Ok, since I got browbeat into going by the likes of gregschmeg and other notorious Zoners, I guess I should give y'all a review.
So...do you fellow Zoners have any idea of the lengths that I go thru to support decent music in the urban wasteland of Southern Cal...I think not, this ain't for the faint-of heart...Slugging my way thru 60 miles of freeway gridlock, psychoticness...splitting downtown skyscrapers as I do the 55-405-110-101 fwy dance.
So the Knitting Factory is a very COOL venue. 2 stages. Percolator played on the smaller stage, w/ cozy leather seats and a nice atmosphere. It's been a long time since I've been on Hollywood Blvd. Lets just say it gives Mrket and Tellegraph streets a run for their money. Right next to Mann's Chineese theatre, as I walked by the front....I hear, "right here, it's Scarface." Some tourists getting their pic takin right there w/ Al Paccino himself. I was buzzed and on the way to the show, but it sure the hell looked like him. Spiderman was outfront....crazies everywhere...it's kinda like vegas strip...lights action....
So the show? Tues night rough. Place didnt update their message so there's an opener, which I caught a couple songs of. OK..So Jim don't go on till 10:30.....late for me since I work @ 7am. They played till midnight. Was pretty good. I wasn't blown away. But Jim can sure play....pretty ripping. The dude from Kimmock, Stein? was on rythum, but traded leads too...good interplay between the 2. Rodney was a usual monster (whether or not the purists think he overplays or not) bass good. Did an insane Weight-reggae style before going into a jam. A friend of JIms got up for a 3 way guitar jam during that tune, was cool. Place was sparsely attended. MAybe 50 people....felt bad but hey its Tues night. Got back to truck to find a nice $45 parking ticket...as my truck wont fit in the tiny parking garages.......So my $13 dollar show got expensie real quick....All in all a fun time...went solo, as I can't drag people to hear great music. (soloed Rown/rice too).....
So keepin' it real and representin' music sluts everywhere, down here in the trenches...
-turtle-
Hey kick ass cool. Glad you checked it out.
Of course Scareface and Spiderman add alot of color to any show....^&542!!!
60 miles!!??!....thats insane brother man. and with a $45 parking ticket to boot?! kind of makes me feel insignificant and a PUSSY for seeing them play 10 mins from my house.
Yeah Mitch Stein is a great guitar player and Rodney Holmes is the man.
DUDE, KEEP ON ROCKIN IN THE FREE WORLD!..
us music sluts everywhere "thank you" for it.

(ps a dude taped the show, and said it'd be up on the archive in a week!)
Sorry for your hassles. I got TOWED after seeing a Joe Strummer & the Mescaleros show and autograph signing at the old Tower Sunset and it cost me over $200 and a 20 block walk to get my car back, so believe me, I feel your pain. Nothing like the old Tinseltown fleecejob. I saw a couple of shows at the Knitting Factory when I lived there and had more or less the same impression. The sparse turnout seems pretty normal for a Tuesday night, there is just a huge amount of competition for the entertainment dollar in that city. Shows that used to cost me $25 and up when I lived in Humboldt County were $6-10 in L.A.
So Garth Hudson didn't drop in? Anyone know if he still lives in L.A. or has he gone back to the family turf outside Toronto?
I believe Garth lives in Woodstock.
They're in SF tonight...$10!!
Not sure I'll make it though
Only 4 more shows in their CA mini-tour.
Jan 25, 10:45 pm, 12 Galaxies, SF
Jan 26, 9:00 pm, Moe's Alley, Santa Cruz
Jan 27, 9:00 pm, Moe's Alley, Santa Cruz
Jan 28, 9:30 pm, Sweetwater Saloon, Mill Valley
