I like the Morning Dew, I can vouch for you on that one.
We're ripe for Mississippi Half Step may make an apperance IMO.
Knowuser you were 4-20 yesterday..I was 0-2..P.Haines 1-1
Just checked out 360 degree pics of the eagles ballroom. Looks awesome. The long distance from other shows and the clubs name to me suggest few will make the enduring trip. For those who do I'm sure it will be a lovely view! Have much fun and enjoy the scene.
reporting "casey jones" opener...that has been the only update in chat...guess we'll have to wait and see

I've been reading Phil's book... It is cool to see them still rocking out to "Midnight Hour."
Too bad it wasn't 45 minutes worth.

I just saw Phil.
and, no, I don't mean on stage!
He was getting on the bus; I walked up and he was talking to someone, but when done, I got a "Thank you, Phil" in.
6 feet away maybe. Damn that was cool.
ok, enough celebrity whooowa
I honestly couldn't tell you what was played in the first set. It was not very good for me. Song 3 (as it has become known) was a CR tune, as was Song 5.
There was a FOTD in the first set.
anyway, I had three massive asthma attacks tonight. I don't remember ever taking this much albuterol in one night in my entire life. At one point, in front of an EMT, I was having a very hard attack...inhaler in hand, the whole nine yards. He didn't fucking even ask if I was ok. (see below)
the vibe, hate to say it, was nasty. we went down to the Rave bar to get modestly better drinks and saw the bartender--maybe 23 years old--take some heads stash away. Pretty much all "take aways" were for personal consumption later--fucking thiefs.
a few musical highlights in set 2.
grate moment: chatting with notty, standing next to my hubby all night, and being within 6 feet of Phil at the end of the evening
brown sugar?
brown sugar, yuck
Mrs P..sorry to hear bout that asthma deal there...

wow! (((Mrs P.)))
i was looking for you during the set break and second set, sorry to hear you weren't having a very good night.
i also was luke warm on the first set. it was ok, but seemed as if we were getting a bit of the Chicago hangover because those shows were so over the top. i also had no idea what those CR tunes were. they were ok, i just have no familiarity.
the second set started to come together for me. Shakedown is always a treat, and i really liked "Cats". CR does Brown Sugar well.
the scene is always somewhat lame at this venue. it is cool in the aspect that you can often get up close because it is all general admission, but security sucks and the place is a smokey nightmare that is usually is like 150 degrees inside.
I did not get to go to Chicago so from the perspective of the uninitiated I really enjoyed the hell out of the show. Wont do any sort of play by play right now but will say the band was having so much fun on stage it was a joy to watch. It made me have more fun. Phil is not letting things drag. FOTD started off as if to be slow and then Phil pushed it up to the fast version. They need a little more PA system if they are going to push acoustic insturments over the guitars and drums. Mando and acoustic guitar both sounded a little like shoe boxes with rubber bands.
I had no venue hassles saw great friends, ran in to Notty.
I do not agree with all the choices they are making (e.g. Other One arrangement and Don't Let me Down doesn't fit CR's voice) but this band rocks
more later, kids off to school, the bt is already up
first set was a bit of a drag, but still nice. i will tell ya they need to get something together with the sound of the vocals. i saw first night of chicago and last nights show and the vocals are terrible. cant hear them clear at all. i couldnt even understand phil on the donor rap. maybe ive been in "bad spots" for sound?
i thought the second set was really good. nice meeting you notty
could we please get a complete setlist? guess it will have to wait until I get home, listen to the show, and I will identify the 2 Chris/Crowes songs, since no one else can/will.
Song 3 = Who Knows What Tomorrow May Bring (Traffic)
Song 5 = Girl on the Mountain (new earth mud)
>>>Song 3 = Who Knows What Tomorrow May Bring (Traffic)
Damn. I was hoping they would save that for Pittsburgh. The one in Reading was pretty sweet.
If anyone else on the planet makes music anywhere near as rich and intense as the Shakedown>Big RR Blues>Don't Let me Down>TOO stretch of tunes they did last night, please let me know. I try to keep up with what's out there, but where else can you go for this kind of thing?
And who woulda thunk what a great fiddle tune "The Other One" would be.
It's fun to watch Phil pull a fine musician like Larry Campbell into his band. The interplay is constant. And maybe Phil is trying to draw him out of himself and his own style into that Philzone space where anything can happen. Or maybe the new guy already gets it. Either way, he was smiling all night.
All that said, if you're going to see them later this tour, expect more rough spots than you might be used to seeing with Phil's bands. Chris Robinson has a great voice and range for this band, but he's tentative on some of the arrangements.
I think they played "Just Another Whistle Stop" in the first set, but I don't remember if it was before or after Candyman.
LC played mandolin on FOTD, which fits the tune beautifully. (Also cool cuz I'm learning to play mandolin, and that's one of the tunes I sort of know.) But like someone noted above, the acoustic instruments were sometimes a little lost in the mix.
I also saw Saturday's show at the Chicago Theater, but I enjoyed this one more. It was easy to wander within a few rows of the stage, or step back by the soundboard for a fuller sound, which was better overall than where I was sitting on Saturday (far left near the front of the balcony.) I was also spent from a long drive Saturday afternoon, so that may have also had something to do with it.
Oops, you're right...
>>>Song 3 = Who Knows What Tomorrow May Bring
Just Another Whistle Stop was the night before.
This was my first Phil show (really!)...and what an experience it was to work my way to the very front (with my well-seasoned concert-going friend, whom I join at shows on occassion) and just bask in the music and the lights and the prescence of the musicians and fans. As a newbie, I don't have quite the discerning palate that many Zoners have, and so I just loved it all. So much so that I wanted to come on the board and share it with all of you!
Welcome Brigitte
I really enjoyed the show. Only drawback for me was the Brown Sugar and Midnight Hour to close the set. I was hoping for a big GD song somewhere in there but oh well. The Sing Me Back Home had a different arrangement, not sure how much it worked. It was nothing like how Jerry sang it.
However, the rest of the show was way better than I expected. I always love to hear Candyman. Loose Lucy was a blast. The Shakedown, Big RR Blues, THE OTHER ONE, and Cats were more than worth the price of admission. I would love to see this lineup again.
As for the Rave, last night was pretty mild in terms of security/smoke/heat/etc. The place is a shit hole.

This show was SICK! It opened with casey jones which rarley ever happens and he played many different songs. They played so many songs so much differently than normal alot of times i didnt no what they were until like half way through the song. I had an awsome time.

Had a blast!!! Sorry I didn't see or meet up with anyone. I pre-gamed across the street. There was a sweet bar in The Ambassador Hotel!!!
Who Knows What Tomorrow May Bring
At one point, I thought this was the best song I'd ever heard. Still could be. The guitar solo towards the end was beautiful. Phil played off Cambell so well.
The show was great. Security was fine. Even saw something in my friend's bag, but didn't care. Did make her take her camera back to the car tho. But who cares, blast of a show.
the second set sounds killer
