Dude - you missed one for the ages. What a scorcher!!

Here's the Los Lobos setlist - they set the bar REALLY high...

* The Neighborhood
* Luz De Mi Vida
* The Town
* Dont Worry Baby
* Short Side of Nothing
* Dream in Blue
* Chucos Cumbia
* The Valley
* The Road To Gila Bend
* *Not Fade Away>
* *Bertha
---

Encore:
* *Mas y Mas

*-w/Warren Haynes on guitar

Great opener w/ The Neighborhood.

Thank you Lord for another day,
Help my brother along his way.
Please, bring, peace to the Neighborhood...

By the time they hit Luz De Mi Vida, my wife and I had abandoned our loge seats and headed up to the Sarcophogas for dance space. Next thing you know, here are Jojo and WOF to join us :-)

For me, Dream in Blue and Chuco's Cumbia were highlights... Sock it to me one time :-O

After tearing it up themselves, then they asked Warren to come up and join them. NFA>Bertha rocked hard and the Mas Y Mas encore lit the house on fire!

Ed Ferbel will tell you that when I talked to him at 11:00 yesterday morning, the one thing I said I wanted was for Steve Berlin to bring that big honking baritone sax out to join the Mule, and he, along w/ Jimmy Vivino (who I'd just seen the other night w/ the Fab Faux...) came out w/ a tribute to the Godfather (R.I.P. Brother James), with a fon-kay Doin' It To Death (Gonna have a funky good time - I wanna take you hiiiiiiiiigher!!), into Superstitious, and then they switched out Jimmy and Steve for Cesar Rojas with a TWLWMYD that was off the hook. Mike W, just before TWLWMYD came by again, asking "Are they going one long set, or is this a first set for the ages??"

We all met up in the lobby a bit slackjawed at the incredible set, and as we heard playing start up again headed back to our seats. Missed a bit of Child of the Earth, but was in place in time for Slackjawed. Then the Mule calls up David Hidalgo and... OMG Little Wing was stunning, then they just CRUSHED Politician. Andy Hess was great and fluid and funky all night, highlighted by 3 String George.

Is it just me, or do Andy Hess and WOF look an awful lot alike? :-O:-O

Loved Effigy and Mule, but when Jimmy came back out again for the encores, we wondered where it would go. Wow! Hide Your Love Away was great, and then Bang! Helter Skelter to send us off into the night.

I'm jealous of all of you who are going to be there for the next two nights, but if you missed this one, then you missed a rager. Hopefully, Muletaper got it all :-)

It was a veritable who's who of NE Zoners, as well as folks from all over. Skahdi and John repping the south, Hans Bluecreek from the West Coast, the NY crazies, PeggyO, Huck, SI, WOF, RosieOBobnweave, Lites, ALthea, Keyshawn (good to meetcha, dood!), Eddie Ferbel, GotJorma, MarkP, Bluestnote and family (man, his kid got a LESSON last night), and many others.

THanks everyone, and, one more time...

WOW!

>>>>s it just me, or do Andy Hess and WOF look an awful lot alike?

I was thinking the exact same thing!!! That dude can play.

Amesome, awesome show! Los Lobos is the fuckin shit. Those guys are some amazing musicians. Totally unique music. Very complex rythymns.

Mule kicked ass. The first set in particular left my mind totally shattered. Probably the best Mule set I've seen. I couldn't take sitting down any more (how could people NOT dance to Mule doing James Brown? I mean come on!) so went up the very top, last row and let loose.

Second set I was wiped out from two sets of amazing music, running out of steam thanks to an annoying cold. Maybe thats why i had a hard time focusing during Matts drum solo which I could have done without. However, second set highlights were the songs with Hidalgo and man, oh, man HELTER SKELTER!!!! That song alone was worth the price of admission!! It was off the charts insanity.

Good to see a few zoners last night. In particular, a thanks to the dude who bought me a drink before we'd even been introduced - a NYC schoolteacher living in Cypress Hills. Forget your name,(Isaac?) but real nice meeting you and I owe ya a drink!

NOTE: written hours ago, but never posted, sorry for duplicate info

really nice show, thought I'd add a few thoughts...

first of all, los lobos was great, don't have time right now to piece together the set list (several new songs from the town and the city performed) but warren joined the band for a smoking "not fade away" into "bertha" and stayed for the final song, which I don't have the name of, a spanish / english rocker that he eventually wailed on...

mule was off and running right from the start, perfect sound mix where I was in the center loge EXCEPT that the bass drum was up way too high in the mix and completely stiffling the bass guitar, which was rather muddy, you knew it was there, but the round musicality (is that a word?) was missing...instead, the overall bass feel was dominated by the bass drum and had that 808 drum machine feel of club music, eh...by mid set this was corrected somewhat, and by second set, I didn't notice as much

as you can see by the first few songs, it was a heavy raging mule we got right out of the gate, very powerful

perhaps the more varied sound of los lobos was still in my mind, however, as I found myself enjoying the early part of mule's show, but feeling a little less excited and a little bombarded by the music, this probably had much to do with what I felt about the bass mix

by eternity's breath or maybe even trane, a more extended psychedelic jam atmosphere started entering...from this point on, the show was incredible for me

vivino and berlin were great on the james brown tribute, with warren laying down the funky repetive riff, while vivino and berlin got down and dirty in the groove (gonna have a funky good time)

love with cesar rojas was off the charts, the shade man trading blazing lines with the big man

in between sets, I met up with eric11 jam and jojo and got some bad news : (

also met mike w "in person" for the first time, as well as several other zoners...thanks for the beer sihead, kind of funny neither of us knew who we were, ahem...well, as jojo remarked, that's the beauty / nuttiness of the zone

second set was smokin' start to finish, with david hidalgo turning in a sweet lead on little wing, despit the half-assed effort of lobos roadie to adjust his vocal mic, this flowed right into politician, which was oh so fine

drums was pretty crisp and the end of the show was really nice...rubber chickens and toy mules started appearing all over the amps and flying through the air at times on stage, everyone definitely having a good time putting on a great show

the beatles encore was unreal, see below for some guitar notes

at some point in the night, I heard third stone from the sun

I'll be back for the dub side!

also think it was during helter skelter that warren and jimmy crossed guitar necks and were wailing away as strings were touching strings
