Up until yesterday I was still checking on flights from Chicago to Vegas, but didn't feel like going by myself...

This makes me feel like I didn't miss out on everything...

And thanks to my lovely wife for bringing the webcast to my attention, or I would have been really pouty this weekend.

On the setlist... Did they sing anything in the Eleven, or was it just instrumental. If there were vocals I missed them...

Great show, fuck you Joan haters, she was terrific with no or very little rehearsal. The "Magnolia Mountain" was very nice. Looked like she was nervous at first to move around, probably becuase so many assholes bitched about her vamping last time. How would you assholes like your dancing scrutinzed. I say leaver her alone, she is a brave soul to get up there at all. Warren was nice to help out. Headband got his day in the sun for vocals and did a very nice job. I thought this was a terrific set.

I am gald Ryan Adams bailed out....this line up rocked,.

Joan was terrific pinch hitting. She was on her own tour right up until Thursday night. No rehearsal? She was terrific and Warren coming in to help oout? Beautiful! Barraco stretching out his vocal chords in the pinch.......sweet.

Jimmy, Sipe , Barry and Old Phil doing there thing. One helluva set!

I am a "homer" but I think it was a magical set.

When I watched the other bands and then watched Phil and co......no comparison!

Really thought the show was great overall... with glorious moments. What a thrill to see 65 year old Phil out there grinning away. As long as him or Bobby are still on stage, I will not gripe ... yeah, I'm a "homer", too.

That setlist really had me missing Jerry, "Help/Slip" being his greatest songwriting moment, imho.<><

Hey now from Vegas!

Energy was terrific all night in the crowd as well as from the stage. Terrific sound mix in a cozy stadium.

BTW, encore was Franklin's Tower sliding back into Playin'

Phil went 30 minutes past his scheduled end, and you can be sure that nobody was in a rush to get him off for DMB.

Sorry you folks couldn't be here--weather was better than perfect. Beautiful scenery. The Vegoose folks seem to know how to put on an event.

>>What is Wicked Messenger?

Gunner's theme song... Dylan wrote it:

There was a wicked messenger
From Eli he did come,
With a mind that multiplied
The smallest matter.
When questioned who had sent for him,
He answered with his thumb,
For his tongue it could not speak, but only flatter.

He stayed behind the assembly hall,
It was there he made his bed,
Oftentimes he could be seen returning.
Until one day he just appeared
With a note in his hand which read,
"The soles of my feet, I swear they're burning."

Oh, the leaves began to fallin'
And the seas began to part,
And the people that confronted him were many.
And he was told but these few words,
Which opened up his heart,
"If ye cannot bring good news, then don't bring any."

Phil laid it down at Vegoose last night! I acutally stayed for Dave Matthews & Friends after, and was blown away by the stark contrast... The Vegoose folks are doing an incredible job of making this a wonderful festival experience, but let's be serious, if we didn't have to answer to the Marketing team, Dave Matthews should have gone on BEFORE Phil! Phil should have headlined the day on the main stage!

Also, all you Joan naysayers need to muzzle it. She once again added her sweet stage presence and her confident & lovely voice. Warren was such a treat too, the Shakedown was massive, and trading vocals on Sugaree was perfect. Warren slipped in the line "I'll meet you at the Vegoose Jubilee!" Classic...

Great to see complimentary "headbands" out there too! Rob Barraco's vocals & keys are solid and having Barry Sless share a few leads as well as pedal steel was amazing. What a show... Can't wait for the late night tonight at the Hard Rock Hotel. Saw Warren w/Gov't Mule there Friday night and the venue is brand new and the sound is great...

Cheers Zoners!

In addition to all the other positives people have noted, I thought Phil played very powerfully. He was turned up on the mix on our side (right side, in front of stage) and was just really agressive and great the whole set. So not only was this a powerful set but it was some of the best Phil-bass-playing that I have seen in a while. Joan again proved her insprirational readings of the hunter garcia catalgues. Also, in the encore, before the playin' reprise, they did some shakedown reprise riffs, no singing, but they popped around it for a while.

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of page Link to this message  By Johnny 2 Times (Mystickaya) on Tuesday, November 01, 2005 - 06:23 pm: Edit Post

Phil was the 3rd guitar. he's was ripping leads on the bass that were as fast as Jimmy. It was astonishing how crazy his playing was. Everyone areound us was commenting on that. He is really peaking right now, just ripping the bass up. I'd use shredding too

Just got back home... my head is still spinning. Both Phil shows were epic in my opinion. The Stadium show was great from the start, but when Warren was announced it seemed as if Phil and the rest of the band got even more energized and picked it up a notch. I was side stage on the railing in the VIP sec. You could see Farmer starting to set up Warrens rig before Unbroken Chain, and its a bit fuzzy still but I think Phil even announced that they were bringing up an old friend. My impression was they couldn't get Warren ready fast enough so we got the Unbroken Chain before Warren came out. I love the Barraco solo though out that jam... the interplay in that song in the solo break is magnificent... Barry lead, Barraco lead, then Jimmy to seal the deal. The stadium just was pure bliss during Shakedown.... Warren's vocals were fantastic as always. btw... he rocked out a nice That's What Love Will Make you Do" at his Mule show at the Joint Friday... just great. Smiles all over that stage... you could tell everyone one in the band was just clicking perfectly. Hide your Love Away was sweet.. Love the Sugaree duet... great interplay between Joan and Warren. "I'll meet you at the Vegoose Jubilee"
Help , Slip..so tight... I was waiting to se what nice surprise we would get after Slip...cause Phil loves saving the Franklins to close the show as an encore. Casey Jones was the perfect choice.. sounded great. Many thought that they wouldn't have time for the encore, Phil was at least a half hour over his limit. But sure enough the Donor rap and a powerful Franklins~Playing reprise to cap just an incredable day at the Fest. I have been up 5 days straight and very weary. Friday I was able to catch, All of The Mule, Trey's second set (worst of the whole weekend imho) and Umphries... so on no sleep at all Phil pumped it up at the fest big time... his playing is better than ever!! I'll post some thoughts on the Joint Show later after more rest, but needless to say 5 hours and 3 sets of Phil at the Joint was almost more than I could take. I know Warren had already left town so he wouldn't be there, but the line-up w/ Joan was just amazing...

peace love and my bed...where is my bed...its calling me!!!! Meet you all at next years Vegoose Jubilee!

I missed Festi show..but did catch Bimbo's and The Joint..

Said almost everything already on those show review threads..

But wanted to jump on here and say how much I appreciated Rob's keyboard playing and his vocals...

Rob..David Nelson and Phil at Bimbos..wow

Rob..Joan and Phil at The Joint..wow..

The fact Rob came from a GD cover band The Zen Trickstrers..to Phil's band..and plays at the level he does..is truly a cool thing..

He carries the load and like a guy from the hood making it to the big leagues..should IMO..be given hugh props..

Having Warren in there also at Vegoose and reading this thread..wish I would have made it out to Sam Boyd..

On dial up so can't stream vids or audio from this show....But..

These 3 shows would make a cool mini Box Set.."Vegas Or Bust..."..

As predicted, Joan screws up an otherwise perfectly fine set.

They had to wait for her telepromter before starting songs. Like who doesn't know truckin'?

Joan practiced Ryan Adams songs so lets use them as filler. Aack.

Joan sings during what should be guitar parts. Good thing Warren shut her up during Sug after a bit & Rob during Casey Jones.

Warren was indeed funny during Sugaree, but looked more ill about having deal w/ Joan singing over his guitar than Barry stealing licks.

I was yelling kick her off stage when she started vocal soloing...

Ditch the 8!+(|-|!

Fall line up will be interesting. Who all is going to the Fox?

Choreboy...I think you misspelled your own name. Should it be Choir Boy?

Either way, you need to clean out your ears, or get new ones.

Not a Joan fan, but, SHE WAS OFF THE HOOK. Freaking great, great performance, and she went on to The Joint, making the night.

As for Warren and Joan, you really are an idiot. Would you like to see the video? Joan is the only person on stage that Warren hugged, and if you didn't catch the "eyes" he was making at her and Rob during that Sugaree, you really must be missing something...after all, it was all up there in vivid color for the rest of us to see.

What was really great was that the Joint was even better, despite being sans Mr. Haynes.

P&F are back.
