The Dead in your backyard? Phil & Friends raised money for Cedars of Marin. A very wonderful night of music and friendship.
more info?
setlist?????
Sorry to say that I had to work this event. I remember some parts. Lauren Shera opened followed by an accustic Warren. A very nice Into the Mystic. The next 2 sets were with PLF. The Friends that joined them were various people who paid $5000 to play with the band. Bob and Mickey showed up to play a few songs. The highlight was Weir doing Jack Straw. Sorry I can't remember more. I gave a friend of mine pen and paper and told him to write the set list. I check with him later.
The set list was very standardize for the neighbors who paid big bucks for the charity event.
were there any tapers taping the bash ???

Where was the show....outside?
The show took place in someone's backyard in Ross, CA. You could hear the music almost 1/2 a mile away which attracted about 50 or so people who listened from outside the gates of the property. It was a benefit for Cedars, attended by about 400 people or so, fully catered, open bar, silent auctions on all kinds of items. It seemed like they raised a lot of money.
Thanks Adam for the setlist.
We did raise alot of money.
Someone bidded $10,000.00 on a signed bass.
Great, great show, could hear it clearly from my house up the hill. Wish I had gone! By the way, the home which hosted the event has a lot of history--site of some of the Acid Tests. Only in Marin!
i hope someone got away with taping it for us zoners......
Sid, who were invited? Did one person make the guest list or was it members of Cedars?
What is Cedars?
hey THE Q, if you play houses ill find you one with a giganto yard, the hottest hotties that have never heard you before and of course some zoners...
Not bad for sombody's backyard
couldn't here it in Novato but my neighbor catered it and gave me the rundown!
Hey folks - I was there and it was about the most rad thing that I've ever attended.
First, the Cedars is an organization in Marin that provides residential care, education and occupational training to people with developmental disabilities. This show was a fund raiser for this very excellent organization and was by invitation.
I pretty much couldn't believe it when I arrived an saw the full PLQ stage setup in this guy's backyard. I was expecting something scaled down but that wasn't the case. It was a full-on, 2 1/2 hr. show that rocked. The biggest thrill was watching these guys on a knee high stage five feet from them! Crazy!!!. The second set I sat on the edge of the stage right in front of Warren, close enough to read his music stand. What a huge thrill the whole thing was, besides the fact that the band was hanging and talking to anyone who came up before and during the break.
One thing I can say about these guys - they have a good time playing music! It was cool to see that up close. BTW - didn't notice any tapers. Too bad, the show rocked.
Has Warren jammed on Jack Straw before?
Guest Drummer - Larry Menaker
Guest Guitarist - Gary Rich
so Mr Menaker... how was it to jam with the boys???
how did ya get a chance to do what all of us have dreamed of?
It was a blast. They're all so friendly and gracious. I was on stage for about 25 minutes. They were all crackin jokes for a few minutes while Bobby got his mix. I'm still floating
i am so freaking jealous.
Damn...I'd be "floating" for weeks before I came down. What an incredible experience that must of been. Something I'm sure you'll never forget. I hope you got some pictures. I can just see me telling my friends:
ME: "Your never guess who I got to play with the other night...Phil and Friends baby!!!"
FRIENDS: "Yeah, right, ok...sure, you played with Phil Lesh and his friends"
Totally awesome.
they should release the show on CD with all the $$ going to Cedars!!! Now that would generate some $$ & let us all contribute to the WONDERFUL cause!!!
How much did you have to pay Larry?

Great video....
Larry,
Congratulations on sitting in with the band. I was fortunate enough to have Bob sit in with my band a couple of years ago at a private party in MV. I live in Corte Madera and am looking for a drummer to jam with. We play Dead and Dead related material and originals. Any interest? I can be reached at solomonr@pacbell.net
Again - congratulations,
Rick
now that ive seen some photos i am SUPER DUPER JEALOUS !!!
Hi everyone The show was at my house in Ross. Yes. The Dead in my own back yard. Unbelievable. I can't stop thinking about it. Very magical. the guest vocalist was Scott Gilbert from D.C. Can someone add him to the list as I am not too computer savvy! It was a night to remember. there might be a home video out there somewhere. There will be an article in the Marin Independent Journal this Friday.
Still smiling.......Roseanna

I can't even imagine how cool this was. I would love to see the whole video. To tell you the truth, the VHS quality of the whole thing is perfect. After all, it is in someones back yard. Good for "the Q". And you're right, that is about as "non-clear channel as you can get". Congrats to those who sat in. I am so jealous.
