If it is I want one!
Any of you people staying at the Sheraton for the gigs? I'm game to meet some folks for a refreshing adult beverage before and/or after if the mood strikes?
I am calling a Big River, a viola, mr. charlie, an alabama getaway, a golden road, a hurricane, and an UBJ. maybe an eyes, but I think that will come with the terrapin on tuesday. also a throw up.....when will they hit us with the truckin? I'm hoping for a Truckin>Eyes>Terrapin. That would be unreal.
btw, does anyone want to have a zoner meetup spot for setbreak or maybe some pregame?
DARK MOTHERFUCKIN' STAR BABY!
Virgil Caine is the name and I served on the Denver train
Stoneman's cavalry came and tore up the tracks again
In the winter of '65 we was hungry, just barely alive
By May 10, Richmond had fell, it was a time I remember, oh so well
The night they drove ole Dixie down, all the bells were ringing
The night they drove ole Dixie down, all the people were singing
Na, na na na na na na, na na na na na na, na na na na na na
Back with my wife in Tennessee one day she called for me
Virgil quick come see there goes the "Robert E. Lee"
I don't mind chopping wood and I don't care if the money's no good
Take what you need and leave the rest
They should never have taken the very best
Like my father before me, I'm a peaceful man
Like my brother before me, I took a rebel stand
Just 18, proud and gray, but a Yankee laid him in his grave
Swear by the blood running through (on) my feet
You can't raise a Caine back up when he's in defeat
ALL the people were singing

That's a nice sandwich
We'll call that a "Viola club sandwich"
..Hold the cheese, please!!!
did not go to this show, but talked to friends who did go right after the show was over. they were almost to stunned to talk. i had told them that this band was on fire in atlantic city, and they were in total agreement, this band is on fire. and one friend, who has seen many many shows over the years said it was one of the best shows he has ever seen!!!! can you say tower and beacon mail order.
I'm just glad I wasn't there, because if I were my head would have exploded.
That is an absolutely astounding second set!
it was a psychedelic country western barn burner it was. just when you thought they had peaked at mr. charlie which followed a rippin who know's, they rip one of the sickest cuccuamunga mind melting jams i've ever heard
personally i would of liked to hear phil sing a little more, as cuccuamunga and scarlet were highlights...but thats what tonight is for as they are due for some biggies
unfortunantly the viola sandwich wasn't all that great compared to others i've heard all and all a solid show, rating 7
you are right - cuccuamunga was a complete mind melter - unbelievable
(one of?) the nicest peggy-o's i've ever heard. chris on acoustic and vocals and larry on violin
sless really caught fire late in the 2nd set and had probably his best solo on uncle johns band
chris sat out most of we bid you goodnight and missed-timed a couple of entries in the second set but overall he sounded great
Certainly wasn't expecting nearly as good as we got. My new Mojo is to NOT look at setlists pre-show...
Two jams weren't that cohesive---got a tiny bit bored musically...the rest of it was excellent. Everything WAY more structured than in the W&J days.
Didn't hear the keys at all...so cannot say anything about Mookie. Says alot for the band that they were unnecessary.
Chris didn't miss a beat, lick or note all evening. He was spot on, filling holes vocally and showing a sensitivity that previously I hadn't been exposed to. This dude has gotten his shit together. He instinctively knew when to swell his notes to cover up some less than great vocal tunings. Impressive.
This grouping probably appeals to more old school deadheads missing the JG factor. I found the guitarists interpreting the music in the same ways that my Fat Man interpreted Dylan.
Thanks to RBG and my husband for the best seats I may ever have...chest up against the vocal monitors.
And a side note...seeing and feeling the vibe off my husband standing six feet from his second fave vocalist ever, leaning on the vocals monitors was an exceptional experience for me. He loves music so much, and that few hours were just great.
Gideon .... heads up and thanks for the souvenir. Your wife to be is just beauteous. See ya tonight.
Some quick observations from last night.
- Peggy-O and Mr. Charlie where the highlights of set one for me.
- 2nd set was very improvisational in nature. Really jammed out. Some of the jams where good...some seemed quite unfocused...too meandering.
- Great overall "countrified" sound to this band. Much more so than any other configuration. Me likely.
- Phil was having a blast. I've never seen him dance around as much as he did last night. It's good to see him enjoying himself so much.
- The Fabulous Fox is the creme de la creme of venues to see a show. The place has so much friggin' ambience...it really adds to the show experience.
- Venue was about 2/3 full. I'd expect about the same tonight.
- B Sless is the man
- Had seats on the floor but moved up to the balcony. Sound was better, albeit much louder up there.
Hoping to get an Eyes and a Cumberland tonight.
Chris Robinson owns the fox theatre, and last night he owned the show. The good times opener set the tone of the show, and made it abundantly clear that in his hometown, chris robinson was going to steal the show.
after the first 5 tunes: good times, tennessee, peggy-o, WKWTMB, & mr. charlie i was convinced that i was watching "chris robinson & friends". CR left the stage and phil sang cucamonga, which was jammin'and chris returned to close the set with "sittin'"
Great set by chris and the boys!!!!
apperently during the set break it was brought o phil's attention that CR had completly stolen the show, and in turn, phil wrote a viola lee blues into the second set, so that chris would be off the stage more then on... but wait... whoo nelly... the "next time you see me" was the wrong choice if phil wanted to refocus the audience's attention on him. chris once again proved he was the evening's main attraction, or as we say here in atlanta "the real deal holyfield"
more monster jamming after verse 2 of viola and then a short, but rockin version of the song that CR made famous, hard to handle. chris hung around to sing the 3rd verse of viola and then was instructed by phil to split and seemed gone a good long time while phil led the band through a rawcous and rocking but sloppy and poorly sung "scarlet".
the greatest rock and roll singer in the world returned to sing one of the greatest rock and roll songs, "brown sugar". you could see the joy on phil's face during this, as he had to be proud of his choice of friends for this tour. the "uncle john's band" was ferotious but phil's singing was awkward, thus hindering the harmonies. the golden road was a loud rocking closer... great fricking show!
"goin down the road" was an appropriate encore and the "bid you good night" was a nice send off...
see ya tuesday!
>>>"chris robinson & friends".
???
>>>apperently during the set break it was brought o phil's attention that CR had completly stolen the show,
LMAO!
whoo nelly... the "next time you see me" was the wrong choice if phil wanted to refocus the audience's attention on him.
???
the greatest rock and roll singer in the world
Dude, get a grip.
WOW - GREAT show last night - actually EVERY show I've seen since Boston has been stupendous (well except for Friday's HOB end of 2nd set) - the band just keeps getting better - the biggest factor in this has been BARRY - especially last night, he was a man posessed - playing those unabashedly Jerry-ish leads and just ripping up long complicated solo's - I don't think Larry even played a solo in the 2nd set until the Golden Road. The jamming in the 2nd set was simply spectacular - in between every song was a phat jam session that hinted around at many possibilities - and the best part was the jams got better and longer as the set went along, so the best jams were before Scarlet (first brief but noticeable Blues for Allah teases), after Scarlet (a SICK Playin'/Uncle John's jam with Barry riffin on '77/78-ish Jerry pre-drums Playin' jam licks), then again after Brown Sugar (a different Playin'/Uncle John's riff!). Oh and the Fox is as incredible as I remember it - was on the floor which is not the place to really take in the ambience of the venue - tonight will be a smaller crowd so I'm goin' upstairs. Got free internet at the dump I'm staying at (and man what a friggin' DUMP!) but it's friggin' DIAL-UP! So only a few posts today. See you all at Bridgewater Caribbean Restaurant pre-show!
Sideshow Bob on dial-up, lol!
Glad the shows are a fitting finish to a great tour.
nice stuff there trippy mud
>>>Dude, get a grip.
Dude, you need to get a grip...were you even there?
He's pretty correct on a whole lot of the Chris worship...not to mention, it's Robinson's hometown, and he was stellar both evenings....more shining on Tuesday.
It was a great show with great friends. I witnessed some of the best listening I've ever heard during the Viola. Many themes were repeated within the jams. There were tastes and teases of songs that would be played Tuesday, I'm comfortable saying the jams were fully awash with songs ripe and ready for picking.
If one were to compare the former Quintet to the Miles Davis Quintet than this, Phil's Phenomenal Ensemble, is in some ways comparable to Charlie Parker & Strings. Although I look forward to the day Phil tours with a 16 piece orchestra.
Glad you liked it Dew but c'mon greatest rock and roll singer in the world? Chris and Friends? If you say so.
name for me a better rock and roll singer?
scott stapp?
klaus meine?
mick jagger?
phil lesh?
rob thomas?
rob halford?
i dunno, from reading this board, i expected a punk ass, hairspray rock star. what we got was a skinny white hippie kid who sounded like he was the son of patti labelle and rev. al green
