They played last night in a small (600) seat old adobe-spanish theatre. And friends, it was well worth the 3 hr trek! I'v eseen many an acoustic show and this was easily in the top 3. 1st time seein' T. Rice....more like sticky fried rice! as his shit was simply off-the-hook the entire night!
The show opened w/ Rowan/Rice quartet, (ok i now have a serious crush on the mandloin gal, sharon gilchrist...yow...) There was no Angel band of just Female singer, which suits me just fine as the quartet played a good hour +...I don't have a setlist but they did, Dust Bowl Children-Angel Island, some songs off teir new album due out in Feb..Bromberg came out for soem sick shit on a "in the pines" song...dunno title but was melty-magical. They did prob the best midnight moonlight i ever did hear, each instrument thruout the night took lead turns, everybody, David egging them on the "do it again"...Tony Rice had 3 takes at the solo!!! Fucking AAAAAAAA!!!!, Then a Panama Red...they encored a Free Mex. as well as some N.Carolina song...
BRomberg came out SOLO for a good 5-6 songs, said I haven;t played just solo acoustic in front of folks in 20 yrs!! The man can PLAY. if it's just me , you're gonna get a lot of blues! Then Peter came out and played Wild Horses duet, amazingly....love ya Peter! Then the rest of everyone came out and rounded out the night w/ a good 1/2 dozen tunes. Probably about a 2 1/2 hr show minus the intermission.
All the musicians were top-notch, and being the last night all together really seemed to jam it out and enjoy themselves a whole hell of a lot. Tony FUCKING RICE is the man......jeezus. It's times like this I get bummed i don't have a stealth recording setup as this was easily one of the best shows that I ever did see. I fy'all get a chance to see any of these guys, don't pass it up!
>>Tony FUCKING RICE is the man......jeezus.
Amen to that. And it all appears effortless for him, standing there with that perfect posture and a cool western look about him, like a fast draw cowboy ready to blow you away ~

I know I'm missing some songs here and there. But what a great show. I was pleased to see that the Angel Band didn't play. They sound great and all but it just left more time for Bromberg to really jam with Tony Rice and the rest of the quintet. I am hoping there was somebody there recording this show.
amen, seems we got the cream...thanks for joggin' the memory w/ rider, dark hollow!!!! & bojangles. yeah dunno about it being taped...i didn't see anything/anyone.....bromberg also did the ray charles tune....
