Well, the King of Dieselbilly put on a great show last night at the very hip Johnny D's. I went in with my brother last, and the both of us being veterans of the good old Cody days, we could hardly wait for Bill to rip it up. We both hadn't seen Bill play in maybe 25 years.
True to the review here a couple of weeks ago, Bill devoted the first half of at least a 2 1/2 show to his new album, "Hammer of the Honky Tonk Gods," with the second half to the "geezers" in the crowd." Both sets did not disappoint. Bill is one hell of a guitar player.
It was good to see him again. Kind of like seeing an old friend. At the break, I went over and bought a couple of his CD's. I said to him that I saw him a number of times years ago when they played those classic double bills with the New Riders. He said, "Yeah man! I see you have your "nerps" (NRPS) shirt on."
I swear his guitar is a holdover from the '70's. It's beat to shit, but man it sounded great.
Get out there and see him!
Sweet! Bill is one of my favorites. Any windmills?
Yeah, Dave..one or two!
He also does that move when shakes his head left to right after he hits a good chord...and his mouth is wide open. He has those spider fingers, too. Man, it looks his left hand stretches over the whole fretboard.
Bill must have mentioned just about everybody in rock 'n roll during Hot Rod Lincoln which closed the first set. It was a gas.
Vintage Guitar Magazine had a good interview with Bill Kirchen a few months ago.

Oh man,,,thanks. Great article!
That is a great article. Bill Kirchen is simply the best player when it comes to Telecaster twang and tone. He's been playing through a Talos amplifier these days.

He's coming to my bar, The Zoo Bar, on Sat. Did he have a keyboardist (not that he needs one)?
No he didn't, Dominic. Just a power trio, guitar, bass, drums. Great show.
Well, I've been telling all kindsa' folks to come out to the show tomorrow night. Can't wait!!
Hope he plays "Girlfriend"!
I see him tonight in Tulsa at the Mercury Bar which is an old filling station....
