I'm so stoked!!! My birthday show and we're in
the sixth row!!!
Whoo eee!!!
Yo, Mike the daisy-picker, that's my birthday, too! (altho I think I've had about 10 more of them than you) maybe we should hook up for a beverage...?
and don't forget to bring some flowers to give to the undercover armies of the night, who will be working hard to find fatal errors in what's otherwise alright.
happy birthday!
i'll email you my cell so we can celebrate our
birthdays with some tasty beverages...
i've never been to merriweather...
what to look and look out for?
Hey folks,
should be a good 20+ of us zoners at Merriweather....for those who havent been to Merriweather, its a nice venue inside, but real tough in the parking lot. Lots of cops, they'll let a very MINOR shakedown. Also the cops will check your cups and will make you pour out all beers even in plastic cups, I kid you not, experienced it on many occasions. Literally gotten to point if you want to walk around with beers, you best put them in empty soda bottles. And for those who havent been there in 5 years or more, yep the venue outside has changed that much....use to be way cool. have a great show and see ya there!
OK...Perfect drinking solution. Jack Daniels Downhome punch, in Gatorade Bottles. I use it for every Merriwether show I go to.
Was just there on Friday for Panic- everything was cool in the lot as long as you had a cup. Anything that looked like a shady deal was under scrutiny though, and there were uniformed officers on atv's. After the show was kind of freaky when they had a chopper with a search light flyin' around. We got out after the show really quickly to avoid whatever was going to happen.
Yeah, they had the same thing at any show I've been to there over the past several years. The bottom line is...Don't act stupid, and it should be a Kind day.
Absolutly watch your step in the lot, they'll question you if they even suspect that something's going down, and don't even think of smoking in open sight in the lot, you'll be busted before you get the smoke out of your lungs. I know in the past they had undercovers in parked cars just checking folks out and if they saw anything suspicious (or obvious) they'd radio in to the troops and suddenly you'd have 3 or 4 cops around your car. The folks parked across from us in 2000 got popped that way right before we headed in, I had seen the guy doing the scouting in a car across from us but didn't put 2 and 2 together until the cops showed up in mass and busted everyone. It wasn't a good way to start the show and made me edgy all night long.
OK, so here's my situation. I was asked to drive out east in a Penske moving truck (small 15' one)hauling car seats and baby strollers. WELL...just so happens that Phil is playing just a couple of hours from where I need to be. SO...I how could I justify not going to the show? What kind of problems will I have parking the truck in the lot? Anywhere else to park it (nearby hotel...I need to sleep)?
AND...since I've never been out East to see a show, I'd like to meet up with a few of you. I'll be wearing my green Gov't Mule Music for yo' Ass shirt and a hat with a big C.N. on it!
If the band reads this, please check your last 2 DC (DAR and MPP '01) setlists and shake it up a little. Some of us can't get to all the shows on tour for variety. HOW 'BOUT a Shakedown and a Dark Star--the best of both worlds!! THANKS
Bean,
The Columbia Mall is right acrossed the street and there is plenty of room to park there. You might have to walk a block or two but that's all.
Yo Nathan,
There is a big mall acroos the street from Merriweather. You could get away with parking the van there. Also there is tons of lodging around that area....The scene is usually pretty cool...The cops can be dickheads..but its their job you know....There is a field out back of the venue..where all the magic happens before the show...I don't think you could park there because they would probably want to see whats in your ride....just a hassle not worth going through.
All in all a pretty cool place to see a show...Its my hometown venue....
CC, I saw both DAR and MPP 2001 and loved both set lists (and performances), what wasn't to like?
The more and more I think about it, the more I can't wait! The guy asking me to fill in for him knew it all revolved around my touring schedule. Fate and awesome karma has brought me to this place for a reason!
Thom: I enjoyed both shows thoroughly, but there were more repeats than not. Check the setlists, but tunes that come to mind are Walrus, 11, mtns.
>good 20+
Make that plus one more, providing I can obtain necessary entry into the venue...
See you there! I hope...
Right ON, Headlight! Can't wait to meet ya....Mid Atlantic RollOff???? (or at least, you can learn me good....)
would someone please explain the Zone shirts???
This is straight fro Robert Hunter's Tour Diary...
"the guys are getting along so well they're talking seriously about taking the Other Ones on the road. Don't say I told you, but I think it's a reality. They all want to, so what should stand in the way?"
http://www.dead.net/RobertHunterArchive/files/newjournal/53journal_July_02.html
I may actually meet Headlight....Note to
self bring hard hat...LOL!!!
Hope to break some bread with you...
Yeah man the Boys have that vibe...Felt it
when they announced Alpine...This is great stuff..New found fun energy...Got to love it..
i know this isnt the board for rides but Merriweather is gonna be shakin.. still haven't found a ride
right now in PA(wilkes-barre) .... will help out with gas & parking or anything along the way..
~Can anyone help this SisTah out??~
Less than 24 hours, and this thread is bare..What's up all??? I'm too pumped...
Merriweather is going to be an insane time. Phil said last night to be sure to come down to Merriweather because it will be an even better time than last nite in Camden. Plus, all of these songs are due, Dark Star, Terrapin, Cryptical, Other Ones, Lovelight, The Eleven. Wow! This has the making of a fantabulous show
With Bobby in Towson Tomorrow...is there a chance???
I'd say it is a definte possibility. He's isn't playing anywhere tonight, and when Phil said the next nite would be "even more fun", me and my friend looked at each other and just said one word "Bobby"! I can't wait for this show. This is the most jazzed I have been about seeing a show all tour (save my first show of the tour, but that was for totally different reasons).
Are you sure Phil wasn't talking about the trampoline jumping after tonight's show? This will be fun. Everyone have a great and safe time tonight.
Gonna walk out on the limb, as this is the first DC area appearence since 9/11 - How about a "
Keep on Rockin IN the Freeworld" Encore.
Thats right, you heard it here first.
Have fun, all!!
Sure wish I could see the PLQ right now; looks like the boys are scorching the East Coast on this run! I'm seeing the DSO tonight at a little amphitheater down the road in Breckenridge CO. (At least I don't have to worry about over-bearing lot security!) Be careful in Columbia, and have a great show, zoners-- I'm sure it'll be great!
Tom, hope you can make it for another Fillmore run someday.
Crabfest beats Jazzfest...thank you all for a REAL good , time(s)per life with you in it. Many more once we roll on into another town. Thank you forever and a day.
C'mon, who's got the first set for me?

Maybe it's me...but I was very disappointed with the second set tonight. Especially after such an Awsome first set.
Hey there...nice night, hotter than the hades...
Jam, fast spaced melt. Theme in it, and hints of Terrapin. Blew that but not really. Crazy Digits and that last digit jam by Jimmy was kick butt. Sound is too loud so Warren is distorted. Jam into that FOTD intro... Berthalike tease to end the Digits..Wrong, the now monster like UJB intro. I still grin when people don't know what the tune is...been since Wiltern show...Energy back on...did I mention the heat yet? Power Jam, getting familiar. I swear I hear Playin...yup, big tease. Into the Loose Lucy tease. I can see a bunch of Zoners without creaking my head. Almost full stop...intro and full on Keep On Growin'. Yes, Billy kept up, and just up and left to thunderous applause. Patchwork Quilt Blue Sky Just A Little Light. Not much to expound on there. A great set.
I'm still melting from the heat... they teased the Playin' in both sets, but as pointed out to me TWICE, no extra amp= no Bob. I say the Playin and the Dark Star+ Other One is coming with Bob at the Beach. Don't know what was dissapointing about the 2nd set. Thought the Terrapin Reprise after Again and Again was great, and the Sunshine was Epic as well. Nice meeting all y'all and the last three nights have been a BLAST! Heck, I loved it all. Best band around.........so far.

trichromes: Billy K. i promise I'll see u play next time u come to San Diego...
What time did the show start? Tix for Raleigh say 3:30, but I hope, for heats sake, the music won't start until later. Of course, we know the music never stops...
Missed the openers, but Phil came on early, like 7:15.
Message to band: Please no more Terrapin's in MD, particularly with a BAD new song inserted in the middle. It's played out.
Rest of the show was great, incl. smokin Sunshine of Your Love (look at all the light/heavens/sky tunes in the show) and nice tight Viola. Nice playin' teases, fairly long one in Set II. During the rap, philasks who's going down to VA, because I'm going to have a great time with my buddies Billy K. and Bob Weir. Sounds interesting . . .
Also, Molo was paying homage to Billy K at the same time he was showing him some new moves. Pretty cool interaction. Numerous good guitar duels or lick trading b/w Warren and Jimmy. Gotta go.
Hey CC,
So I guess you do not like the new album....Again and again is actually a great time...I guess you didn't like The real thing either. So you don't like Warren?
What is worng with you....Buy the album and stop crapping on tunes u do not even know.
Message to band: Please don't think that cc (charlies)'s opinion [although as his own is perfectly valid for him] is the same as other people who think that last nights Terrapin was fantastic and that Again and Again is a perfect choice for a Terrapin split.
I fully agree with all else that CC wrote including the Sunshine of Your Love comments.
That song, hell that show fell together like water through a colander. Effortlessly forming into a liquid mass. Patterns, that when looked at individually, hold the watcher rapt and when you dial out to get the big picture they form a perfect parquet. A tight seamless work which shows the handmade craftsmanship of true artists.
Well Christian, I can understand, although not QUITE as vociferously as CC, what I THINK he's saying there.
The first night Phil played at "The Vibes", 7/5/02...in MY opinion would have been an absolutely PERFECT 2nd Set, except for the fact that they plugged "Again and Again" into the middle of "Dark Star".
That's not to say its a BAD tune (although CC apparently IS...maybe WHERE it was played is "coloring" his view)...but I think we woulda been better served had it not been in THAT spot.
It turned what would have been a "PERFECT GAME"...into a "One Walk...No Hitter".
BTW Key...my buddy ended up with a wristband last night....it was his first show....
I hate you both [jealous]
LT:
That was AWESOME!
We didn't even HAVE tickets to Hartford until an HOUR before Phil came on..got two in the 7th Row, right in front of Warren, $85.00 for the pair.
My buddy, "GeeWiz", went right up to the front after "Brokedown", and I went with him, but a little off to the side.
He keeps yelling, "Phil! Thank you, PHIL"!
Phil turns around, curls his fingers to his lips, "culinary style", and says' "No...thank YOU"!
He then takes each sweatband off, hands them to his son...who walks over to the front of the stage and flips 'em to us.
Mine is hangin' off the Shifter in my Minivan!
A BEAUTY-FUL THANG!
Well I can't honestly say that I have no doubt that it found it's way to someone who will treasure it always...
Absolutely...LT!
Ab-so-lutely!
Thank god you put it on the shifter and not on your crank...
Not to forget, because I never will, Hunter played the house out. Unbelievable mix of larger than large and small and intimate.
Like waves against the bandstand the emotions broke.
He finished with Promontory Rider and I jumped to my feet to applaud and he went smoothly into Ripple. The crowd was left screaming out to an empty stage half begging for more half celebrating what they received.
I hope he finds this tour envigorating and acceptable enough to come aroung soon.
I figure he has to pay for that guitar somehow.
I think that Merriweather is a beautiful place, but will not return there until something is done about the cops. I can't believe that they spent all that money to keep a helicopter in the air all day. Just to bust people for smoking herb.
Phil is always talking about the community. Maybe we should petition him to not play invenues where they are not kind to the community. There are plenty of other places that would love to have us, I'm sure.
Peace love & joy
Richie
Hot night, great sets again, lower energy for me because of three nights in a row. Billy K. did a better job tonight then last, fantastic UJB and KOG. I love Patchwork but the folks were streaming for the exits during it, obviously not a crowd pleaser. Blue Sky was nice, not as good as Holmdel but no Derek tonight so that's no big surprise. Little Light torched, very agressive, thought it was a short set but there were 8 songs so maybe it was just me.
Second set was all great, I love Again and Again, you folks need to get a pair of ears and stop expecting to be rocked out every second. My third Viola in four shows, how often is that going to happen? I'd put this show a very small notch below the previous two nights, but that just means an A instead of an A+ Tour's over for me, back to the real world.
Hey all...
I just got back from Merriweather...
Lots of fun...I especially liked that Sunshine
of Your Love!
What's the deal with the security and cops?
These people take their jobs way too seriously...
I can understand if people are risking the safety
of themselves or others but drinking a few beers
before a concert instead of paying $7 and more
for it inside doesn't seem unreasonable. Even
inside the security was up everyone's ass...
Anyway...
The greatest was bumbing into Rob Borroco at
the Sheraton Hotel before the show! He was
on his way to the hotel gym for a workout...
I couldn't believe it...it was 2 in the afternoon!
He must have bundles of energy!
He was super nice and it made my birthday even
better...I just wish my brain was in better
working order so I could have asked him something
interesting...
this was my last show for this tour...it was a
great run and now the countdown begins for their
return in the fall!
Second Set
Serious business, twangy jam, Jimmy ripping it up. Same energy as the Keep On Growing, why do I think Scarlet Abb Style? Weird. Meltdown Jam, all around really want the Sitting On Top of the World breakout...Space, FunkoJam into a blazing Here Comes Sunshine which we had been talking about the night before, what tunes had been out , of rotation...Bass Bombs and again, too loud. Jimmy solo on the end of HCSS was not to be believed...full on RockStar. Downloaded into a HYPERSPACE-Heavy Duty Whack Job Jam...spit us out down the flushing toilet...shit, Whiplash!!! Is it the Other One..HUGE crescendo, it will be the Lucy night. Really cool sherbet purple/orange swirl lights...only ones I noticed...LUCY...stellar to the note...epic ending that got squashed into a Scarlety thing. I know the next Jam...really pretty good. Playing Jam this time...we all argued the merit of the Tease/Jam...tease first set for me, Jam second set. "Wicked tease I predict", from my notes. Gestapo Man blocing my view for the second set in a row. Overzealous prick...Have no idea why the jams are spinning out like this. low Spark is a distinct possibility but tempo up there...Holy Shit...Sunshine of Your Love-melted out at the end...So What! Just a tease in the middle, back into the last verse of Sunshine. Terrapin, what a surprise. The Again and Again is a stellar version. The vocal display is not to be believed...if you don't care for the tune, be kind to those of us that love it...it is weird as a sando filler, but the beauty of the lyrics of the Terrapin and the Again and Again worked for me...back into Terrapin...blast off into a Viola kick you in the ass another wow...a Jimmy thing again, and if I didn't know better, nope, forget that....(mystery tease), I thought we were going to go back to an HCSS reprise, nope, like I said, ...
Donor Rap....Encore: Real Thing.
My last show on the tour...it was stellar, I loved it, and the thanks are all deeply personal. For those of you moving on, safe travels, and pass on the KFC vibes.
Was I hallucinating or did I actually see a woodchuck dancing on top of Warren's monitor?
You saw it.
or maybe you didn't. I saw Homer tripping the light fantastic last night
Fuck Merriweather, aka Nazi Germany.
love phil
yeah I saw those security guards loading those trains heading for the furnaces.....
little over the top comparison there???????
The gopher was out for just a little while, it didn't seem to be working correctly (wouldn't open all the way while dancing) so I think that's why it was gone later. Homer was there too.
>little over the top comparison there???????
no, not really.
Was really, really cool to meet GCarlin though, and it's always a treat to see Daydream. Have to apologize to you again for whatever that guy's name was. What can I say? At least he took a shower.
Maudib....no apologies....It's just a Phlow thing!!!
Great to see you again and next time don't make it 7 monthes!!!

enough to our Huck...Your a great soul..
Less than and Greater your hospitality was
amazing..
Fog damn man I would have like to had a beer
with you...I left your number at work...
Anyway head is in the fog and want to write
something all inclusive of all the shows
I have seen and to the great zoners I have met..
Will get to that in towards end of tour when
a tour thank you thread starts.. Much to say
on the fine shows, zoners and the amazing things
that have happen to me in this zone
experience..
Did I say playin jams...Man they were sweet!!!
What a fantastic show,,five stars all the way...
I did get a chance to meet a few zoners at the set break,,,and I ran into Less Than,,Hurricane and HR,,and a few more...To those of you I missed ,,well i'm sorry..I had a nice shady parking spot and didn't feel like venturing out...
That woodchuck was replaced by a Jamming Homer,,and did anyone actually catch Warrens guitar pick after he threw it...
The lot did kinda suck,,,was that a surprise, NO....No one around us got hassled and no one got their beer poured out..
This band just kicks ass,,Phil looks stronger than he did last year...Jimmy was outstanding and he and Warren seemed to be having a great time...I loved the setlists....Especially the Blue Sky and Viola....Just a total treat all the way......Well I did want one more encore.
Re: MPP, Wondering why the lot and police are such a big deal? OK so the helicopter was a little over the top, narcs in tie dies nothing new there. What does it say about people who are so, skip that, not smart enought to party under cover? The rules say no drinking or else. So don't drink or is that required for a good time? Ever hear of a cup? Shit they let everyone vend I mean Full BLOWN shakedown street, food and all. I even bought a really nice dress for my daughter. They could be real pricks and hand out vending w/out permit tickets, send the health department to check out the food temp. Roll by every car with K-9's. Has anyone ever been to a communist country. Hell anytime a bunch of hippie fun loving people can get together by the thousand close to my house I'm all over it even if I have to follow a few simple rules. Gimme a break, I had a marvelous time and intend on going back. The bathrooms weren't crowded, water was plentiful, and the bridge after the show wasn't even a hassle. OK so this is the section for reviews and I'm posting mine, anything those guys do up there on stage is cool with me since it's thier gig. If I don't like it I stay home. The best thing is that I'm convinced that most of the band is sincere and not milking it. That says alot in this day and age. Personal highlights, my freinds on both sides of me 2 to the right and one to the left. Even some old travelin buddies who showed up in the row behind I hadn't seen in a long time. Phils thumpin like he was a sixteen year old kid on a prom date and Jimmys overall sweetness. So cool to be alive and free!!!Peace and Love to Everone
how long was that show actually in time.. they seem to be playing longer sets!!!!!!!!!!
thanks folks!
Right on about following a few simple rules in order to avoid the hassles. Anyone who's been to MPP in the past three years, or has read the reviews, knows what the parking lot scene is like so just be prepared. Like the man said, ever been to a communist country? This kind of action just doesn't happen there folks, hell they can't even make a decent role of toilet paper. Thank your lucky stars you're right here right now and read a little history if you want to romanticize the past, or watch 1900 House on PBS to see how miserable life was for the average person just 100 years ago. Thanks Phil for another four great shows, hope to see you in the fall?
>how long was that show actually in time..
Don't know for sure, but the Rev. and I walked into our seats just before it started. Thanks Brad for the VIP parking, and club passes!
Sorry for missing so many of you Zoners, especially those of you who mailed me after I left Thursday. I guess I should have made better plans, but the whole Hershey debacle sort of blew me out of the water and I spent the remainder of the weekend licking my wounds, figuratively.
I'm really sorry we didn't hook up, since I know it will be hard for many of you to come to CO.
Thanks LT and GT for the Crab fest and your gracious hospitality! Nice to meet you Shakergirl, Happy B-Day indeed!
The trip after the show was a nightmare for the Reverend and I; I got turned around somehow and what should have been a 15-25 minute drive back to his hotel, turned into the Twilight Zone and over an hour.
I still had to drive back to Wilmington. Almost overslept in the AM and was sure I was going to miss my flight home, out of Philly, which would have only been the icing on the cake of this trip, but made it with minutes to spare, so alls well that ends well.
Christian,
(I think Keyshawn understood my point.) Don't get too defensive. I like Warren; you should've seen him waive to the crowd when announced. Kind of like, "aw shucks" guys. I really like the Real Thing, although, again, when it ended, the vibe in the crowd was sort of like ??? No second tune . . . you're going to finish with that? ALthough that's not how I felt after the Real Thing, I did have that sort of feeling when Again and Again popped up in the middle of Terrapin. And Terrapin is always played at MPP by P&F. It seems to me that the selection of this song may not have been given as much thought as the others. As Keyshawn said, "I think we woulda been better served had it not been . . . ." in THAT set (not spot). "It turned what would have been a "PERFECT GAME"...into a" a solid show, but probably not one of the highlights of the tour. It otherwise had the potential . . . .
Another highlight was that Keep on Growin (yes), which really ripped. I think they really find the groove in that tune. A also think a Little Light rocked . . . some of these versions are better that some of the GD versions (whereas, with Terrapin, IMO of course, I enjoy one of the worst GD versions better probably than the best P&F version), and these are the tunes I look forward to when seeing P&F. As fas as the sound, I thought the sound was good and clear (you could hear Warren whet his lips at times). . . maybe a little loud, although it made for good tapes ;>] Take it easy, back to the bay, beer and crabs . . .
>>>>>>>>>>>The trip after the show was a nightmare for the Reverend and I; I got turned around somehow and what should have been a 15-25 minute drive back to his hotel, turned into the Twilight Zone and over an hour.
Why did I see that coming?
Glad you made it. Feel free to cast your shadow on my doorstep anytime.
Better luck next time with the rental situation
Who was that beautiful redhead facing the audience left side of stage doing the sign language for the deaf fans?
During Here Comes Sunshine, I swear you had a halo and wings.
>Why did I see that coming?
I didn't even mention getting onto 95S instead of MLK Blvd. when I was trying to get us to his car, which was parked in some garage a couple of blocks from your hourse. :-(
Definitely not one of my better mini-tours, driving-wise that is. ;-)
Daydream glad you liked that Greek show that was a fun night all around....
"The trip after the show was a nightmare for the Reverend and I; I got turned around somehow and what should have been a 15-25 minute drive back to his hotel, turned into the Twilight Zone and over an hour."
I believe that was an understatement as it was closer to 2 hrs then 1 and what was not mentioned is the teenagers would wouldnt leed us there for $20 and the shuttle bus driver that did. If not for him we would STILL be looking for the hotel. I was convinced that the hotel imploded because some poltergeist wanted all my Phil shirts. Thats what I get for wanting to save a few bucks and not stay at that sheraton within walking distance the band stayed at...oh well next time....
Less Then:Thank you oh so much for your hospitality it was a cool thing you did opening your home to all of us.Hope you didnt have to spend too much time giving people like myself and headlight directions.
Shakergirl:A pleasure to meet you wish I would have known it was your birthday but am glad you got to see such a killer show on your birthday.
JMoore:Nice to meet one of the first people to ever send me music on this site.
Taper Rob:Sorry to help make you miss the first few secs of hunter.
Sideshow Bob-cool bumping into you
Fog-Glad I made my way over 10 people to say hello and thanks again for the 411 about the sale because those seats I got rocked even for me.
Brad:Thanks for the parking hookup!
Schnee/Bret:Nice to see you again good luck on your old school journey....
Dew-A pleasure as always will see you at Alpine on sunday if not on one of these shows this week.
Psyc circus,Huck,Daydream-See you all in Raliegh
Headlight-you and me are now members of the team Phil designated rider program where if we even show up at a Phil and friends show we are to be flogged......
sorry to those I may have missed it is a little hazy...
ps:at least the bag made it back to Atlanta...
looking for 1 good indepth review of entire show. just 1. not too much to ask.
Rev,,,,I knew I met someone from Atlanta,,a total pleasure meeting you,,,where was Headlite,,,And was that Brad that was sitting next to me during set 2 i'm guessing...
Stank my revue is,,go see them every chance you get...
Stank, forgive that it was in two parts. I gave you a pretty thorough run down of both sets.
Rev,
I will see you in Colorado...no Alpine for me. Please tell the bag I am sorry to have not said goodbye.
Cheers to Crabfest!!! May we all be together again for such a great gathering.
Yeah Fog, I'm really sorry I missed hooking up with you and Wetdream at Jerryweather.
I was with Brad in the VIP lounge, then went to find the Reverend, as he said he was with a bunch of Zoners, but by the time I reached him most of them had scattered to do whatever.
My bad, I should have looked for you first and then, time permitting gone back to VIP'ville, since I wasn't drinking the only reason to be there was no lines for the privvies.
Someone above asked about the length. It was: 69' 1st set, 91' 2nd set + encore (note I don't count the 10' of dead air when they are off stage between the end and encore, but do count Phil's speech/intro's). An average length show this tour (160'). Last summer's shows averaged around 175' length (also not counting the time between the end and encore, which last year was typically very short). Last spring and fall's were exceeding the 3 hour mark, especially the Boston/Beacon leg. 2 shows exceeded 3 hours this year (2nd Vibes and Holdmel). Last summer only 3 shows were less than 3 hours (Hartford, Jones Beach, Canadaigua). Couple this with the addition of more new songs to displace . . . well, you figure it out . . .
As for a review (also requested above), do you really want to know just how F-ing CHEEZY the Vince song was in the middle of Terrapin? I was actually WISHING it was Stella Blew (thanks Bucky for that term!). And you know what? Go see them every chance you get . . .
Oh, to add minor corrections to the setlists, the Viola tonight (approx 8 min.) was really the 3rd and 4th verses of the Viola started but not finished in Hershey (v's 1 & 2, approx. 9 min.). The setlists (I think) imply 2 full Viola's. That's just not the case. Hey, I'm not bitching here, just stating facts. This goes for the Low Spark at Holmdel and last year's Greek Th. 3rd show - they were both 6-7' 1-verse versions, not full versions.
hey sideshow, thanks for the words, that's the kinda stuff i can use.
yeah sideshow thanks for that...i was wondering if the viola on sunday was to end the one from hershey. thats a nice viola samich eh? almost two shows of meat placed between those slabs. very nicely done.
I have now experienced my first Phil and Freinds show and must say it was GREAT! Glad to see the boys getting along these days. Those of you going to Alpine should feel lucky and hopefully the road won't stop there. Merriweather has gotten to be scary recently but me and my bro parked in the mall lot and even slept in the van there overnight and didn't get fucked with. But That Copter was too much. Again the show was great glad the boys are doing it. And doing it right!
Hey CC
Just a little light to shed on the subject....I think the album is great. I have heard all of it now ...some times two or three times live....and I just think people pre judge tunes they hear and shit like that. I mean evryone knows that you are not going to get what you want all the time...."STONES"....but lets give a fair review...not one like ...what the fuck were they thinking....why did they put it there..etc. etc.
These guys know what they are doing.
I try not to question Phils authority too too much.
Thats cool Headlite,,next time.....
I was sitting next to baloon boy,,,I swear I thought he was doing nitrous,,then I figured out he was just blowing them up...I'm sure he thought he was contributing in some way..
Christian I agree,,one thing i think people need to get over is...They are NOT the Grateful Dead..
Yes, Fog that was I next to you and baloon boy in the second set. Yes, they are not the GD. Some folks do seem to come looking for that and when they don't get it...well sh*t happens. That being said, the Again and Again didn't work for me Sunday night.
Headlight good to see you again and again. You still headed to Hotlanta?
Is it just me or does nobody seem to get the symbolism of putting Again and Again in that slot?
That transition personally didn't bother me...
LT, not sure that I get the symbolism. But then there are many things I don't get. Just ask my teenagers they will tell you. Also I don't think that "transition" bothered me as much as I thought they were going somewhere that they never got to. There are times when I leave shows a bit confused and this was one of them
if there is anybody that misses more than he gets it is me.
I just took it to be saying that we have come a long way to get here. here being the terrapin station family reunion. etc etc if you look at it as more than just a love song from a guy to a girl it opens up a multitude of options. like who is singing to who on NO MORE DO I.....
Bargain by The Who is another classic example. Everyone thinks it is a love song to a girl when it is a prayer to a teacher.
I am king wingnut so I know that my headtrip is whack but I like to see if there is another way to fit the puzzle peices together. By no means do I think that I picked up on the magic thread. If I listen to that show next week there will be another thread I am sure.
And Bertha is about a big vibrating floor fan, and I Am the Walrus is about when Paul got diarrhea on the bus and couldn't make it to the next rest stop (well, at least according to Nat'l. Lampoon). And when Frank Zappa did Johnny Cash's Ring of Fire, it was not about hell, but about those swollen arteries plugging up his anus . . .
Favorite bumperstickers from the tour: "My Pothead Smoked Your Honor Student" (that one has been around before I think), "FarFromPuken" (VW Logo spoof with stick figure holding 2 giant beers), "Keep In Touch With Your Ex - If the Marriage Wasn't Magic, The Divorce Can Be" (ad for voodoo shop in New Orleans with pix of voodoo doll w/pins stuck in). Also cool original artwork poster of Pigpen and Janis, with Pig cupping Janis' "jug".
I know another song: "It's a long, long, way to go home, it's a pretty long way, it's a long long long long long long Waaaaaayyyyyy"
The resemblence is just to uncomfortable for me to bear.
and how many minutes was that one?
Ouch! You got me, L-Than! Not enough minutes to go take a piss and get back in time for the Terrapin reprise, so I actually stayed and listened to the Long Way song. Ditto in Camden for the other Vince song - actually enjoyed it with the sax. Another fav sticker: The round, green Starbucks logo, only it says F*CK YOU instead of Starbucks, and the girl is pissed off, flipping two birds! The dude who made them, Noah, is quite a trip! He did the "Oysterhead Sucks" stickers last fall. A buddy manages a coffee shop, and really got a kick out of the Charbucks parody.
Noah's buddys were the ones in the Shakedown with the ice cream truck and the bullhorn scaring the crap out of everyone "no, we're not the cops! - buy ice cream!" - Anyone catch them?
That leave me out of this in Camden I thought was the perfect choice for that night with Greg O as a guest.
I enjoyed it immensely. Utter chaos
Sideshow, thanks for the verification on Viola, I knew they hadn't finished it in Hershey.
