The day of the show and no thread yet? wtf people? Is no one excited?
Downtown looks peaceful this morning, deff not ready for what phil will surely birng. Only a 20% chance of rain, hot, but at least we don't move it inside and be evan hotter and tightly packed. I like a few things tightly packed, just not my venues.
15 more min of caffine, 8 houres of work, then it's Phil time baby.
I can't wait! I hope the rain stays away because I don't want this show inside.
I'm excited!
I'll be sad if we move inside
If we did, there'd be A/C, it wouldn't be that hot. But inside holds fewer people than outside, not sure how they'd handle that if the show is nearly sold out. Promowest packed to the gills isn't too much fun.
not many of these shows have sold out, if any. Not sure about the ones before holmdel nj, but all the shows after holmdel there were tickets available. So you should be ok.
its my b-day have a great show, last b-day show 7-14-i forget what year alpine valley w/ s.c.i. les claypool's frog brigade & phil w/ warren great time then drove to deer creek...what was phils set list that night?
Anyone have a extra ticket they want to get rid of at the last minute the show is not sold out, but my budget is pretty weak right now would drive from Dayton, but must know by 6:00.
I just got a call from my good friend Paul who is at the show. They opened with Althea > The Other One

you are welcome! This is fun...
I am just a plain old Rob... but enjoying this! Although some of my best friends are tapers.
Lifestyle Communities Pavillion???? I thought it was Pomo West.
Sounds like either a retirement home or a swingers club!
Promo West Productions is involved...
holy c songs
Is Barry playing pedal steel only or is he playing guitar?
>>holy c songs
a coincidence or a conspiracy of C songs?
if there's china cat, cassidy, china doll, comes a time, crazy finegers and cumberland for set two, I"ll go with the conspiracy theory
Rob Scalcione is no wookie on hippie crack -- he is seriously wired in -- nice to see you on the Zone Scalc.
Hellooo...

Where is BARRY SLESS????????
he played, they just didn't list it.
Here are my initial impressions of last night:
This was a good show, I'm glad I went. First set was about 55 minutes, second set plus donor rap/encore was 1:45. The venue wasn't sold out, and there was plenty of room to dance. I had a great view of the band the whole night.
I don't know if this will go down in history as one of the great P&F shows ever, but it was a solid evening of music, with many nice moments scattered through each set. The sound where I was was good, favoring Phil and Larry Campbell. I could hear Rob (who wore a headband), Barry, and Greg the best when they were soloing.
Larry gets my vote for show MVP. He got more feature time, but everybody got opportunities to shine. Barry Sless fans will love his solos on "China Doll" and "The Wheel," very nice playing from him. Greg Osby did some nice work on "Unbroken Chain." He didn't play on every song. Joan looked very tasty indeed and sang beautifully all night. I really liked her vocals on the GD "Candyman." It was nicely funky. Phil looked happy as all get out and played like the genius he is.
Go Phil!!!!!!!!
word up on Osby sounding great during Unbroken Chain and also on the smoking Watchtower, he was jamming all over that... Cold Roses was nice in the first set, I thought it was going to go back into Other One cuz I don't think they ever finished Other One... GD Candyman was a remade upper tempo version, w/ Joan really making it her own, it was nice to hear another song totally revamped yet still sound classic, a sweet groove... I like most of the Ryan Adams songs, but I'm not so sure about Nobidy Girl... gets a little redundant w/ the chorus... but the band sounded really tight all night and it was a very fine show... not so familiar w/ a Little Piece for You, who knows where that comes from?
"little piece" - pretty sure Hunter/lesh collaboration. broke it out on "the Dead" tour. not played a lot then. Phil throws it in occasionally.
A great looking show om paper - interested to hear more from people there......
HEADBAND!
~`~
All of the musicians were amazing......and not to specify two mountains in a range of equal peaks, but I'd love to see a Larry Campbell and Joan Osbourne collaberation do some gigs
dude, that first set looks amazing!!
the second ain't too shabby either!
This was my only show on this tour and i was definetly satisfied. The first set was smokin and china doll was sweat. My friend was out early to vend and Rob Borocco was on the lot being really friendly.
here's some more of my reflections on last night. I was bummed earlier in the week cuz I had to eat tix to the Scranton show because of the death of a close family friend, my dad's longtime secretary, who at one time was sort of like a second mom to me. But I hadn't seen her in awhile... anyway funeral was on tuesday... so for the band to open the 2nd set w/ Birdsong, was very touching to me. And then to take that into Watchtower, which has been a real personal song ever since Phish encored it w/ Buddy Miles and Merl Saunders at my birthday show at MSG in 96... this was really special, I was real close to the front at that point, and the band was en fuego... China Doll sounded good, but the ending trio of Unbroken>Wheel>China>Rider was really sweet. That is just classic GD right there, and it was super kind.
and yeah, the first set was excellent. It has been hella hot in Ohio so Althea an approp opener and then a real surprise to get Other One there, though i beleive they never sang the last verse, so watch for that in Indy...
I would also add that this Lifestyles Pavilion in Columbus is a fantastic venue - its just a pit w/ a little lawn behind that, very intimate, not a bad spot in the house, low key security presence, really kind venue that I just discovered seeing SCI and Phil this week. It is so kind in fact that I am going to pass on Black Crowes at Tower City Amp in Cleveland (much closer to Kent) and see the Crowes at this venue instead, even though its an extra hour drive. Tower City is one of the worst venues around as far as ambience, its just a tent over a parking lot, so you don't even get those nice summer breezes. Big thumbs up for Lifestyles Pavilion...
oh yeah, and the one other thing that I wanted to say after hearing that Piece for You is a new song debuted in 2003, is where's All That We Are? I saw them play that at Irvine 03 and was floored - that is a kickass song and Joan really sounds great on it, so why is not in the repetoire now??????????
Official field report…there was a pre-show huddle between band members that lasted at least five minutes…discussing possibilities…framework… etc. Althea was solid …smokey…went into the Other One with a bit of a Wharf Rat tease…the Other One was full-blown…signature entrance…big bass riff…Phil grimace…Cold Roses evolved out of a re-occurring Wharf Rat riff…Cryptical was delivered with grace…the Cold Roses reprise flowed seamlessly. That portion of the show could theoretically had been an ending segment…the rulebook has been deep sixed. The Candyman Suite was enjoyable with the Hunter-Garcia Candyman carrying the weight…very different from any Grateful Dead version…Casey Jones was frenzied…nitroed… a balls to the wall set finale.
Second set: poignant Birdsong…ensemble vocal ending…got everyone’s attention…dead start on Watchtower…no stop till the sets end…Nobody Girl was well delivered, yet the China Doll made the evening…especially how it contrasted with the Unbroken Chain that followed. Best Unbroken Chain I’ve witnessed hands down…the middle jam cycled through twice…hitting on all cylinders…very punchy…The Wheel was powerful…no beat was missed…China >Rider was a great way to end the evening. A Little Piece for You helped me out the door.
Other bits and pieces: crowd was very kind…air was dank…Osby played the beginning of the first set, and the entire second set. Sless was on pedal steel the entire night. Joan was the Lady in red. Phil was very animated, especially during the preshow huddle, and the Other One.
There was a short Dear Prudence sequence in front of the China Cat, along with numerous other teases and interjected riffs. The diversity of this evening should be noted, and makes seeking a recording of this night worthwhile.
Keep On Keepin’ On!
Thank you Todd Oaks for the review! Very much appreciated! The set list looked great and your review assured it --

Nice reviews! Looks like a fabulous show. . . .
I left the show feeling extremely satisfied. I listed to the Instant Live on my way home yesterday and all I can say is out-fuckin-standing! That Other One, second song into the first set, just blew me away. Very heavily jammed before Phil even laid down the initial bomb. I enjoyed the jam from that to Cold Roses into Cryptical back into Cold Roses, but after hearing it again I really appreciate it. Hightlight of the first set was The Other One and the Mississippi John Hurt "Candyman Blues" that Rob just did a fantastic job on. Not sure I like the new sped up version of "Candyman."
Second set picked right up. Bird Song had a wonderul rolling groove to it and straight into a very tightly played Watchtower. I can't even pick a second set highlight. Nobody Girl>China Doll> Nobody Girl...wow! That is a perfect combo there, Phil knew what he was doing when he put that together. Forced to choose, Unbroken Chain is the highlight for me. Wonderul jams, all very tight, Osby did a great job. Loved the >Wheel>China>Rider too, fun as hell and really got everyone moving. A Little Piece For You isn't an encore song in my opinion but at that point, I had my Phil.
Had trouble hearing Sless at most points, but he is pretty clear on the Instant Live. Phil was perfectly loud and clear all night, pulsating my chest. So glad Molo and Rob are still on board with Phil. Love watching those guys play.
Told myself before the show that if I wasn't impressed, I would eat or freebie my Louisville ticket and not make the trip. Lets just say I'm headed to Louisville (and thus why I'm stuck working in the office on Sunday).

Thanks Jeff ;^)
nice pix-that place looks like a freaking prison yard!
Holy s@%t! I'm listening to the stream from the Lama and this show smokes. I like the focus of having a phil-only show. Too much happening before with GRAB and the Duo.
This watchtower is AWESOME!!!
Phil, come back in the fall, please!
A couple negative notes about the venue:
1) I hate the "box" seat concept at an outdoor venue. Look at the pixs of the empty row of tables that buffer the down front area and the lawn. Looks like the upper class did not show up for this performance.
2) How about spending a few $s to make the sides of the stage look less like an industrial warehouse? Maybe a curtain with some cool colors or graphics to soften the view.
3) The best out door venue in Ohio is Cleveland Heights Cain Park. It would be great to see a Dead project try and give this venue a shot. It was a great stop for Bela Fleck for many years and the venue & community its self are very friendly.
