What's the over/under on Joan acknowledging her old home town?

Well, technically she is from Anchorage, Ky. Which is just a bit outside of Louisville.

Still, nonetheless, we are making her a BIG "Welcome Home Joan!" sign to hold up for her.

Along with one that says, "Welcome Back, Phil!"
It has been a long 5 years since he played here last..................sure have missed him.

Hoping for that Cumberland Blues, and of course my dream of all dreams;

CREAM PUFF WAR!!!!

Technically, Anchorage is withing the city limits, about 15 miles east of Downtown, for all those realists out there!

Just got in from Chicago, and I am too wired to sleep. I can't wait for the Palace! I love this venue, and I have seen some great shows there. Phil is going to rock!

We have some goodies "due" in the rotation: Dark Star, Caution, New Speedway,Morning Dew, HSF, Wheel's on Fire (this is also my own personal wishlist i have to admit). Regardless, it's going to be a great time. Go Phil!

I saw Jerry and the boys play Freedom Hall in 1989 and they busted out Louie Louie, It Must Have Been the Roses, and Ramble on Rose.........all a tribute to the history of Churchill Downs etc. It was fantastic and I am hoping for some of the same, possibly Run For the Roses!

I cannot wait to see Phil jam again. I also have a third row pit seat for face value that I will gladly sell you..........call me at 513.708.2560. Chris

He's been starting within 5 or 10 minutes of the advertised times on this tour. No opening act, so I would guess 7:05pm.

Yeah, and some places open back up at 6am. They even have benches out front for the "regulars" who wait until it opens again (I'm thinking of "The Tavern" on Gaulbert and 4th St).

2nd. set. loved it!

First set clocked in around 55 minutes. A little disappointing, but some solid tunes. Second set kicked serious ass.

The encore was a bit anticlimatic. I wasn't familiar with the song at all, but it has a Kentucky reference for Joan. A nice touch since it was her homecoming but I would've preferred a Dead tune. Sorry.

Good show, great venue. I love the Palace Theater. High energy show, Phil was grinning nonstop all night. Great sound mix - FINALLY I could hear the pedal steel and/or sax without having to struggle through a wall of sound. "Mr. Charlie" was a first set highlight for me.

The second set was an awful like the Columbus show, lots of repeats. Having said that, the performance was smoking! Who cares what they play if they are playing this well? Lotsa jams/teases. I'm too tired to go into details. Get the disks. Go Phil!!

Lot Scene:
Wide Wide Wide open...never saw a cop, saw everything else including a wookie battle for 12 bux around midnight. Tanks (unfortunately), and all the beer and other treats one could wish for...I left the lot around 1 a.m. and it was still raging.

Venue: What can you say this venue is beautiful and the sound is really good. Not a bad seat in the house. The floor was pretty much sold out, the balcony was hard to see from my perspective of the 3rd row. Security was a little heavy keeping peeps out of the walkways, grabbed a couple spliffs, but pretty much a mellow scene, and there was re-entry so everyone left for a setbreak smoke treat in the lot...

Show: Set1: A solid set, a bit shorter than INDY which made no sense bcuzz indy was outdoors in the sun and it was 94. Solid tight playing all around, Sless and Osby mixed better in this indoor venue. Joan was off stage for the 1st couple tunes then she came on to a huge roar from here homies...BEW was a highlight for me, it was played at a fast tempo, Cambell really shredded this one fo sho...Sugaree was pretty good too with solos all around...some nice keyboard work on Jed as well.

Set2: PHILLLLLL!!!!!! Cryp>OtherONe>Wheel>Rider.............nuff said!!! this sandwich was ON FIRE...was a little bummed to see He's Gone again, twice in 3 shows, but the Other One made up for it, plenty of PHIL BOMBS here, and Larry came back in with those power chords ala Jerry Winterland Other One from 78 egypt with love shows...nice...GDTRFB seemed a little tacked on the end as the band looked ready to walk and then played this tune...a slower version that was not that grate IMO, the ENCORE was pretty damn dissapointing, this is my last show of the tour and end with that tune????
I don't get it AT ALL! But overall I was Philled up with good stuff and would pay 52.50 again anyday to see Phil drop bombs in my hometown...
GO PHIL Go Go GO PHILLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!
we luv you JOan!!!!!!

Never thought I would leave a Phil show as disappointed as I was last night. I felt like they never took off, especially in the first set. Listened to the Instant Live on the way home today and I still feel that way. Tennessee Jed is my least favorite GD tune next to Casey Jone and Friend of the Devil isn't too far behind so maybe that didn't help. But I've always been a believer in the setlist doesn't make the show. I've seen some not so hot on paper shows that blew me away musically but last night wasn't one of them.

The first set ends and I'm thinking I can't even pick a highlight (energy level in the place felt really low, folks sitting down after three tunes, we needed a smoking Cumberland or something)so fingers crossed Phil will break out the big guns for set 2. Columbus was the only other show I saw on the tour. Now I wish I would have hit the Indy show and skipped this show. Six repeats from the Columbus show (third prior show this past Friday, and a three hour drive from Louisville). I was suprised when Watchtower came out of He's Gone, thinking wow they're bringing this back pretty quick from Friday. Then came Nobody Girl, Cryptical, Other One and I'm thinking whats going on here. Couldn't beleive it when The Wheel came around and by the time I Know You Rider started up I was thinking this is redgoddamndiculous. Every song in the 2nd set except for He's Gone and GDTRFB was played three nights ago.

To me, the band just seemed to be off all night and really never found their footing. Especially in the 2nd set. At one point a crew member put a piece of paper in front of Barry then Phil. Then Rob motioned to Joan and whispered something to her then she went and told Phil. Then there was a long pause after I Know You Rider before they headed into GDTRFB. Again, second set really can't pick a highlight next to Barry's playing on Cryptical and The Other One.

I love the Ryan Adams tunes but three, including the encore is too much imo. I really love Sweet Carolina, probably one of my favorite Ryan Adams tunes, but don't feel its an encore song (similar to Little Piece For You in Columbus). The crowd gave approval after Joan sang the line about missing Kentucky

I thought Barry did an excellent job on the pedal steel all night. He gets the MVP from me.

Sorry for the negative review but I was really let down. The lights came on and I just stood staring at the stage still wanting to be satisfied. There's no such thing as a bad Phil show and it was still great to see them rocking but I just didn't feel a thing last night. That venue is a masterpiece though I will say that and the Bluegrass Pale Ale they have on tap their is excellent.

I had a terrific time. The crowd around us was genuine and warm and friendly and rocked all night.

There was a fat jam out of wheels of fire with help and slip teases within....a highlight, as with Mr. Charlie. Joan is nice on that one. Liked her contribution throughout. Couldn't hear sless that well except solos, but Phils tone!!!!!!! Gaaawwwdddd that was nice.

did not do columbus, so the repeats werent there for me...the cryp>o1>wheel>rider was great. The extra verses in fotd and gdtrfb->something like like my feet so big my shoes cost 10$ sung bu larry --those were cool. the doubletime by molo during sugaree really brought the climax home for me.

The lack of light show was interesting as I was able to focus on the music. I thought the band had a great time and phil and joan esp seemed pumped.

The encore was nice, but you all are right, I would have rather heard Help>slip>Caution instead...

peace,
Chris

>>>The lack of light show was interesting

I noticed that too. They didn't have that backdrop that they have been using for the other shows. I reckon Phil was letting the beauty of The Palace handle those duties.

All I have to say is that I had a great time, considering I bought a ticket in the lot for $10, and it was in the 3rd row!!! Sorry to the folks that turned down the other ticket, thinking it was a scam!! It was also cool realizing that my new phone is also a camera, so I got some cool pics! I'm a big fan, but certainly far from being on tour, and so despite what some say about being disappointed...well, I had a blast!!

Good to meet you Unbroken Mike (fennario)....

Gotta say this Louisville show was like the Ken kesey show in 01 where the setlist was def not as up to par as the performance.

KC setlist....wow.

btw, those faces are all historical folks, not just random faces. there is beethoven, mozart, zeus, mercury, etc....

and the birds flying around the rooftops on the facade buildings inside are actual stuffed doves suspended by wirs to make them look like they are flying.

This venue is the coolest indoor venue east of the missippi....sorry but I have been to both Foxes also, but my opinion stands.

Chris

I hope Phil plays again with Barry Sless, in the future, and that he allows him to play lead 'jerry' like guitar, again, as he did in '05, many times and especially in Atlanta, dec.

This show was a serious cerebral jam type show with a huge cryptical>o1. Not split up. The whole second set could have been listed as a Dark Star Jam.
