Hey all i thought i had asked this allready but looks like I did not!.
Is there a parking lot sceen of the Fox shows and if so where we every one be hanging out befor the Show?
Pre-Show: Bridgewater Caribbean Restaurant - across the street from the theatre and down the block a little - basically the only bar/restaurant in the area. Food is great. I ate lunch at a Thai restaurant a few blocks down on Ponce DeLeon Ave - it was kinda lame. There's a few other restaurants on that road in the same area. There's an old boarded up mansion there that reminds me of the movie "The People Under the Stairs".
Post-Show: Small but definitely raging parking lot scene, complete with whippet mafia, no heat action at all, very suprising. This is in the lot all the way behind the venue down the hill across the street, not in the lots immediately next to the venue. You have to go behind the Bell South complex and across the street.
oh cool directions to the nitrous party.... geez those losers still around? I always loved going up with a cig and poppin balloons they would be holdin... I love to watch a gassed-up kook try and deal with that...
"oh whoops I'm SO sorry that happened bro"
where's John Langenstein when you need him?
Shakedown is on the side of the building DIRECTLY behind the marquee.
I'll be front row center dancing my ass off.
sideshow, we should me meet! we'll try to be there. I'll be wearing a paisley blue and green button down
please give us a Cats Under the Stars, phil!!!!
btw, meetup spot is RIGHT in front of the soundboard RIGHT when setbreak starts. I'll try to have a blue or an orange hat on, along with a white jerry teeshirt
>>>meteor shower as well
what's that about?
Rest in Peace Tookie!!!...What about RIP for his four victims...gets your head out of your ass
em sent to Harold. did not mean to offend anyone or stir up that discussion, it's on other threads. sorry. KK
tonight is gonna be sick!!!!
Pop my balloon with your cig and I'll put it out in your eye!
i'll fuck anything that moves!

great show, but was Chris Robinson totally f'ed up or was it just me? He kept disappearing. Phil carried him. sick phil bomb's through Help/slip and New Speedway was the $hit.
peace and goodnight
mama mia! that has to be the best-looking 2nd set list i've ever seen
More good stuff. Doing the NYE run, hope things hold up!
And it ends.................
Only to begin again
damn that looks friggin HOT!!!
How about some comments from those who were there...
Or are you stunned speachless???
Sherman burns Atlanta over 140 years ago
now Phil's gone and BOMBED it!!!
JUST..
PLAIN..
SICK!!
heh heh, and Skadhi said "but all the good songs are all used up"
Minds blown too much to type. What a setlist!
Wow, great show! Can't wait to read the reviews.
What a tour. . .
how many shows have left us speechless this tour?
the ultimate compliment
>>>great show, but was Chris Robinson totally f'ed up or was it just me? He kept disappearing>>>
Well, he certainly looked pretty messed up the time I saw the tour but if you look at the second set there's not much for him to do during that time, probably explaining all of the disappearing.
DAMN!!
Really REALLY hoping Phil releases the ATL SBDs... both second sets look beyond epic!
and after the show was over and even after the bow Phil came out and gave his wristband to Merry Prankster.
Way to Go Boys!! Chalk THAT up on the Big Board!!
>> Phil came out and gave his wristband to Merry Prankster.
too fuckin cool.
nice Phil, so glad ya made it Prankster.
CR was off the stage when it seemed he should be singing in AC. I'm thinking that he is backstage getting high.
(Written by Jim & posted here due to log-in troubles)
I’m back at work Monday, still completely blown away by the Friday & Saturday shows in AC at HOB. The first set Fri and 2d set Saturday were, well, ah . . . just no words! Stunning! Hands to the face just to keep it all in. And though I’m here, my head is still there! It suddenly occurred to me . . . I’m a Phil junkie. I’m strung out and need more!
Ask no questions, just do it! In Phil We Trust, right? Jet down to Atl & the Fox for the final show of the tour! And he never lets you down.
First Set: Lots of Chris, which is fine (Tumbleweed is starting to grow on me), but not what I came for. New Speedway and Casey Jones, were highlights.
2d Set: Here’s what I came for!! Super Truckin, performed in the ‘classic’ GD style and tempo. China Cat, always, always a highlight. Jamming after, Rider coming or what. No, its Charlie (Cosmic not mister), which Phil hinted at a few times before laying into. Mountains of the Moon . . . goosebumps . . . LC just great on that thing (a bazooki ??) he plays. Then the thunder. Jamming again . . . Terrapin . . . (with no Lady . . . nobody to sing?) . . . spacey jam. . . some feedback . . . where are we going here . . . Dark Star, and you know how it is, the big grin on your face, and you just close your eyes and go . . . to a smokin Other One jam, before jamming back to DS. But the Help/Slip/ Franklin’s finish was (I thought anyway) the show stopper, especially Help & Slip.
Nice NFA to finish (although it was only about 11:15 and I thought maybe more to come), but no. I guess the band had early flights to catch, like me.
Other thoughts from the shows I saw. Phil, of course, needs no comment. But as my friend Eddie says, whatever Phil’s taking, I want it! Really happy, making faces, hamming it up, enjoying himself. The guy who really blew me away was Sless. He understands the GD tradition and GD sound. I continually found myself watching him play these great parts, filling that guitar space, in the Dead songs. Time after time. Cold Rain, Other One, Truckin, China Cat/Rider, he just kills New Speedway, are just a couple that come to mind.
Well I’m back at work again. When’s the next show?
PS – Great time with old friends and new at the shows. Happy Holidays to all.
PSS – Annie, thank you again.
Just got back from Atl to Fla, very tired. I'm speechless, just some serious f'ing jamming. Barry, then Larry and back and forth all night with Phil dropping bass bombs. I thought Chris did a good job, he does remind me just a little of Pig with that soulfull sound. The seond set speaks for itself.
1. JA Whistle Stop - Thought it was an old obscure Band tune...that's a pretty fucking high comment from me.
2. Tumbleweed - Fuck!
3. Forever Young - the best single ever made of this record. (If you don't believe Phil reads the boards, you are very wrong.)
4. DS-TOO - What can I say? Not much...except...
5. Redemption is a beautiful thing. HSF.
Simply going to come out and say this. The Jam sandwiched in the SlipKnot is unequivocably the best jam in the two evenings. The jamming is definetely not what this band does well. Find that SlipKnot.
6. Molo is FLAWLESS. Period. The end.
7. Chris steps back behind some of the cabinets and smokes cigarettes when he isn't onstage singing. As pointed out to me on Monday...wouldn't he look pretty stupid just standing there...Yes. He would.
8. Without Chris Robinson the first set would have been listless. He was terrific...ten years ago, when I saw him for the first time, it was all I could do to sit there for the end of the show. Rude, unprofessional, etc. Now, having seen him perform many times in the past couple of months, I can tell you I'd pay up to see him. His vocals were absolutely incredible, his timing, musicianship on acoustic, stinging harmonica...he did great
9. Barry Sless saved this show...every time it was hinting at going no-where he stepped up. Amazing musician. Almost no pedal last evening...
10. Larry Campbell did a great job. He is not the guitarist for this band. Certainly nothing against him, his style, his talent...just did nothing for me...he did fill some holes that needed some filling though. Jimmy gave the others lots of room to expound and thrive in. Campbell doesn't.
11. Thank you Phil...for the Uncle Johns, the Forever Young and Franklin's. I owe you one, and will find a way to return the nods.
12. First night, crew had on bathrobes for the second set.
13. Unlike Monday, where some jams nearly killed the buzzing in the theatre, Sless prevented that from happening. His partner in the salvation project: John Molo.
By far, much greater than I thought. Definetely a band that could be JGB, and a band that Jerry would have loved playing in (especially with a lead singer...he liked harmonizing better), this group in no way can be compared to the "Q" (argh, I said that). They are apples and oranges as mentioned regarding Monday night and some jams...
Date with my husband, and Tishamingo...priceless. The music, some of it was just plain as good as it gets.
Thanks Fred...I love you.
Honorable Mention: best houseguest I can imagine.
2nd H.M. : man, the crowd could not have been louder or more enthusiastic. No way. The applause last night was palpably ecstatic. As Phil left the stage he kept punching up his fist...I am pretty sure he didn't expect this group to NAIL the HSF...no way. That tune is a benchmark in Phil's history of greatness (well, in my minds ear it is )
Thanks again for the nods to John. My heart swelled, and I smiled real big for my friend.
Quick observations:
- Bar none, this is the best incarnation of Phil and Friends yet. As great as the PLQ years where, this band will be the one to remember....for me anyway. They really embody the countrified-psychadelic spirit of the grateful dead.
- 1st set hightlight....the whole darn set was a highlight. The music just kept building and resolving, building and resolving. All the jams had a sense of purpose. No aimless noodling. These guys can go from loud, mind bending, space like passages into those quiet, lilting, jerry-esque passages at the drop of a hat. Sless, in particular, can craft a solo's that are so interesting...not just running scales, ala, J Herring. The solos in Slipnot! where absolutely phenominal.
- Those of you who didn't make the 2nd night really missed out...the fellas really seemed to be a lot more comfortable and focused on Tuesday night. The sound was tweaked just right. From my seats in ORCH Right, Row Z, the sound was just exactly perfect. Cheers to the sound crew!
- The spirit of J Garcia is alive and well and living inside Barry Sless. The little guy definitely gets my MVP award. He is now the primary lead player...probably covering 75% of the leads. He knows all the song specific licks and runs that you expect to hear. His solos are well thought out and can go from all out insane madness to the countrified sounds of workingman's dead era GD. This was the sound I always missed with guys like Warren and Jimmy. I guess Phil missed 'em too.
- Even though Barry wins my MVP, Larry C. wasn't far behind in the voting. He can add just the right touch necessary to put a song or jam into orbit. Some of his rhythm takes on these old songs where excellent. And not only do we have his fine instrumental playing, he is also a monster vocalist. The 3 part harmonies between CR, Phil, and Larry where spot-on.
- 2nd set highlight...again, the whole friggin' set....with the absolute highest, highlight being Barry's solo turns in Slipknot!
- When the band broke into Franklin's the roof blew off the Fabulous Fox. I kid you not. The place went absolutely insane. Roll away the dew, baby.
Man, oh, man...I hope this band tours again in the spring. Judging by the smiles on everyone's faces and the near ecstatic mannerisms of the mad professor, I'd say we have a pretty good chance of seeing this ensemble again. It can only get better from here.
Viva Phil and Friends!
Three Cheers for P+F

Hip, Hip Hooray!!!!

Way to instill the true meaning of the "Friends" Phil, We all love the way we each interpret the tunes: Thats why this will go on forever, and we will always thrive for MORE!!!!!!
last night was just what i needed. you know that soul cleansing feeling you get after seeing a really hot show.
i was especially satisfied to hear two great songs the first of which i had never heard live so for me it was FINALLY the elusive MT. of The Moon...unfortunantaly Atlanta Crapped out on Phil and everyone sat down or even worse stood up and started flapping their lips...At this point i really wished i was down in the first row with RBG, Dewit (love the NJ in you), Fred and skadhi. Just great to hang with kind people and put some faces to names...always looking foward to that and seeing old friends as well.
ok back to the music
Loser was the other song that i had not heard live (since '95) really nicely done
a note about the sound, first night i sat 3rd row balcony and it was allright not much seperation, no keys ...so last night we went down to the floor behind the sound board and it was much better...searching for the sound gotta do it, case in point i prefer the balcony at the warfield.
so the first set was pretty good
nice to hear Forever Young and Watchtower, Larry does really good on the Dylan Songs for some reason
and Casey Jones is always hot no matter what the line up
As for the second set it was GRATE!!!
There was alot more lead taking with Barry and Larry trading licks , Really highlighting the guitars. i think the song selection had as much to do with that as anything.
Keyboards were solid thru out and exceptional on franklins.
Dark Star REALLY got jamming, it was great to see people who had, lets say gotten a bit unfocused during space (and trust me it was no SpaceJam...just full on raw improve SPACE) stand up and take notice as phil decided to bring us down the home stretch.
now i'm not sure if Phil has ever done Star>HSF ( i know the grateful dead haven't) ..But to hear my two favorite songs Back to Back played at such a high leval was one of the best moments of my life!
>>>The spirit of J Garcia is alive and well and living inside Barry Sless.
so true
also i swear i heard phil sing " your eyes looked from your FATHERS face"...can anyone confirm this? a clear nod to the big man
also after phil sang " if you get confused listen to the music play " the crowd busted out an impromptu " roll away...
with Chris singing the ...the dew" part 3x
i thought that was pretty funny...as was the crew wearing bath robes the first night. not sure what that was about.
Can't say enough about Molo...what a drummer
ok hear comes the critic part. i realize this is a young band and what a job they are doing.
i feel they could use some work on the intros, outtros and transistions which is maybe why you see China> no rider
Scarlet> no fire
Fire seperate as well
the intro to insperation was weak compared to the past super tight , haunting versions of past lineups
you really didn't get the big base line after the Star verses and the rippin end of slipknot
the intro to Help was pretty sick though
i'm thinking disc three of this show gets listened to alot for many years to come
phil introduced the band as if memory serves me...
seems he couldn't decide which was thunder or lighting for Chris and John
Barry was the dancer
Mookie the professor
Larry was... damn sorry Lar slipped my mind
Phil your the Story Teller ...Thanks so much
Larry was the warrior , rightfully so . That three part harmony could go places .
Great reviews - looks the perfect tour closer!
..>>.....as was the crew wearing bath robes the first night. not sure what that was about.
The Big Leshbowski..??..
..>>.....your eyes looked to your Fathers face
Poz..??..
Thanks for the reviews people..
ok, show started at 7:45pm
I expected a whistle stop opener to close the tour and Phil delivered. The loser that followed was unexpected but totally welcome. "You can tell the queen of diamonds by the way she shines." CR was doing his thing. Forever young followed, and I was three feet from phil right in front of his little box speaker listing to him sing this one with all his heart. Nearly brought tears to my eyes. He's so happy to be up there!!! The speedway that followed was soulful and sweet. Inspirational. I think Chris goofed once or twice because Phil made some really funny faces in reaction to some of his vocals on this one. Sless tore this one up. He continues to play strong in the Tumbleweed that followed, pouncing on the fretboard like a lion. He was so intent on hitting all the notes with an unwavering focus. I thought it might have been a hurricane brewing on the horizon, but it turned out to be a watchtower. nothing mindblowing, but some tight playing for sure. Once again, sless tore it up. He was so playful in his playing, bringing a sense of elation to the song. The good times continues to roll with a nice casey jones set closer. Probably an 8 in terms of intensity, they left the stage with smiles all around. Definately remember phil laughing at/with cr during this one.
Second set. Heard the truckin 100 miles away. crazy truckin. holy shit, speak of the devil...guess what just started playing on my speakers.....truckin from the hob! anyway, this truckin got the second set off on a good foot, with lots of dancing down low. great energy all around. I thought I heard a deep elem riff from LC at one point, and then I thought a Cats Down Under the Stars was coming. Great interplay at this point. All of the sudden, a subtle china cat appears in the mix and elation overcomes the crowd. Like children on a playground, everyone is bouncing about. The cosmic charlie that followed took everyone back and was a great way to move into that magic space on the moon. go on home, your mommas calling yoooooooou.
I'm missing my notes from this point on.
I remember the Inspiration care out of nowhere and hit me like a ton of bricks. Terrapin took me to a magical realm. Dark Star kept me there, somewhere in orbit watching the cosmic twirl. When the O1 started coming around, it felt like a meteor shower flying and flowing through the space that had been woven together by the magicians. And just as soon as the storm had started, it subsided, and we returned to deep space. Shall we go, you and I while we can? Words to live by.
As if it couldn't get any better, they smack us upside the head with a full-on help>slip>frank. Unfuckingbelievable. As soon as those opening chords rang out, I nearly flipped my shit and bounced threw the star ladden roof of the fox. The jamming during the help>slipknot was some of the best I've ever heard in my entire life. It was nearly impossible for them to follow up with a franklins as intense as the help. God bless them for trying, because the franklins did roll away the spell that had been cast during the second set. Jubulant and triupmphant, it capped off a night of tremendous energy interplay. Not only was there great interaction between the band members, but the energy of the crowd was impeccable. Much love for phil as he commenced the donor rap. a little love expressed for cody as well. The NFA that followed was icing on the cake. dinner had been served and now it was time to remember that the bus would be by again some other time. Love is real. Definately felt it as the show concluded. After the bow, Phil was on the sidestage and we made eye contact. I made a gesture towards my wrist and he came over towards me. Threw one wristband in to the crowd and placed the other one securely in my hand. I thanked him, proclaimed my love for life, and proceeded to get my shoes on and layer up before hitting the cold.
Found Pauly and went down to shakedown to grab a quick bite. I'm glowing. Walking into the shadiness of shakedown was somewhat sobering, but it wasn't enough to shake the silly grin off my face. I wondered a little to look at some nice tourmaline and got separated from Paul, so I called him up and found out he was going back the hotel with our friends. It's cold, and I have so much energy from the show, so I decide to run back to the room. Running for the roses along Ponce de Leon, I see a crowd of folks and figure it's a group of friends who are loading up their stuff and saying goodbye before hitting the road. I'm jogging at a good pace and all of the sudden I hear a little chear. After such a good show, it didn't strike me as odd that people might still be pumped. Sure enough, Phil pops out of the building about 5-10 feet in front of me.....as I'm running like a madman!!!! I put the breaks on just in time to avoid Phil's security who is screaming, "DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT!!!!" I realize what the situation is, and I explain to the guy "whoa, dude. sorry!!!! wrong place at the wrong time!!!" I look at the van and see CR and Phil in there. I mouth the word "thanks" as I hold up my arm with the wristband on it and then I take off again, skipping through the crowd as they waved goodbye to Phil. Needless to say I was psyched.
All in all, I had a great time. I even met a girl who makes me thank the heavens for the wonders of this world. Truly a magical couple of days.
Big thank you to Pauly for the hospitality. We met for the first time this weekend and he was kind enough to put a room over my head directly across from the fox. His coolness and generosity reflect the vibe that permeates the zone. It was nice seeing you skadhi and rev...I wish I could have met more of you, but there will be more shows!
Once again, this was the show that I will treasure above all others for the rest of my life. I truly had the best night of my life on Tuesday. I got to see my best friend since I was 2 for the second time in 8 years. We had some beers before the show, shared some laughs, and reminisced about times gone by. After the show, I got to spend time with a girl who warms my heart with but a glance. I'm sitting on top of the world.
One last thing. Soundboards of this show would be the most amazing christmas gift of all time. Thank you for everything Phil.
"Lift me up to gospel sky...."
after what i saw on monday night, i wouldn't have been surprised if, upon arriving at the fox on tuesday, the marquee read "chris robinson & friends". yes, my friends, his performance the night before was that compelling. and on tuesday, his stranglehold on the city continued.
"the real deal holyfield" returned for round 2, and this time he scored a knockout. on stage for the whole set, Chris Robinson opened up with a fantastic reading of "whistle stop", but it was after that the real magic happened. the way he sang "loser" was the best performance that song has ever seen. was "forever young" written specifically for CR to sing? sure sounded like it to me.
is tumbleweed a robert hunter song? it sure could be? if jerry were alive today, he'd LOVE that song. how about his acoustic guitar driving the jam into new speedway? UNBELIEVABLE!
maybe the finest set of music ever performed...
the second set may have been the second best set of music ever performed...
hopefully chris invites phil to be part of one of his projects, it could be an opportunity for phil to win over some new fans...
peace!
Intros were:
Chris--The Bomb!
Molo--The Volcano aka might white cloud!
Barry--The Dancer!
Mook--The Philosopher!
Larry--The Warrior!
Awesome show! Much better than Monday nite.
chris was the BARD
makes more sense and is quite accurate
y'all have described the show so wonderfully there's not much to add...
just gonna sit here in my glowy-happy place reliving the fun & the magic...
it was *so* great getting to meet ya ~ gideon & merry prankster!!!
thanks for the amazing hospitality dew & fred!!! y'all are generous beyond belief!
and the amazing upgrade rev! I can't thank you enough!!!
here is one of dew's photos... end of show... with merry prankster's wristband...
>>>>>ten years ago, when I saw him for the first time, it was all I could do to sit there for the end of the show. Rude, unprofessional, etc.
my sentiments exactly, and not having seen him with phil, i have held onto the belief. as i have worked my way thru these shows i have come to appreciate him a little more.
WHAT AN AWESOME PICTURE!!!
BIG SIS SKADS.. SO GLAD TO HAVE YOU BACK ON THE PROPER SIDE OF THE POND
BEYOND GLAD THAT YOU GOT TO RIDE THE PHIL MAGIC CURRENT!!!!
Hollis, some of my fave shows of the year are Crowes performances.
Trippy, Tumbleweed is a NEM song, written by CR.
Skads is without doubt, a very great houseguest...take her in folks, if she gets on the road. Not good people; she's great people.
Great reviews all.
I agree with the CR/Dylan thing. Ever since I saw the PLE back last Dec. And the Band songs too. Chris seems to have internalized Dylan songs - it doesn't seem forced or mimicky. This Wheel's On Fire and Hurricane were top-notch...and have gits ta hear that Forever Young, I can only imagine!
my dream is seeing a phil lesh & phriends show!!!
come to spain!!!
beautiful reviews all, congratulations
a cordial greeting
welcome aboard, Jano! Rumor has it Phil will be doing a summer tour. You should think about coming over to the states for a few shows. I'm sure some zoners could show you s good time. feliz navidad!
