seems like Friday night was a lot of PigPen tunes + Viola Lee + CR&S - fitting for Chicago being Bluesland and all
will be interesting to see what today brings!
hmmmmmmmm, could be anything.
Phil and Family came out after show last nite and stood under marquis...
Very colorful indeed..
ChicagoTheater
It would be great to hear the gang pull out Milestones again. We'd really get to see what Larry sounds like. But then again, this is more likely on the setlist for Scofield shows.
Any word on a set list? My brother is there but wont answer the phone. Said he enjoyed last night.

Tumbleweed In Eden
By: Chris Robinson
Sing me a song like the wants of the river
Tell me a tale of the wolves
Make me a gift of arrow and quiver
Love me child of the moon
Bring me the bark from the burnt trees of Mayfair
Recite me ancient verse
Control the powers of wondrous color or unspeakable one word curse
Roll me like a tumbleweed in Eden
All the way home
Roll me like a tumbleweed in Eden
All the way home
Go ring the bells of solom forwarning
Chew on the bitteress roots
Go throw your rope speak in split tongue charming
Go shine your pair of black boots
Roll me like a tumbleweed in Eden
All the way home
Roll me like a tumbleweed in Eden
All the way home
And there I'll stay
Lock me away until the day that you love me
So bring back the days of my emerald wanderings
Dream in a wide open sky
Never forget my drunken stumblings
And I'll see you in the by and by

That's okay. But why does everyone have to play Watchtower?
IMO,
Rule #1: A cover song must be unique in its choice and in its use.
Watchtower is tired.
i don't think that they did play it

You are correct Watchtower was not played

Okay..seems the callers at show seem to be a bit tied up at the moment..
Setlist I posted here is far from official..
Anyone going to Milwaukee...have a good one...
"tied up at the moment"...HA
Thank you much for the updates.

spoke to my buddy ddubbs who is in Chicago for the RSNA and went to the show, he said it was psychotic, but he missed the opening jam cause it was like a cluster fuck to get into the place...
THEY DID NOT PLAY TOO.

Yea, I was there, and it rocked. This is the real set list. Other one was not played.
Yeah, no Other One, but a pretty strong tease. Loser and New Speedway were great, Fire was also really nice. Cumberland in the first set. Chris did a nice job with Hurricane too.
Not as much jam-focused as last night, but they were much more consistent and tight throughout the show.
Other One jamo = "other one jam" ;)
Yeah, I guess they didn't really play TOO. Shit, they heavied into the "almost" of it, though. Good stuff, I thought.
The first set was somewhat quick, but really jammed. "Bertha" was hot, "8 Miles High" was a surprise for me, and a welcomed one. "BEW" was good, too, even though C Rob decided to leave the last verse for some other night's show. In the second set, "Scarlet" was great. Larry then grabbed the violin and threw out his licks for "Hurricane." It was nice, and he looked quite comfortable playin' it, shock-shock. Finishing the "China Cat" last night with "Rider" tonight got me smiling and shake, shake, shakin'. Crowed slowed into "Caution," but naturally picked up for the finale. All in all, good show. Was floor level with eproph, thanks to his generosity, and I thought that the sound there was better than upstairs. And now.....I wait. Quiet Chicago.
I could give a honk about C Rob havin' to read some lyrics off of a prompter. He hits the inflection right when he sings 'em, and does so with feeling. To me, that's more important. If he reading them worked the same as somebody reading a speech off of notecards, then we'd have problems. He works well with the band, and I kind of think it's cool when they look at each other to work through the changes or cues to roll through another solo. The Barry/Larry tag team is a good one. Slessy wails up in the high register, and LC played some mean shit in the lower octaves. He seems to be somewhat of a "low lay'r" on stage, but his talent can't be questioned. I was looking forward to Jimmy, but, eh, I left last night and tonight happy and hungry...though the band didn't have much to do with my hunger...unless I worked up an appetite dancing. Then yes, yes PLAF made me hungry.
fuck dude that review made me hungry. wooooooo
the gd movie is on WTTW channel 11 Chicago, right now its just INTERMISSION
I'm watching it! How great. Decided to just head home after the show instead of going out, and was regreting my decision when I saw that the only things on television were "Titanic" for the thousandth time or "The New Drapes Show" on Home and Garden. UNTIL I turned on good ol' public access. Woo-hoo. Looks like I'm up till 3 tonight!
good show.
the band played a hell of a show tonight.
sound was much better - the mix was better too. i could hear every instrument including CR's acoustic guitar....mookie was still low in the mix but more present than yesterday.
the band tightened up quite a bit from last night.
highlights for me were cumberland blues, tumblewood in eden>8 miles high, new speedway boogie, hurricane, and jam out of rider>feedback>caution.
song of the night is a toss up between new speedway and hurricane.
i could rave on about each of these highlights but just get the tapes.
every member of the band brought their game tonight and i could hear an obvious improvement after just one night. im pretty sure we will hear/see this trend continue
can't say enough about each and every member of the band stepping up and delivering a very memorable performance tonight. they all were on and very much in tune with one another.
Keep this lineup Phil.
what a show!!! hurricane and i know you rider were absoulutly amazing!
keep that heart fam
Burgersburgers..Thanks for keeping us in chat updated...
I also had another caller text messaging me...His exact board identity I do not know for sure..Thank you as well....your after show message..."Spectacular" got a chuckle from my daughter and I..
No text messages were recieved from either caller after."Big Brown Feedback>Caution" was typed to me....and callers were not heard from again to well after show was over...
Us in chat figured Phil had rendered inoperative all electornic transmisssions from Chicago Theater....
Song selection of this show looks real good. No doubt Phil had on his "game face" and the band were in a groove. I may sound like a complete fool but a reviewer said that the jamming was not as intense as night before but the band was tight as shit musically and vocally. LIKE WARFIELD SEPT. 25 03 PERHAPS?.....OR AM i DRINKING TOOO MUCH VINO ...AGAIN.
LOOKING FORWARD TO HEARING MORE REVIEWS.
God bless you all!
and oh yes.......ADIOS AMIGOS
>i could rave on about each of these highlights but just get the tapes.<
Dude...what the fuck is a tape?
part of a review that some people didnt mention i dont think was that secerity was rediculous. i actually saw some lady guard choke a dude that was dancing in the aisle. rediculous.
>part of a review that some people didnt mention i dont think was that secerity was rediculous. i actually saw some lady guard choke a dude that was dancing in the aisle. rediculous.
First of all DUDE......I am not a lady...secondly, the dude deserved it because he was pulling on my panties.
LOL tooo fucking hard.
sorry to those i had hoped to see and missed.
for me this show was outstanding. the vibe was great and i found few flaws in the performance.
got them in my own backyard tonight.
GO PHIL!
>>Dude...what the fuck is a tape?<<
sorry man i meant cd or compact disc.
have another drink kenny kars - its early - and the bulls won again for the 2nd night in a row on the road!
fuck yeah!
if the bears win at noon i will be forced to haul my ass up to milwaukee to see phil play again.
i ain't superstitious - this is fate i'm talking about here....which is different imo.
i couldn't fight it if i tried and if i did it probably wouldn't be very healthy.

first set was realgood,Bertha kicked ass, 8 Miles High was a surprise treat and very tight, BEW grooved really good and GOLDEN ROAD was off the hook, that was worth the price of admission for me, it sounded so good and they jammed it out superbly... 2nd set was totally stellar from start to finish, i never sat down... Loser was an alltime classic version, a real bluesu Clint Eastwood Western saloon vibe... other one jam into great Speedway, CR really nailed these... Scarlet was a surprise treat, wasn't expecting that at this point. Phil sang, CR left stage... sounded like it was jamming into Just a Little light at first to me, then sounded like Watchtower, then became Hurricane. Absolutely SMOKING. Jam is same 3 chord vamp as Watchtower though, and Larry was sizzling on the fiddle... huge huge jam... and to segue into Rider, woohoo, this set is pure kind... Caution started off a little meandering and weren't sure it was going anywhere, energy drifting off a bit... but then they really brought it home w/ big tight jam at end, that i thought might end set, but no, FIRE! CR sounded great here, so nice to hear Fire w/o Mickey's lame ass rapping!
I was exhausted by encore, and it seemed band was too, Truckin started off a little flat imo... but then they picked it up and Phil was dropping some serious bombs... great great show
Ah..Nothing like Sunday morning coffee and reading Phil and Friends Only review threads..
Rare occurances in these deserts of late..
Love the way reviews connect me to the show and the nuances of energy and ambiance not attainalble from setlists and "tapes"...
Second cup ready to go..
i need atlantic city tickets
Chitown fellas. Howdy!
Kid Cisco, nice to get down with you.
Purp and his Nothern homie are probably sliding down the freeway right now and thats just awesome in so many ways. HC Sunshine. yeah, I'm watchin you Mr Boogie
something is going to happen in Milwaukee woooooooooooooo
B, ya shoulda stuck around,
we got pretty odd in that place, and then a little bit more... 0-0
Good to see ya freaky sir.
Saturday's show was
hey how did our seats all end up right there together?
I will concur on a few points already made:
Bertha was quite good; Cumberland started off very quickly...a bit muddy in my opinion, but soon became recognizable and was a nice treat. 8 Miles High was a nice surprise, but didn't really pan out for me. GR was rockin'
In the second set I thought they were going into Wharfrat for some reason, turned out to be Loser. Same idea TOO tease had me all excited, but then thought Smokestack and nope, Speedway. Rider was the highlight in the second set for me. The Phil bombs at the end of Truckin' were incredible!!!
Who will be in M'waukee
who is calling in tonight's setlist for all of us living vicariously in the chatroom?
looking forward to more surprises!
Thanks for the reviews folks. Cant wait for New Years!
..>>..who is calling in tonight's setlist.??..<<
What happens in Milkwaukee stays in Milkwaukee..
Question...people mention here + Mrs. P wrote up a few posts..
..>>..The Phil bombs at the end of Truckin' were incredible!!!..<<
Was there fireworks after the 07/09/95 Soldier's Field show..??..
Gdad,
I believe there were fireworks at the end of that show, but my memory can be faulty at times.
"and for once at a stadium, instead of bolting for our cars as the display distracted the audience (and kept the exits clear) we all stood silently together and watched the brilliant light show"
...
It goes on to mention that 2 days later..after that horrific tour..Jerry says at band meeting..
"Hey, man, I want an extra twenty dollars per gig for dodging bullets"
They all laughed mightily..
That was the last time Phil saw Jerry...
Sorry should have been on Other Stuff...

Wow, what a fun weekend.
Personal highlights from saturday include: Bertha, Tumbleweed is a cool song with a great jam at the end, and 8 Miles was a real surprise. Golden Road...., Thank You Phil!!!
2nd Set: New Speedway was the peak of the set for me. Phil was really having a good time on this one. Disapointing Chris is not even singing back up on Scarlet, I too thought we were getting into Just a Little Light...then Watchtower...then Chris set it up perfect for a Remedy or Wiser Time, however Hurricane is a pleaser.
Overall thoughts on the Shows/Band:
-I think having Chris back in line with the rest of the band, would help EVERYONE with song direction. CR is a very visual performer. The rest of the band could follow him better, also allowing him to watch where Phil wants to go!
-Having music stands and lyric sheets would be much nicer to see than the teleprompter. It can be distracting and difficult to use.
-When Chris was not on stage there seemed to be a void as the band lost some direction. Larry was a disapointment for me. He never took over a song or LEAD the band, as a, lead guitar player should. Berry was great, hope to see him and Jimmy or Warren back SOON!
-Finally, Mookie was not very loud. His piano that is. The ONLY vocals we should be hearing are Phil and Chris! Their harmonies are great. When Mookie, or Larry piped in with Chris, Phil, or both, it threw things off.
Great to see everyone, Yes Joe.....After Rain and Snow and Golden Road, we were rockin till well after sun up!!
SET I:
Like the spokes of a wheel thru a well placed card, Here Comes Sunshine began clicking the familiar sound of times remembered. Nothing too fancy, just keep the mother rolling one more time until we gained enough steam to strap on a Bertha. Well executed and tight turns to steer us directly into the barn burning Cumberland. At this point, we’re flying down hill, shaking loose the drags of life and looking for ma to show her our “no hands” on the handle bar move. Lightning-runs striking and the electricity was building! After a safe venture of breath taking fury, Tumbleweed of Eden allowed for a cool crisp air to relax into. An easy sway to waltz the valley with became the starting point to climb back Eight Miles High. Each turn was another ride in the gondola to work out a scenic ascent in which to perch ourselves atop the clouds. At which point, Brown Eyed Women caught us firing the still as the old man was getting on. Handed him hickory and Phil produced the drink that could kill. May have been a little rusty, but the Golden Road assured us that the best was yet to come.
SET II:
As the lights dimmed, Just Another Whistle Stop reminded us that this train had many cities to tour and tonight was just a glimpse of what was to come further down the line. After the deck was shuffled, Loser spotted the last fair deal in the country – even received a ‘sweet susie’ – and made the grip even tighter. Recognizing the thump and roar of the Other One was only teasing us, we slipped into well chanted New Speedway Boogie that had everyone spending a little time on the mountain! Very easily a high light - our smiles were transitioned into the bounce of Scarlet Begonias. With Phil on lead vocals, he had everyone playing in the heart of gold band. After carefully peeled rainbows from the jam on the end slowed, an innocent man was wrapped in a living hell with Hurricane. Superbly pumped with killer energy, Chris Robinson made me a believer on his delivery with this one. Keeping with the train theme … I Know You Rider came slamming through and humped on the locomotive of life itself. Phil tenderly recited Jerry’s lead line and had reminded this rider that we’re lucky enough to roll one more time in our baby’s arms. After the powerful ending we were quick to see Phil exchanging tools as he grabbed Big Brown!!!
SET II (cont.):
Dialed into the ‘nether worlds, Phil graced Big Brown’s knobs until he satisfactory had the place warped!!! Sucked into the depths like a vacuumed particle next to a black hole, we were under Caution (Do Not Step On Tracks)! Gorgeously pyschadelic and frenzied from beginning to end, we stopped to get pulled and prodded a few times with Chris even announcing, “Someone put a spell on you” – Uh huh. This was my personal high light from the night, seeing Phil bark into his speaker cabinets and he even left the squeal of Feedback as he saddled up his 6-string to throw us into Fire On the Mountain. We capped the railroad/ train adventure as the flames spread to the floor and when you gave all you got, why you wanna give more? After a speedy delivery of the donor rap, Phil greased up the typical city involving a typical daydream and rumbled us back home with Truckin’. As I was set to drive back to my hometown directly after the show, I found this a fitting tribute to me personally and enjoyed the romp warts and all.
Overall I enjoyed the sound Phil has produced and assembled for these shows. The “sound” itself was right-on and the musicians were fitted perfectly. I would highly recommend catching this line-up with these shows and I found the delivery professional, even if there were a few bumps on the ride. Phil looked great, a few bombs to shake your mind and enough boogie to get your groove on. I felt complete afterwards and would have loved to catch another journey. I haven’t listened yet to how the CD’s produced the magic – but I would hold reservations until you meet Phil one on one.
Nice reviews Wonka!
Better than any of the 6 bobby show i've seen all year.Great golden road, new speedway, scarlet ,
rider. Just got back to maryland after a 14 hour
ride home and am looking forward to GMU friday
Glad I went. Learned alot more about IT and alot more about people.
New Speedway Boogie.
Larry's solo on Scarlet is hot...
The show was badass. You couldent ask for better sound than in that place. Although at the wait for the doors to open there were cops parked in the street watching us? what the fuck is that about, security also treated us like shit, i doubt there anything near as rude to people who are going to see Clay Aiken. Once I was finaly in the show it was Crazy i have never seen any place like the Chicago theatre before it was alot of fun
I noticed a fairly heavy undercover police presence at the show on Friday.
I never saw anyone getting dragged out or anything, but there were two pretty obvious cops sitting in front of us for a short time during set break on friday, and I noticed a crew of lookie-lou's w/ binoculars up in the balcony (looking around the crowd, NOT at the stage.)
Made me feel a bit uncomforatble but we were just there to boogie, so whatever.
Met some great people down at Rossi's both nights.
I thought the shows were really good, and I like Larry Campbell a lot.
I think the poeple who catch the end of this tour are in for a big treat.
Highlights were mostly on Friday night for me, but Sat. had some great surprises and seeing Phil on Big Brown was well worth the whole trip!
Overall, a nice run.
We wanted to get to Millwakee on Sun. but had to do the family thing in IL. instead.
Oh well. It's nice to be back in Colorado.
I hopw Phil can bring this line up out west soon.
Thanks Phil!
Here's a shot I took Saturday night:
And another:
nice pic of Phil with Big Brown!
