I am still bleary eyed from last night's show from Dark Star Orchestra, with special guest Donna Jean Godchaux-MacKay. They did the epic 2-24-74 Winterland Arena show, and it was incredible. This, the beginning of 4 sold out nights at the fresco filled Great American Music Hall in San Francisco. It was certainly like old home night, with the family faithful coming out. Rob Headband on keyboards and Donna Jean crooning with a game face on was big fun.
What a beautiful and intimate venue, complete with memories of 8-13-75. Dennis McNally was by the side of the stage all night, Bob Matthews was fiddling with cables and helping with the sound, which seemed real clean and loud. The low end was all there all night. DSO continues to shine. Donna Jean and Martin Fierro will be there tonight for round 2.
I will jump this thread and say I saw the 2 Portland shows a few days prior and had a BLAST. Rob Barraco is a freakin monster and raises the game of everyone else. Say what you will abour DSO... but they rocked. Feeds that jones!!
I posted my recording of 3/28 over at etree, its pretty decent, check it out.
