Well, since it's only a day away...
Leaving the cities tomorrow morning to get up to Detroit Lakes. massive fires going on up there (Boundry Waters area), so I bet it's gonna be hazy. Right now the forecast looks good though.
Trey plays the following day...wonder if he'll be there tomorrow night to sit it? There is a Dylan rumor floating around as well.
Can't wait!
Wish List of tunes:

Cosmic Charlie/Mr Charlie (we'll have our 6mos old Charlie with us)

Ty gdad, I've been watching u. U are truly a friend of the community. "For the greater good of our collective and ongoing group mind, vibe, and innoscent ideals that we aspire to, thank you for helping us, -(those who can't be there in body, but can be heard, felt, and inspired by this genre of music).
And yes i do consider GD music a genre of its own. As undefinable as it may be, I have to admit, Greatful Dead music is truly in a class of its own. I don't know - for sure - why these songs, vibes, nuances, etc., make me feel so overwhelmingly connected. But they do! Connected to who or what - I don't know. Certainly not anything "formal", although I can't help contributing my two cents. I think it's more of a spirit - a spirit that is morally, and aesthetic pleasing to those who can understand and/or interpret the raw emotion that goes into any old tune - and in our case - musical and likeminded journey.
Please bear with me I'm a little sideways right now. TY _ CR

Are there any reviews? That setlist looks wicked.
The entire show was amazing, I still can't really comprehend it all. I was right in front, on the boards in front of Sless. Stella Blue broke my heart and made me fall in love with the girl next to me, someone I had never met before the set break. So amazing, hopefully I'll be able to collect my thoughts after hearing it again.
The show was off the hook. . . the bombs be a flying!!!! one after another. The band really LARRY MOLO ROB OSBY let it all out.Joans soul full voice wow wow wow!!! Barry was so out of the mix it mad me a little sad. whatS up with that? TURN BARRY UP!!! Had an 11 hour trip in the car back to montana listened to the show 2 time. man i'll tell you the "stella" "lazy river" "china cat" >"eleven" made the show for me. please please. have a fall tour PHIL !!!!!!!
That good eh..??..
Phil 'The Kid' Lesh once again festies up
ok...so here's what i recall.
after a fabulous meal at our fabulous campsite with our fabulous friends and neighbors (catching a theme yet? it's pervasive...), we walked in during the opening strains of Cumberland. right out of the gate i could feel phil...which is always a good thing. the setlist and energy were great.
a nod to st.paul w/ the big river, and a RA tune, both well done. The highlight of the first set though was definitely wheel>Shakedown. my wife micky called the wheel early on, once they had landed on the C jam and were migrating towards to cadence. sounded great...and some serious phil bombs dropped. we worked our way up front for shakedown/passneger, and it was great fun. i was really happy w/ the layer that osby added...nice full texture.
2nd set was just rocking all the way through. some flubs on the stella (larry lost his way a bit during the solo), but all told...just fantastic energy.
and THAT is the crux of it...Larry Campbell's energy. just terrific. not a lot of unneccesary noodling...he is down to business. there were limitations to his explatory 2nd set playing, but the whole show he was loud and in charge. he was great.
try to post more later, even some photos. it was a fabulous show, and a fabulous event. really. we got obliterated by a brownie on saturday, so i don't recall much of the day, other than chilling to MMW in the tent. scary stuff.
Thanks phil...that was worth the 3 year wait (9/03).
Just pulled into town after a great two day run at the Fest and a couple days recovery at a friends cabin in Northern Minnesota. First off, this was a great festival! Diverse lineup, practically no hassles, good food on site, and set up so you could roam around and catch a number of acts when the Main Stage was not in use. My apologies to the Zoners who met on Thursday before the Cheese, as we immediately went to the front, I never got the chance to say high.
Anyhoo, I'll post a review of the other shows in the other bands review section but I must say I was blown away by Umphrees,The Mutyator(one of the wildest sets I've ever seen), Kimock - Perkins(holy shit Batman, no wonder Jane's Addiction was so good! The Perk is the real deal, now when is he going to get Watt and the real Banyan to one of these hippie fests!? Although Reed Mathis was excellent on the bass),and Shooter Jennings was a great mix of hard country, Southern Rock, and some soulful Charlie Rich style country when he played the electric piano for three songs in the middle of his set. The only band that did not do it for me was Railroad Earth. Jesus Christ guys, could you move the stick shift out of second gear for just one jam? Their fluffy psuedo Celtic shit brought out plenty of folks but I guess the blend of that guy's voice( a cross bewteen Larry Kirwan of Black 47 and Alex Been of The Call) and the turgid jams just didn't float my boat.
That being said, let's get to the review of the Big Kahuna himself and his band of merry mirth makers! Opening with a nice rumbling jam the boys ripped into Cumberland before Joan came out and added some soulful Bonnie Bramlett type harmonies to Larry's lead vocal on Big River. On both of these rollicking numbers Phil's bubbling brook bass kept the flow while Larry really rocked his solos hard! Lazy River Road and Cold Roses really showcased the abilities that Joan has brought to this band - the soulful, sultry vocals, the commanding stage presence; the overall warm vibe that she exudes to the crowd. A beautiful, extended Wheel led to the first Phil Bomb of the night as they jammed out of Wheel into Shakedown. Now SCI had some good dancing down on the floor for their show on Thursday and with Keller Williams before Phil but when Phil hit that monster, it was on! The dance floor continued to build in presssure until the band extended out the jam into a blistering, playful Passenger to end set one.
Now let's get to the business of the second set - all I can say is ouch!! Breaking out with the Saint Stephen into the Dark Star(1st Verse) was pure magic. The Stars Turn Blue was just plain beatiful! Joan did a great job with this song - her vocals were on the mark and the yearning and longing in her voice melded beautifully with the lyrics. Second verse of the DStar led into a frenzied jam that eventually wound its way into Rob on the lead vocal for a stellar China Cat that segued into a ripping The Eleven. Joan took back over for an intense and soulful Stella Blue that gave everyone a little breather for the big ending of Help-Slip-Franklin's which Larry and Phil and Osby just tore the shit up on! This was pure fun in the Vista Cruiser, darting, penetrating leads and fills brought the energy to peak after peak.
After a great Donor Rap and band intro the band lit into Trucking for the encore. I heard a little picky Deadhead grumbling at first until Phil levelled the fucking place with at least 10 and more like 12 or 14 full throttled bombs that just devasted the place. I mean this was like 85 or 86 era when it seemed like the PA was about to blow and they just blurted like some kind of gunshot from the Gods - I hope this was an omen or foreshadowing for a fall tour! If not, they certainly ended the Summer Tour on a high note; leaving the crowd happy and wanting more!
ok, this was my day, waited a long time and for good reason, started at 8am,worked all day in the corner of the northwoods campground doing what i do best, when a call came on the radio, they (FACE) needed some extra help in the VIP food area, I eventually said yes, from 5>>7, actually washed the pans and spoons and such, ate my free meal, burger, potato salad, lettuce salad with everything i could pile on, i need them fresh veggies, so I run from vip to my site, uptop of the hill overlooking HWY59 and across from lake salie, changed my shirt and what not, then back to the venue, i just wandered down the center isle and stepped to my right and just leaned on the fence, just catching my breath and smiling from what was about to happen when i look up and standing on the other side of the fence, MrsP,
SERENDIPITY!!!
i asked her where she was watching the show from, she just turned and pointed behind her to her husband and group, i knew it was gonna get stranger, soon as the show started Mr P kinda gestured me to join him , i gave him a thanks but not now and when lazy river started i was getting weak, exausted and finally being in the moment, then Cold Roses was played, that took me deeper into bliss but i was starting to fall asleep, i hated to do it but i need some air in my blood, so i walked back to my site, drank a 16 oz energy drink and finished the 1st set from my camp chair, in the shade, with a cool breeze, i was able to hear the music pretty good,
well it worked very well, so i headed back to the show and got a little small talk going during the break, second set starts and from that moment, St. Stephen with a rose, everybody looked at each other and we knew then, it was on! and the coolest thing, some fan i heard was walking thru the crowd with a HUGE green laser pointer during Dark Star, i swear that lite touched the stars, next thing , mrsP say's 'I think I hear a china cat' she is so smart, her husband and twins are so lucky, then after her extended break(Joan) walks on stage, i leaned over and said,"i never opened the "songs that joan owns" thread so i have no idea what she might sing, and for her to sing a song that has a special place in many hearts, mine included, it was perfect, it sounded GOOD, the H/S/F to end the set was amazing,
and words cannot express what it felt like to hear "Truckin", and what a long strange trip it was!
and it was over, so many smiling faces, all i could say was WE got the good stuff, plenty of Rob singing, Larry just absolutely tore it up,it was nice to have the whole band play the whole show, end of 2006 summer tour, it doesn't get any better than that,
and my new friends in the corner of northwoods behind the saloon along the walkway to the disk coarse, said,
"during Truckin last nite, you could FEEL the ground shake!"
bless the Phil BOMBS!!
yea this show was off the hook.i thought i was about to lose it during the wheel>shakedown.......completly psychedelic this show was my 5th phil show and they just seem to keep getting better.peace
Why are there no SBDs for this show?
Turn up Barry! Let him stand up and rip

Nothing but the sunlight will help you grow
From underneath your bed you can't see the window
We don't choose what we see
We don't choose
Fortunate and angry just like a child
All that money buys you medicine but can't buy you time
We don't choose what we love
And she don't need what she got
Daylight comes and exposes
Saturday's bruises and cold roses
Cold roses

Hell Yeah! They pulled out all the stops for this one. Barry's so great on electric, but I love him on steel all night too. Very different show, reminds me of a good Bob Dylan show of late.
I was front row center against the gate right in front of Jan. This was the most amazing night of my entire life. Both sets were amazing, every note was incredible. Durring the second set I broke down and cryed. I've never been so happy in my entire life. Magic happend this night.

*** an addition to my last post.
Words dont even come close to being able to discribe phils sets. I waiting all day at my camp in the shade due to the fact that it was so bloody hot. I wanted to be rested and ready for the night. The keller williams incident opened with a great set. The evening couldnt have been more perfect, light wisps of clouds were streached acrossed the sky. The temperature dropped enough to be comfertable. I was front row center against the gate right in front of Joan. This was the most amazing night of my entire life. Both sets were amazing, every note was incredible. Durring the second set I was so overcome with joy I broke down and cryed. I've never felt like that in my entire life. Magic happend this night. My life will has never and will never be the same.
