - Merl Saunders
Covers are: I Second That Emotion (Smokey Robinson) or What's Going On (Marvin Gaye)
also: Find a Rainbow, Pennies from Heaven, or Resurrection Rag
Guaranteed to be Smokin'
// hope the dead just let Phil be successful with his new supporting cast //
i like the idea of merl saunders i think that will be a good treat for the westies
I think the idea of Marc Ford coming out and playing with Sless would be sick.
Chris on maracas, Phil pounding the bass, Molo doing his thing and the violin guy shredding it with Sless and Ford.
Goodnight, Irene.
F yeah! Marc & Chris used to do a sick "Deal"!
hey the bears are dancin
phil wheel me deal me
jerry saves
phil invests
billy smacks his wife around
chris bangs his wife
phil if your out there

he's gone
hes.gone to open....YIKES
we're in for it tonight! wonder how long it's gonna take for Jerry to arrive...
Chat down and out as show starts.........OY!
nothing left to do smile smile smile
There are no constants on the Wheel. The only thing that remains same is change! Food for thought.
Is this the first time with lyrics since Jerry passed?
NO
better the chat down than the stream
Man this lineup has a great groove, I just can't get over it.
Box of rain.
wow. song placement is crazy! box!
he's gone, wow, WOW, box o rain, WOW, gooooootttaaaa love phil., i saw get rid of chris, i don't like him
Mellow but sweeeeet! Nice first set touch.
he's gone->
Box of Rain
what a beginning, mellow theme continuing from last night
Was He's Gone the opener?
and who was saying warren who? you gotta be kiddin me, best thing ever happened to phil and friends
yeah, opened with he's gone
this show is gonna be incredible, from what i saw in the setlists last nite, this one is gonna have to be
who knows this song?
there's gonna be a BIG block of dancing fun around the bend, the groundwork is being laid perfectly
Too bad for the LOSERS that complain about Chris...HE'S BACK ...with a NEM original!!
"Tumbleweed in Eden"
Melodic Hubris
gimme a break, chris is no warren. and i just don't like him, what song is this?
>>>>chris is no warren
That's the first smart thing you said!
though I know you meant something else ;)
Melodic Hubris
Golden Road
and did the stream just die - aagggghhhhh!!!!
lost my stream!
Get over Warren please. Warren was the voice of the allmans before phil ever got him. And he's a very new voice in my dead listening. So he was with us for a few short years. Great. He's gone. Let's move forward. Geez.
what did i mean?? and why did it just cut out??
Im down!(the stream)not me.
lost the stream and now it's full. can't get back on. ARRRGGHHH!
daaaaammmmit
boy does this SUCK
stream is in the shitter
yes.......got cut out on chat even before show started and now got cut out of stream.
Sh_t!....time to smoke a cigar.
whats up with it being FULL? first time i ever did this
Row Jimmy
Phil vocals
I was in, it kicked out in Golden Road, now Im out and its full! one of you asscock suckers took my spot! I want it back!
i'm pretty pissed too, since this was first time i ever did this
Double Twist when you hit the air. My link fell. Are they doing Jimmy or is that spec.
btw, get over Warren? Nah, better not, he's still in The Dead.
live365 sux donkey!!!
The show should either be up or not, this Bull sh*t it going in and out.
Well, to pass the time, let's consider the technical marvels that are theoretically occurring to allow us to hear the stream:
Taper (Rob?) has rig set up for audience recording, either with a PC or good old electronic boxes.
Taper has AUX output from rig feeding a cell phone, maybe.
Cell phone allows for feed to be transmitted out of the Warfield to an outside receiver somewhere.
Outside receiver is somehow connected to Live365 for Web broadcast, likely through a PC.
So if any of these pieces has a glitch, the stream may go down until it gets addressed.
well, why does it say station is full?
This is how they extort money out of us
is anyone listening?
I'm so cutoff...what's happening?
free the stream! Free the stream!
coming back now
this blows. can anyone hear it??
It is Row Jimmy.
My link has died twice but it keeps coming back.
when it cut out i closed it to reload and now it says station is currently full, whats up with that??
Oh get down! were back.
I have sound Now!
casey close and reset! the page must refresh in order to cut in. At least w/56k.
ok...was locked out on stream.....tried to get in and again got the 8052 lock out prompt asking me to confirm i am a member and log in......I CLICKED ON 'STOP' ON THE 365 WINDOW AND THEN CLICKED ON 'PLAY" AND IT STREAMED IMEDIATELY. TRY IT.....GOOD LUCK.
now i did that, reloaded it, but says station not available now?
I spoke too soon
Mine died again and now can't get back on. Sounded like Wharf Rat but no vox yet so not sure. Lots of violin, though.
Sorry, I missed one other part:
We use the Internet to get on Live365.
If the Internet hoses up for your personal PC, you may lose the stream and somehow have to re-connect.
In my case, I have lost the stream and the player window, so I'm getting the "player full" message as well.
So for now, I'm screwed.
well that lasted a strong 45 seconds......got locked out of stream again.
combined set list so far?
Cal C
I'm not too tech savy but I hear what you're saying. But why should it take a regular guy like "Taper Rob" to have to pull this off. I'd like to think the Band knows how much people want to hear this run of shows and could have avoided this problem.
WHAT IS "VOX" ?
VOCALS ?
now it's saying the station is unavailable.
can't even press "play"
now I am back up
Not Wharf Rat. Chris singing, but no idea.
In the words of George Harrison..." plug me in!" Hey it worked I am on!
we're baaaack
Set 1:
He's Gone>
Box Of Rain
Tumbleweed In Eden
Row Jimmy
now when i click play, it just goes to a thing that says register now, dam, i think i will just try and listen tommorow, anyone have any suggestions?? where can i download the last 2 nites? and tonites show sometime./
ok.......same crap 8502 prompt locking me out......clicked on stop and then play and gave me the same prompt...did it 3 times in a row and am now back in. major short cut.
DOES VOX MEAN VOCALS ?
Last time I checked, yes.
2souls in communion
The Dolphins
Yes Vox means Vocals
back in - it's a Pig song now, Two Souls In Communion - nice!
ok, i registered and i think i might have it now
Just register. It does not cost anything, but you still go down. New tune comming up sounds like a gospell thing w/Chris on great vocal.
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS, i'm back
The soul is oozing out, nice!!!
Melodic Hubris
thank you everyone, got a first timer here
yeah, Chris Robinson is a real problem - he opens up all of Pig's repertoire to the Q
he's GREAT - and I never liked the Crowes
While were down, on the subject of Warren vs. (insert whoever else) as much as I love Haynes (esp. mule)I don't really care for him in any of the dead projects. Seems as if he's trying to be the leader of a band that really dosent need a leader. my 2 cents. Yesss were back up.
anybody have a yrl for winamp for the stream?
everytime I push play on the live365 page I get a script error!??!! can anyone help at all?!?!
Rich & all,
To be fair, I don't really know exactly who is responsible for the privilege of these streams
(Taperrob's name is implied in a lot of messages about it).
Whoever is doing it would still have to deal with similar technical connectivity as I have described.
I'm just using my limited knowledge of recording & broadcasting to try to help people understand why there are glitches.
One thing I have noticed is that it looks like Live365 will say "broadcast unavailable" if it isn't receiving anything for "broadcast". However, if the Live365 window stays open & you don't hear anything, that probably points to an Internet issue.
Enjoy the show (I managed to get back in; hope everyone else gets back on too!).
classic robinson sound! simply amazing
this was posted on another thread, but I couldn't get it to play in winamp
good luck
http://www.live365.com/play/297545?LID=602-usa&lid=602-usa&SaneID=24.15.42.9-1103330626115&AuthType=NORMAL&VisitCount=3&bitrate=256&now=1103486548836&pid=40460
$15 for 3 mos. of VIP service its a joke not to pay for it. Of course I wouldn't have but it kicked me off, told me it was now a gold station, and after I registered said it wasn't.
Now that Warrens a member of the Dead dont we all think its time for Phil to take his friends in a different direction like bluesy, folky craziness that we are all hearing now!!!
Come summer we'll hear Warren playing with the Dead for now lets enjoy what hes giving us I know I am AND Im a huge Warren fan but this?? c'mon this band is hot!the song selection is blowing my mind and each and everyone is doing their part great!!
Bring em to NY!!!!!!!!!!!
Unbroken Chain
ubc
YESS!
UBC!!!
NICEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE, fuckin phil, i got goosebumps, my fav song
Let Sless loose!
thanks but that link says I have to log in to continue listeing.
anybodu know how to get rid of script error's?!!?
Wish I had a computer in the basement so I could crank this
must be set break time soon
this is probably the closer.
this UBC is so fuckin' sweet
this is sweet, i don't think this is closer yet though, to short a set
I dunno, I was listening downstairs on one computer and turned the stereo off but left the stream open. Back up in my room it had also been running but t hat dudes voice came on telling me to log on again. When I logged off the other ocmputer it fixed it. If you are on a college campus or a dorm it may be crossing something up there.
god i love phil and jimmy, guess i can't complain bout chris to much so far this show, i didn't like the way he sang imagine last nite though, ok, last time i shit on him tonite
it's clocking in at just over an hour now. so who knows.
Phil and Jimmy definetly share something that I think Phil and Garcia did too.
And we're holding you to the "no shitting on CR"
friday killed, last night a lil slow but jimmy's ragin'
dam i missed a bunch then
That was nice. Time for bed - have to shovel the driveway bright and early so 4am is out of the question. Will catch the rest tomorrow. Enjoy all!
good call with the set break
I'm with you Ted
anyone on east coast here??
So if that's the first set, here's what it looked like:
"PLE" (Phil Lesh Experience)
12/19/04, Warfield Theater, SF CA
He's Gone
Box Of Rain
Golden Road
Row Jimmy
Tumbleweed In Eden
Two Souls In Communion
Unbroken Chain
Comments/corrections?
So... Break Time?
I didn't even realize "Apple Orchard" even sang during the first set. Loved to hear the giant nerd belt out his tunes.
will show come back up then?? i got no sound rite now
Break Time?
seemed like a short first set to me
Cal C -
The Dolphins was in there. I believe by Tim Buckley
Just like the last couple of nights... we seem to get "real" dead air on the break.
How long break 15 min.?
so you got no sound either rite now??
here's what I got
Set 1:
He's Gone>
Box Of Rain
Tumbleweed In Eden
Row Jimmy
???? (missed because of stream)>
The Stranger (Two Souls In Communion)
Unbroken Chain
OK, for the uninitiated:
1) First set ends, feed from the Warfield cuts out
2) Eventually another feed opens on Live365, usually the show that was playing before the stream started, in this case, last night 12/18/04
3) At some arbitrary time, the feed for the show in #2 stops, and the Warfield feed starts again with audience noise until second set starts
Time to attend to those biological needs.
"PLE" (Phil Lesh Experience)
12/19/04, Warfield Theater, SF CA
He's Gone
Box Of Rain
Tumbleweed In Eden
Golden Road
Row Jimmy
Two Souls In Communion
Unbroken Chain
Comments/corrections?
well, could someone let me know when they hear something so i know if i'm on the rite track? could im me at casedogg99
breaks have been long. 45 min if I remember right
Feed me
45 minute break, holy shit, i gotta get up at 6:30, its 1:10 where i'm at now, anyone else on east coast? in PA
friday's set 2 went on forever
last night's break was a little long--don't think the break will be as long tonight
I'm really glad I can hear this show tonight.
OK, take two on the "alleged" first set:
"PLE" (Phil Lesh Experience)
12/19/04, Warfield Theater, SF CA
He's Gone
Box Of Rain
Golden Road
Tumbleweed In Eden (New Earth Mud)
Row Jimmy
The Dolphins (Tim Buckley tune)
Two Souls In Communion
Unbroken Chain
I had no stream between "Golden Road" & "UBC", so I'm relying on you guys.
isn't everyone here on the east coast? if we were on the left coast, we'd be at the warfield.
Trying to get my head around the whole "three act" thing. Any one get the theme of tonight so far? The Wheel is the card for the third night. I believe the first two songs were a reprisal on the theme of last night. What was the first section of tunes from the first set last night? I had to work. anyway... What goes around comes around... that's the way it goes down.
TRUE

1:14 in PA ... yep ..no work, just play Phil all day......
Encore ... "You Wish You Were Here..."
hey Colt some places in Northen California are so far from the "city" we may as well be on the East Coast!, but we are in the right time zone.
I'd crawl from Eureka....
I just moved from Tahoe back to New England. Man, I've made some bad timing mistakes.
Phil is stil better than any other station, except maybe "red rooster" playing on DSO radio. Although a pretty simple song that i thought was of the road was played on Radio Vietnam: "Chip Dockery - King of the Trail [1:37] - In Country: Folk Songs"..
anyone get any sound yet:?????
well, well well, i finally made it...even on dial up...we're talkin 31k here...but i can even listen to the stream...can't post and listen at the same time...can't believe i was there the first nite, and then flew to florida on saturday...family and Jam Cruise...anybody going on jam cruise?

Does anyone hear crowd noise at all or just last night?

i just hear last nite
will 2nd set of tonite just come on sometime?
Lonesome Valley
Fairfield Four
(O Brother, Where Art Thou?)
You got to go to the lonesome valley
You got to go there by yourself
Nobody else can go for you
You got to go there by yourself
Oh, you got to ask the lords forgiveness
Nobody else can ask him for you
You got to go to the lonesome valley
You got to go there by yourself
Nobody else, nobody else can go for you
You got to go there by yourself
WHAT IS STREAMING RIGHT NOW ?
what happened to the stream?..... that was the coolest thing last night...real demonstration of a virtual interactive community.... the possibilities of the internet expanding the group mind... blah, blah, blah... it was like we were there in the balcony at the Warfield chitchatting with our friends trying to guess the next song... even though we're hundreds even thousands of miles apart. SURREAL!
See my other post, but:
Last night's stream going away means the live Warfield stream is coming back soon.
so will tonite come on soon??
Been constantly get locked out on the stream. Connects for about 1 minute and then goes in to 8502 mode. Have also not been able to get on the chat since before show started. You guys also having a problem with the chat as well as stream?
Hew now Casey... We are live and direct again. BTW ED the sound is more like being in the Coat Check room or the Men's room..., but it is still way f%$#'n cool!!!!!! T.L.E.O!

I do love the Dead-like sound of this band on some tunes kind of 80's like and at other times 60-70's like. This Eclectic mix of musicians is a big plus and great credit to phil for his insight.
this here may be the best "part of time" all weekend !

Thank you TAPER ROB and Live365 !!!!
There were some damn lucky folks in SF this weekend, I tell you what.
To anyone who helped out with the streaming of the shows, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!
That was awesome, truly remarkable. Thank you Phil, Taperrob, and all who were in chat this weekend, it rocked. Wish I could have been there. I'm busting ass for mardi gras.
The logo for the run was three tarot cards: 1. The Fool 2. Death 3. The Wheel Of Fortune. On a three card read; 1.past 2.present 3.future. Go figure 1.Fri 2.Sat 3.Sun... The only constant on The Wheel Of Fortune is change. Peace to all and this webcast was a great thing thanks to all/any persons envolved with getting up for all of us to share in Phil's Three Act trip. I for one will never think the songs and the order in which phil sets them up are random any longer. He was "preforming" somthing more then just a three night run of concerts here... I just wish I knew what is was all about... The protaonist? On another note The David Nelson Band w/Barry Sless will be playin' on NYE at The Ace In The Hole Pub in Sebastopol Ca. Get on the bus for some High Adventure.
Taper Rob...this is pure genius! Many thanks... and thanks to everyone "in the ZONE" tonight...
genius........? WE call this shit MAGIC.....thats what PHIL does .......
thanks ROB, im already sharin this
Just got back in from the show...I don't think I'll ever sleep again!! Can't possibly review it now - in fact, there's nothing I can possibly say...except...AHHHHhhhhhh!!!!!!!.............
Dream setlist, incredible musicianship, incredible vibes...we are totally blessed for having the music of Phil Lesh and all these other fine musicians.

We Bid You Goodnight (vocals by Phil, Chris, Gloria, Jackie & Tim)
Just got home from the show. Nice dreamy ride home through the fog after an incredible few nights!
What Phil did as an artist these last 3 nights was truly amazing! We got a 3 night celebration of LIFE through his music. I did the stream the first night and was there for the next two shows. I will admit I was a bit hestitant about Chris' vocals, even though I'm a Crowes fan, while I listened to the stream Friday night. However being at the show was a whole different story. The entire band was incredible. Much better than any show I saw on the 2004 Dead tour (Winter Jam, Shoreline, Marysville, Portland, Gorge) and probably the best Phil & Friends shows I've ever seen. Well not probably, for me these were the best P&F shows I've ever seen. Those bitching about Warren not being there, most likely were not at the shows themselves. This band is hot and I'm hoping they are all on board for Mardi Gras.
Thanks Phil for sharing this celebration of Life with us!
Lovelight absolutely smoked my speakers last night! EVERYONE in chat room was glowing with glee. Thanks for a great time everyone in chat this weekend and to taperrob and the band.
amen!
happy happy joy joy
my helmet is workin perfectly!
thank you thank you thank you
i feel better now, better than james brown!
Is it posibble the Dolphins was the Fred Neil(the guy who wrote Everyones Talkin) song that was covered by Beth Orton a few years back. Or was it Tim Buckley. Could someone double check thanks and may every one have a great Holiday Season and Healthy & Happy New Year with more PHIL and less DEAD.
P.S. The Philzone folks are tops thank you all!
The Youngbloods (Jesse Colin Young) did it with a pretty jam circa '69-'70. Ride the Wind would be a nice choice for the PLO.
i think it might originally be a Fred Neil song. I just always knew the song from Tim Buckley's version.
"Ride the Wind" would be a stunning choice for the PLO (betcha Abbas does it better than Arafat ).
I love Tim Buckley's "Dolphins".
Back on topic, I'm so envious of all the lucky zoners catchin' these shows. Thanks for all the great reviews, the live streams and, most of all, mad props to the tapers.
Gettin the shows up on E-tree just shortly after the encore is so fuckin' bitchin'.
Sure lets you be a better armchair critic.
It is a Fred Neil song. He even had books and projects about dolphins. I knew it from the Youngbloods. It was on Ride The Wind listed as 'The Dolphin.' Interestingly enough, they are not included in the list of covers of Neil songs below. I think I've heard Chris do it before with NEM, solo, or one of his offshoots.

why does live 365 not work all i get is a reb bar going back and forth
Spacement, you hit the nail right on the head. Even this morning I am still trying to figure out what exactly happened last night. That foggy Bay Bridge drive was really surreal. That was by far the most intense musical experience I have ever witnessed first hand. That whole ride after Lovelight was a doosie.
I'd like to really give a good assessment of exactly what happened, but even right now, I'm still pretty speechless.
I have to say the band is completely amazing. This could be the band that he keeps for a while. I'll say it again. Molo, Phil, and Jimmy really souded like a power trio. With several other incredible musicians filling it out. Sless and Molitz blew me away. The only two things I things I noticed were out of placed were, at the beginning of Golden Road, Molitz should've been nailing the B-3, but didn't come in til the song was already going, and several times CR either kept singing when he wasn't supposed to or didn't come in when he was supposed to. It is his birthday, so I should cut the guy a little slack.
All in all, it was pretty much the most amazing show I've ever seen. Or, rather the most amazing run I've ever seen.
The Dolphins is a Fred Neil tune. Richie Havens does a kick ass version of it.
Simply put...The best Phil shows I've seen!! Not much else I can say...
Hey C K,
Interestingly enough, they played Wish you were here over the house system directly after the show as everyone was leaving. Good call.
just back from shows and still blown away...agreed that these were some of the best phil shows ever, despite CRs numerous fuckups (the eleven, franklin's, to name a couple)...phil had the grand sense to redo saturday's CR imagine fiasco (did CR ever hear the song before?) with the magnificent JGB singers on sunday...IMHO, phil shouold dump CR as fast as he can and bring on the JGB ladies on board...they have more soul in their lipstick than CR has in his whole bloused body....
Sundays show made something happen that i never thought would happen again. I can not express how lucky I feel to have been able to go to this show.
you folks bashing on CR are so clueless
open your damn mind and feel the soul that man
breathes with every word
More props to CR. I thought he was a nice addition. I had no issues with the few missteps. He did a great job on the Pigpen tunes.
That band came strong. Every night.
Being a HUGE fan of the PLQ, I showed up on Friday at the Warfield skeptical that Phil could ever put together as good a band as he once had. But after hearing them play for 3 nights - I can honestly say that this band might even be better than PLQ (I never thought I'd be saying that.)
I didn't really have a favorable opinion of Chris after the 1st set on Fri, but he grew on me big time, and by Sunday I was (and am) a HUGE fan - I thought he did an unbelievable job. I've also never seen so many happy musicians playing on stage together creating magic, and they obviously knew it too - when's the last time Phil played to 1:30am at the Warfield? Unbelievable and an A+ weekend. I'm still feeling goose bumps right now.....
Couldn't agree more. This band had something that I've found often lacking in PLQ and the "new" Dead since Jerry died. They mixed multiple genres of music effortlessly. They transitioned well between jams and ballads. Each player played his/her heart out and also notably contributed to the greater whole. No one was selfish. No one upstaged the other. And each had something unique to give. The RRE fiddle player was awesome, as was the Particle dude, as was CR, as were Jackie and Gloria and the horns. And Jimmy and Molo were at the top of their game. Have you ever seen Jimmy Herring smile that much on stage? This band ROCKS! Phil, you've done it again.
after listening to the shows, CR isn't haf as bad as I thought....seeing him stumble through the telepromptered lyrics on several songs was didheartening from the front row of the Warfield's pit....on the CD, he don't sound too bad at all...this band is the best I've seen since the real deal...
Tonights show rocked..Phil was movin around more than last nite.
Jimmy was playin hard..Particle dude tweeked the sound that one jam..Barry as usual solid..but thae one solo of his, forgot which song, Phil was lookind over at him diggin it..(Maybe it was eleven.?)
Molo worked his ass off..
I did too actually..
so am gunna abort this review and pick up again later..
Good show tonight..Got to pretty much meet most of the Cali Zoners I had not already met..and a few out of staters..
If I was tryin to rate shows I'd g0..
Sat then Sun then Fri..
Okay, another thread??
I'll just post what was in the last one.
Would you like me to copy all the other post over?
Okay, here it is.

Nancy, can you describe what was going on inside the Warfield during the wild 'Elevator' tune? Were people freaking out?
Why did I start this thread..??????????..
people were freaking out ALL NIGHT LONG!
it was a freaking incredible show...
loved meeting all the zoners too.
let's do IT again sometime.
Thanx G.dad..........tell me more...about the shows....and the rest.
And to all ........lets get some more reviews in here.
i listened to the show last nite and it was incredible. i wish i was there dancing with G.dad.
Phil played till nearly 2 in the morning, I am so exhausted! What a great night and smoking hot music!
John Molo did indeed work his ass off, how does he do that? Gloria and Jackie sweet as always. Sang along on more of the Dead tunes and less of the Jerry, not present during Comes A Time, which seemed to come out of no where. Chris does a nice job with those Pigpen and Jerry tunes, I hope he's sticking around for more shows. Jimmy and Barry we're nuts last night trading off liks forever.
I suppose Elevator might be a Particle song? Looked like Steve was calling the shots and the band was grooving big time. Then again, they grooved all night.
And let's talk about Phil. He dropped in everywhere with those big bass bombs. He took the music on the journey that never ends. Thank you Phil for doing what you do.
The horns showed up in the balcony, couldn't see them cuase I was directly underneath. Glad to have that sound in the music. And those guys from RRE, Tim and John cut it up just as hot as Barry and Jimmy.
I am so tired but happy to have my attitude adjusted.
Thanks to everyone for making such great music.
So many people were dancing all night Sunday.
Hope that takes me through till February.
I'm listening to the stream right now... HOLY SHIT! This Slipknot is amazing!!!!!!
holy smokes..
should we ever cease to be amazed at Phils ability to raise the bar up into the heavens only to drop yet another rocket booster into our conciousness and realm of GD flow??!
The power of this insanely deep run was surely fealt by heads far and wide. I'm hopeful that this band gets a chance to ~tap it~ for a good long while
WELL DONE PHIL&FRIENDS...ONCE AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

New York needs some California vibes right about now
when will these shows be available to download?
Parts of 12-17 and 12-19 are already available thanks to BAMBOOLI! I downloaded the 17th bits and listened on the way to work today. The sound is iffy, and I didn't get the stream so I don't know if that's what it sounded like live on the net. The band, though, is super hot and I love having something. How about better quality complete shows? Anyone?
the show from last night wont open on the live 365
I rate the shows like this:
Sunday, Friday, Saturday
did anybody pick up the t-shirt for these shows??
If so, please post a picture of it, i am dying to see these tarot cards...
phil once again proves he is a composer...not just your average musician...
Is there downloads that are not torrents?
(firewall blocks me from torrents, and streaming aud.)
Taperrob or anybody: what can you tell us about all these 'new' tunes, I recognized some Band, floyd, Crowes, but others escape me. thanks
can someone link to a download/stream?
www.philzone.org sends me to the forums for some reason now :o
Holy Shit People!!
The show on Sunday was the real thing. Every bit as deep as the days when Jerry was alive. Seriously! I can not begin to describe how good that show was. I honestly thought it would never happen again. I am glad I was wrong. Best light show I have ever seen at the Warfield also.
Elevator is a Particle original...
That show was really a dissapointment. I was with 12 people and we thought it sucked. Phil sounded terrible. Oh well, maybe next time
to each his own. just in case you're not joking jon, whatever you're looking for, I do hope you find it, cause most of us found it last night. and it was glorious.
It must've felt wierd being the only 13 people not freaking out.
What a waste of 13 tickets.
Even if I was serious (which I was not) I would still be entitled to my opinion...right? However, I really did think the show was great and very inspired. All of us had a amazing time. I think CR brought great energy to the show and IO hope the line-up continues to change. Always makes for an unexpected and fun time.
The whole weekend was an inspiration. Chris Robinson did a great job, considering that he was unfamiliar with the lyrics. I'll write more about my experience when I get home later.
Yeah..The Energy from stage the entire run was amazing especially so last (Sunday) night...
Posting from businees office at Parc 55..a block from Warfield..
Barting under bay to Oakland to catch flight in an hour..
LastLeafFallen...Here you go man
and all the Zoners not at shows...and those listening to Taperrob's streams
What is most important is family and health..
And appreciating what we have..
It's all a dream we dreamed one afternoon a long time ago..
OK, here goes with my 2 cents:
First - We heard Friday set 2 and all Saturday on the stream. Thank you thank you thank you Taper Rob!!! Also heard much of Friday from the BT download (I like Sless's leads on Shakedown a lot). Hearing what we heard, and following the discussion of the 3 themes, we had a pretty good idea how the 3rd show would play out thematically (rebirth, renewal, wheel of life) and we predicted many of the song choices.
Second - Had seats in Row E, Bal4 (about 2/3 way stage left). I've had better seats, but I don't think I ever heard better sound at the Warfield. Surprised no one has commented on this. I could clearly hear everybody, and Phil rocked the place - sharp attack and chest-thumping volume. No wonder the aud recording I have from Friday sounds good - the house sound was fabulous. I'd forgotten how small the Warfield is. I could see everyone very well (though I couldn't always see Sless's fingers when he turned toward Phil). Very, very, very mellow crowd. Not lacking in energy, just the opposite, but just a very pleasant crowd. I don't think I saw a single cigarette smoked, almost no one talked during the music in a way that infringed on my enjoyment, lots of friendly folks nearby. Really especially nice concert experience from that perspective. Good Deadheads!
Third - The performance! This ranks right up there with the best Phil shows I've seen. In fact, my wife and I agree, it's one of the top concerts we've seen in the last 15 years. Not always the cleanest in terms of song execution, but the jamming, energy, song selection, overall show - just fantastic. Not sure I'm up to a song-by-song breakdown (you can all hear the recordings and make up your own mind) but the Phil-Molo-Jimmy trio is on fire, and I am instantly and completely a Sless fan. As a quintet with Molitz, they were amazingly solid (only their 3rd show together!) with focused, interesting, and diverse improvs. To pick one: Dark Star! With Sless on steel that jam was a thing of beauty. Sublime. And the Particle jam led by Molitz was a blast. Very techno rhythmically, driven, and I mean DRIVEN by Molo. He was a machine! Did I mention Molo was awesome?! My wife titled it "The Matrix Jam" since it reminded her of the soundtrack music from the Matrix movies. Really a peak for crowd energy (among many, many peaks!).
Fourth - CR. A controversial subject, I know. Gotta give the guy credit for taking on Two Souls and Comes A Time. Ballsy! I think he did a creditable job on the ballads, and he's fine with me on his own songs, but I think he had a hard time singing Dead songs with Phil. For example, Lovelight, which should have been a blues showcase for him, had no vocal melody - CR basically shouted the words. Phil did egg him on for a little rap, which was good. Overall though, I think "The Quintet" had better vocals. My one real criticism of the night. Couple side notes: It was fun seeing Kate Hudson looking down at the crazy crowd from the side balcony. Looked like she was describing the intense floor scene to someone on a cell phone. Also, I liked the "aw, shucks" look CR gave Phil when he came in at the wrong time during Wheel.
Fifth (running out of time/energy here - gotta wind this down) - RRE guys. Liked 'em. Tasteful additions to the jams. Would like to see them in their own element sometime.
Sixth - Horns. Where were they? Enjoyed the little bit they played at the end last night. Liked the addition they made to Shakedown on Friday. Gotta hand it to Phil the arranger!
I could go on, but... All in all a truly exceptional concert. Kinda glad I heard Saturday at home because we were fresh and had lots of energy for the long night. Taken as a whole, the 3 days were quite a creative outburst from Phil. How lucky are we?! Thanks to the tapers and internet people who make it possible for all of us to hear this fine music. Peace.
DH
Just wanted to humbly thank taper rob for allowing me to be at the show without being there. My show got screwed up. Used to be at ever phil show till this one. So it's very special to me. Being a front row junkie, well, i can see everything happening while i heard your recording. thank you so much.
Much love
Pixy/Nicky
To TaperRob,
Are you producing the live 365 phil / station?
Just awesome, thanks!
I clicked on "buy CD", but thats not apparently a hotlink. How can I get a CD copy, or download 12 / 19 set 2 , for keeps? Or is it available to hear anytime in the future? How does the "trader" section work?
Thanks,
Matt
people...heavy heavy heavy. The Big Picture is that Phil remembers and conjures, opens himself up to, the special power of not just Dead Music, but of Music. Can't let ego get in the way of that, or someone else's but your own, perhaps (read: bobby - not a bobby bash, though)! The immeasurable, intangible - whatever the fuck you want to call it - connection of music and emotions, for all extents and purposes a purely human thing, was the number one goal last night, all 3 nights. Guessing what song goes where, what song will be played, who should have played, was pointless and missing the point. Phil had his point, wrote it himself and placed his ponderings about The Wheel on stage for us to experience with him. Using the primordial waves of sound and soul music to try to recreate the greyarea, a song suite about the answerless Life questions. Years down the line now, for Phil, for all of us, from wherever you started this journey with them, the most important artifacts we all should take from this trip were laid out these last 3 nights. A decade removed from losing their Magic Spark, trying to remember/re-process what the lessons and gifts were, how important it is to keep them as the #1 guiding force.
You don't go to a show, or shouldn't anyways, to remember the setlist song for song, just to be able to regurgitate it to everyone you know. Or use it for any kind of personal ego gain whatsoever. This music should be here to remind you why we need the Light, why you shouldn't take the Dark for granted. Why its ok to not know things. And to know what to expect if you do open up that Door. It should humble you when you are too high, and pull you up when you are too low. Knowing who has the good mushrooms, who needs to take a shower, all just parts of the outlying experience, and will ever be part of the experience. But each and everyone of us, if we love this band, and know what the music can really mean, should see and take to heart what transpired over the course of this weekend.
What would have Jerry done to this suite (WWJerD?), is Trey deeper than Warren, doesn't truly matter, because Phil and this band this weekend tapped into that absolute point that is independent of what road you were on to get there. They found another catalyst and conduit, and arrived at the same place Jerry, Bobby, Philly, Billy, Keith, Donna, Mickey, Brent, Pig and Vince, led them towards so many times, at one time or another.
I was going to add some critiques of not just what I liked, but what I didn’t like, but I’m fighting that urge and just know that, for all of us that reaaally need this music, as soothing balm for your mind/heart/soul, which is most of us I assume, it provided, and helped right my course a bit, reminded me what paths could be taken at this point of life. It was EXACTLY what I want and need from music. I wasn’t on any psychedelics, just smoked a hit or two of weed, the rest coming from the constant marijuana cloud that persisted at head level. The music definitely transcended the need for drugs, to something everyone could take something from. I’m glad that the scene is here and that you were all there to get what you needed filled. Hey, feels like I’m sermonizing, but, well, it was a sermon this weekend, as others have said, and i'm real glad that this music can make me feel and think this way.
ok, cant resist...some highpoints for me: 2 souls in communion, Golden Road (goddamn!), Row Jimmy, He's Gone, Box Of Rain, Imagine (or anytime Jackie and Gloria sang), Turn On Your Lovelight (again, goddamn!), Unbroken Chain, Comes A Time, the Wheel (and the way Phil led into it, with all the importance and knowledge of its weight in the night), and of course, We Bid You Goodnight.
oh yeah...pedal steel, aaalways good, agreed, Sless is More...Particle Dude, you got a head about you! If you can do Stevie wonder funk, you are allllright!
Jimmy did a solo during Lovelight that may have been the single hottest guitar solo I have ever heard. Then he did another one during The Particle Song. We are talking SHREDDING.
The Dolphins...a Fred Neil tune that I am familiar with thru Tim Buckley. What a nice surprise that was. Robinson did it justice.
It wasn't perfect...there were rough spots. Funnily enough, some of the dead standards didn't go too smooth....thinking of eyes here....maybe tough for Jimmy and Phil to adjust to Molo time after a summer with the dead. All that was minor, though. I don't think anyone in the room doubted that they were witnessing something tremendous and important.
The energy on that stage was just insane.
I agree with BS! (has a funny ring to it )
I'm nuts for P&F, can't wait for more insanity. Thank you PHIL AND FRIENDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Warning...criticism inside...don't get your panties in a wad if you disagree it's just one persons opinion.
I left last nights show with a bad taste in my mouth for a couple reasons which I'll soon explain. The music was phenomenal....all of the intruments really seemed to be flowing. I really could have done without "Particle Dude Song" but in all fairness most of the crowd seemed really into it, so perhaps I was in the minority.
A couple of other issues I had:
The vocals were by far the worst of the three nights. It wasn't just a flub here and a flub there, the whole second set was full of miscues. And it was tough listening to such intense beautiful music and be so distracted with these constant goofs. I don't blame them...lord knows I can't sing or keep time...I'm just saying..it could have been better and it was much better the first two nights.
I thought eyes was beautiful but CR and Phil doing a duet nearly killed me.
The second issue I had was that this show lacked the diversity of the first two shows. I liked the other shows because we got such a variety of music from bluegrass to gospel to funk to rock and roll to trance to....but the second set almost seemed strictly dead. Not that its a bad thing...I just enjoyed the mixing of sounds and the new music of the first two nights.
I also believe that they should stop playing DS and st stephen at every run but again that's just me. They can do whatever the hell they want. (And they will ;) )
But with all that said it was still a great night and I still danced my balls off. An amazing three day run that will never happen again I imagine (imagine twice in two nights....odd)
aarrrh...my...panties!!!
always better to fly commando around here BS, much safer...
>>>I still danced my balls off.
I just ordered some extras if you left yours at the Warfield.
where you running to Zang, you forgot to say hello.
thank for the heads-up nancy. my dear mom used to say underwear is good hygiene, but she has no idea what she's talking about. i'll always tell her, "Mom! you gotta try freeballin'! it kicks ass!"
freeballin 3chrds! no more BS, cool. welcome on board.
Phil does not have the greatest vocal time in the world. It seems to be pretty difficult to sing a duet with him in all fairness to CR
I ran home so I could get five hours of sleep before work. Ended up fighting a swarm of argentinian ants that had invaded my bathroon. Turns out they like to trip on robutussin.
>>>>aarrrh...my...panties!!!
LMAO!
ants don't know that that shit makes you puke and fucks with your equilibrium...stupid creatures....thanks for the greet nancy. long time lurker, first time blah blah, you know the speil....BS is probably hard to take seriously, yes...its my intials for real though. another kind suggestion about the show...sure did miss the "woah oh-woahohhhh" for 2 souls. Jackie and Gloria were at the show, no?
Hey I'm a BS too!!!! I've even got a degree in it....was my maiden initials and my married initials!!! HERE'S TO MORE BS ON THE ZONE
WELCOME
>>>I rate the shows like this: Sunday, Friday, Saturday
Funny...I rate them like this: Saturday, Friday, Sunday.
And I would rate them
Saturday
Sunday
Friday
I agree Zang, the vocals on Sunday left my head in reverb, but it may of been my location. I still liked Sunday the best though
just listened to friday...mmm mmm good.
I liked the first two shows. They were good solid shows. Parts of both were inspired parts of both struggled but as whole shows at points they both had trouble keeping my attention, my mind wondered I had to sit, they also seemed to lose the crowd also at times. Look around and you saw lots of people looking trying to find the groove again. Now Sunday is a different story! The show sunday night was as inspired of a perfomance as I have seen in along time. The first two nights they seemed to struggle towards perfection as one of there goals. Sunday Was not perfect. But I don,t think that is what they had in mind. Sunday was pure magic and emotion. All the other stuff that made Sunday what it was to me just came along for the ride. Inspiered music is what I go to see live shows for. and sunday really deliverd the goods. I have seen so many shows at this point in my life that there are those that seem to take you home. When the music, the crowd, and the band take you to that special place that makes you say " ive been here before this place feels like HOME!!"Sort of like that place you go on a great acid trip, not every one just the great ones. It takes a lot of variables to go HOME that way and they were all in place for me on Sunday. There have been a few Q shows that did this, many GD shows did it, that is where I learned the way home, Even a Santana Show in Vail w/ Phish. (don't remember the phish set much other than those young boys jumping on trampolines and thinking what fools I guess thats just my closed mindedness) That feeling is what keeps me coming back and how great it feels when it finds you. Sorry I don't know how to make paragraphs while typing on my computer it all just runs together. Sunday did it!!!!! Thanks to all that helped that band do what they did,Thanks to Phil for inviting us into his heart and soul and thanks to the band that took us into Phils heart. See you all at Mardi Gras PEACE TO ALL David
good call to those that precited wheel, eyes, box etc. wish i could have been there- it sounds absolutely magical!
Still basking in the afterglow of Sunday. It's been a dozen years or more since I've felt this way...with a smirky wry little perma-grin that just won't go away. I feel privileged.
i'm guessing that the reason that so many people liked these shows is that with the addition of sless and the chicks that it sounded alot more like the dead than plq.....i have listened to the stream and whILE IT IS GOOD....I FOUND MYSELF REALLY ASKING WHERE IS THE ROCK?!and the answer is surely in ashville with warren......so flame on if u must......i'm not dissing phil.....giant kudos for reinvention but not really all that rocking....very meandering.....and not that meandering isnt cool......but not alot of cohesion....and i know, i know it's the first shows....i'm just accustomed to alot more rock from my plq......anydamnway its a helluva lot better than the dead with boby, the drummers and ratdog keyboard dude.....by the way.....who reallky likes chris robinson
Actually, I liked it for just the opposite. It sounded way more like the Q than the Dead as they always do. That's precisely the reason I like Phil's band more than the "Dead". They just sound more like the Dead should sound. The fact is "The Dead" in their current state do very little for me. The addition of Warren Haynes to the mix was a small salvation for them. Even with Warren, their music these days does little for me. Bobby singing Althea? Please!
I will continue to follow whatever Phil's doing. He is the only one of the 4 who seems to know how to harness the spirit of the Grateful Dead (with the possible exception of Billy, and he certainly couldn't do it without the others).
Amen Kamloops
anyone who says it wasnt rocking wasnt there..they tore the place down!..i danced between Jill lesh, and candice brightman on sunday..they were rockin..the sound guy had some problems with the vocals on fri and sat..they were corrected during sundays sound check, which is why the doors opened late...this past weekend was hands down the freshest and best sounding incarnation of any dead music since 1991...
remember its more likely the audience member thats "off" when one is critical then it is the band that is off!!!!!!!
I've been reading these dicussion threads for a couple of years now and I love reading them. This is my very first post. I am really getting tired of the Bobby slams... it took ALL of the members to create the magic that was the Grateful Dead and I am very grateful that ALL of them continue to do so in one form or another. Whether it's PLQ, Ratdog, the Dead, or whatever...I am eternally grateful to be able to still take part in the magic occasionally after all of these years. Anyway, didn't want my first to be negative but a couple of posts just rubbed me the wrong way. I really appreciate the reviews this weekend and the pictures. You do an amazing job Taper Rob!
or you could say it was niether like the Q or GD or Dead or other 1's, but just a good band as it is. see these shows as their own. or just Phil Lesh doing really good as a "solo" artist. would be cool if the incarnatioins of the spinoff bands went their own way away from any formulaic, tried-and-true "Dead" sound. '03 Dead started doing this before sexy sista Joan got knocked-up, by who knows who....hey devilsick, the show may not have translated well over the stream, but if you were in there, you might have felt a bit different about what direction was taken. and although novel, i can get Over the Hills and Far away from some other avenue besides the Dead w/ Warren. I'm thinking since there were themes to these shows, divying up hard rockers equally as ballads wasn't the top priority. And in fact, it seemed that there were supposed to be 3 distinct points in the crests and valleys being those 3 nights. Check out Golden Road, This Wheel's on Fire, Rider, GDTRFB, though...all hoppin'. Not harping on your issues with the shows, just trying to shed more insight on some shows that i'm feeling will command a shitload of respect as time goes on. i was thinking, man, would be sweet to get a DVD of the show, but that might have cheapened the whole thing, and missed the point of the message. But, it would be nice for others not at the show to maybe witness as much as they could of it, and for the ones inside to relive it.
>>was my maiden initials and my married >>initials!!! HERE'S TO MORE BS ON THE ZONE
you must really love the BS!! Cheers to more BS, then!!
The Unbroken Chain from Sunday was amazing, outstanding and then some.
So was the rest of the show, but that song really smoked and moved.
<<<Jimmy did a solo during Lovelight that may have been the single hottest guitar solo I have ever heard. Then he did another one during The Particle Song. We are talking SHREDDING.
BOTB, you ain't joking about those. He was so hot it wasn't funny.
Will Jimmy stay on?
Back on board..Nice reviews people...
Some generalized rememberances...
Act 1..all about You..helpin and taklin care of others..
Act 2..all about Me..keepin oneself going..and not fallin into pits..
Act 3..all about Us..Everybody workin together to make things better..
The twice played Dark Star and Imagine....still got me thinking...
Really looking forward to hearing these shows again.
one..the evil dark imagine...the other...coming out of the clouds imagine.
>>I've been reading these dicussion threads for >>a couple of years now and I love reading them. >>This is my very first post. I am really >>getting tired of the Bobby slams...
hey Brian, just realized you may have been talking about me in my post. Let me clarify that i meant no ill-will towards the man. In fact, one of my favorite memories was of Ratdog at the Wiltern in L.A. back in Dec. '95. Good, emotive stuff. All's i meant is that Bobby, and Phil too, are clashing egos, from what reports are saying. Phil is just as guilty. I'm sure many will argue who is justified or not. But would be nice to see the boys sublimate the big-heads and let the Guiding Force (no, not the Guiding Light) help make deciscions for them. That force was evident this weekend, just like it was at the Wiltern in '95 (although, i have to admit, i was rrrreally blown away by last weekend.) Or when Bobby sang Blackbird for Jerry at Hampton on 08/09/95(i think the version i have is from there...you can here the frailty in Bobby's voice at points).
I hate the bob-bashing as well, though both sides make good points about both men. I for one couldn't give a fuck about Phil's goat voice singing. Or at least, until last weekend, where he seems to have found the comfortable range of folky, emotive, and simple. No "As we walked down to Fenn-nare-reee-YYAaaOOooOWW". I think people align themselves with one or the other depending on how they view themselves. People who tend to lean towards the intellectual (based on the fact that they think they are ones themselves), too-smart-for-their-and-your-own-good kind of people, and the ones that love stats, like Phil. Almost a superiority thing, cuz Bobby has historically been the outhouse toilet that everyone shits on. Those who root for the underdog, aren't too offended by or overlook short-shorts, like the "star" power, and chicks, basically like Bobby. I like them, and dislike them both the same. It's the band they were in as a whole that i root for or tear-down, becuase that's the real vehicle for the whole thing. ok, Jerry may have been the best navigator, though. But of course they all know that.
there...there's the requisite "Phil Vs. Bobby" post that's in every thread. If/when this comes up again, i'm just gonna copy this for my reply.
PLEASE PHIL, make these shows available from the soundboard. my soul needs them as food!
spiritual bliss
new lands
thank you, we all owe you a debt that we can never re-pay
cheers-H

Wow, just started downloading the soundboards....thank you Phil.
The audience tapes circulating (Thank you Rob R & Ian Stone) are some of the best I've ever heard, maybe in part because the sound at the Warfield was simply stellar everywhere, no bad seats.
Spent friday & Sunday on the floor next to the coolest people (Hi to Katherine & Dan & Catharine & Steve), Saturday about 2/3 up right on balcony.
The Sunday show had the most emotion....amazing stuff all through....I find myself captivated by Tumbleweed in Eden at this moment...
...get this show (get all three).
I second the thoughts of many wiser folks who posted above, in that Phil (and his friends) have dialed it in in these shows. Whatever "it" is, they found it...the Winter Solistice shows of 2004 will never be forgotten.
I think Phil's comments about releasing the soundboards are telling: "12.31: Hi folks; The recent Warfield shows were such a compelling experience for me that I’d like to share them with you."
happy 2005, everybody!
ok, admit i haven't read this whole thread...but nany nany poo poo, i'm still gonna post
been absorbing this show over the last few days (just mastered the bit torrent thang)...
wow!!! I sure the hell love the "Q" and there are certain songs that in heart now are "owned" by Warren, but...
can I say, wow!
There are some incredibly tasty moments in this performance. Elevator got me jammin' in me little jetta when i first heard it; particle is on my so-so list, but bring it to some different folks with a different "eye" and that was fun as heck!
neat franklin's...and molo f*in RIPS into fade away...crank that first minute or two on a good stereo and your life will change
...can't wait for the opportunity to see this stuff live...and hopefully party with some fine, dear Zoners!
...my .02, as always
as always, god bless you Phil Lesh!!
Just got my shows dsdb and as a pal o' Warrens,I sure as hell ain't complainin' .I'm even giving him a copy of Sat. nites show.I think he'll dig it.Thank you Phil for being one to switch it up and NOT stay with the norm.
God Bless Ya Man!!!
