The curfew at Tweeter aka Great Woods is definately 11 p.m. I would not be surprized if Phil comes on at 8:30 as scheduled.

I put this together from the post here and from the partial list posted in Other Stuff. Note that the poster here notes a GDTRFB coming out of the Rider. Anyone there care to straighten out what went down?

Mike Gordon was on Electric Banjo for Deep Elem and Brown Eyed Women. Deep Elem was killer - Larry sang all the verses. Whole first set was great - Golden Road was very intense. The set had a very bluesy feel. Barry played pedal steel the whole first set and was not on stage for the whole second set. Trey played the whole second set and the GDTRFB encore but was not on stage for the Box of Rain encore.

Yeah that sounds about right for the setlist and second that vote on Deep Elem Blues was the highlight of the first set for me. Doin' that Rag was cool too Barraco nailed it for sure.

Second set was extremely powerful from Help>Slip right thru to Franklin's Tower the band was fireing on all cylinders. Larry was smokin'... Joan was just hot in more ways than one ;) Barraco a pleasure as always...Molo was well...Molo...Osby definately added alot of texture and Phil well what more can I say. Oh yeah even Trey was in the groove ( he does make alot of funny faces tho )

Nice to see Doin That Rag w/ Rob on vocals making its way back into the repetoire (unless I'm behind). That second set Help to Franklins looks real nice.

Well done. Great show end to end.
It was fantastic to turn around during the second set and see the entire "Great Woods" crowd up and dancing. The band was on and the crowd was riding the wave. I did miss Barry Sless during set 2 but Trey was ripping and for the most part not over indulging himself. Wish I could catch a few more!

I think pretty much the bottom line here is that this band KICKS ASS!!! I really wish I could have caught this one, I missed Brown-Eyed Women again!

So whats the deal? it seems that Sless and trey are never on stage together... is there Beef between them?

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of page Link to this message  By Larry -o (Larryo) on Friday, July 07, 2006 - 12:33 pm: Edit Post

I wouldn't know of any Beef, it is probably just a little crowded sound sometimes. I did not listen to Camden... Trey stepped on pedal for SPAC Wheel, which would have featured BarryS beautifully, or maybe Trey's style was not laid back right for that song? But it would seem BarryS on pedal steel and Trey on guitar and LarryC on fiddle/mando could work for at least a couple of songs!?

I thought Phil kept the new guy, LarryC, onstage in FEB when guests came, as BarryS had played much more with Phil prior. But I am shocked that BarryS is not playing any guitar this tour, so far. The pedal is not always loud enough for some songs (or guitar would just be better). Let us recall that it was Barry on guitar trading licks with Scofield in Albany!! what if LarryC once sat out set2 and Trey could trade licks with Barry on guitar, or maybe half a set with Larry and half with Barry (or half with Trey and half without).

I was at Providence and pleased to hear/LarryC on pedal steel for one song... very nice job, then surprised Barry finished set1 on pedal only. Happy he was switching between guitar and pedal for set2. Let Barry play guitar!

Come on. Larry is the best player up there. If anyone sits out it should be Trey.

Sless' steel guitar on Stephen would sound fantastic...
Has he played anything but steel on this tour?
I really enjoyed his electric guitar work last fall.

>Come on. Larry is the best player up there.<

I agree, but outside of Watchtower, where Larry & Trey couldn't seem to figure out who was going to do what, they finally put it together.

When the music meshes like that, who cares who is better than who..it's all opinon anyway.

In retrospect, it was one of the best nights of music I've ever heard. The music all night long was incredibly tight, especially Phil's 1st set.

Loved it.

I've been seeing shows since 1970 and I always long for a good GD fix. Last night at Tweeter in Mansfield was the best dose of GD I've had in a long time. There will never be another Jerry but last night Trey stepped up big! The first set was great and the second set they tore it up!

Big kudos to Phil for playing the music and keeping the sound going in the tradition of the Grateful Dead.

Trey stepped up like you need to, he ripped into the songs like a lead guitar player should. That's what I've missed so much since Jerry's passing I could enjoy the music but in my mind I could hear something missing. Kudos to Trey for filling that void. I'd like to see Trey keep playing with Phil to be part of the whole. If he could keep his ego in check.

Many thanks to my friend Dead Head Ed for hosting our party it was outstanding!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'll 2nd the above post from Mr. Kooris.
Best Dead Family show I have heard/experienced since the first set of 11-21-01 at the Orpheum w/ the quintet. (close second is Hartford from the previous July 2001). Point being, this band gave it's all last night, sounded great, and for the most part the crowd gave it right back!

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of page Link to this message  By Bob Meader (Bobby_from_ct) on Tuesday, July 11, 2006 - 05:46 pm: Edit Post

Hartford 2001 was way better than this show!

A good solid show but this was definately the Trey "hometown rocker" show.

Made the Jones Beach show that much sweeter, just a night later for the psychedelic show.

Meant Hartford was 2nd to that aforementioned 11-21-01. Oh' Hell, most of what I've ever seen from Phil is great ; )
