Well, reviews notwithstanding, we're leaving from Maine for some PHIL BOMBS!!!!!!!!!!!!
good move - the love awaits for sure - forget the reviews!

I'm still looking for that extra ticket if anyone is holding...
seems like you lucky guys attending will get more blues oriented setlist? maybe a bust out of Good Morning Little school girl? have fun and dont listen for the mistakes, listen for the explorations!

Friend of the Devil
i just came back from sobs. i was there both nights, never saw an extra ticket. I heard of one both nights, sold for $60 each time (way to go phans). People were offering 200 bucks and stuff like that so i figured i wouldnt stick around to have my head on the door again. I got in the first time for PLU, so i am happy with that. time to see the set list.
Franklin's Tower
The Weight!
shoutout to my site maybe?
The Weight
Warren Haynes on stage
Just left SOB's after unsucessfully trying to score a reasonably priced ticket. As I was leaving I saw Warren, his wife Stephanie and his (look-alike) roadie rolling in Warrens amp and axe through the side door. Asked Stephanie if Warren was sitting in and she confirmed it. Oh well, the second set should be ripping!!
Enjoy all that are there.
Ship of Fools
You beat me to it Weightstaff.
Y E S......... yes
Ship Of Fools
this night is gonna be off the hook
Warren AND Larry McCray?! HELL YEAH!!!
It's about to get heavy!
Spikenyc - Sorry to read you didnt make it into the show tonight. I'm sure this isn't exactly a close second, but hopefully you can at least enjoy getting the updates here. What were tickets going for outside?
Bones just sent a text
BLOW AWAY BABY!!!!
FUCK YEAH PHIL!!!!
Cold Rain and Snow
Weightstaff - There were few tickets availble. The only one I came across was some guy in a suit and he had a pair he was selling for $200 a piece. I like Phil but not for that much. I had to give it the effort though, SOB's is only a few blocks from my apt.
The only other ticket I saw was a kind head who sold it to a dude for $60. Lucky dude!! There also seemed to be a fair amount of people trying to scam their way in. They were letting people from inside go outside to smoke and it looked like there was some kind of stamp-bracelet-stub thing going on. Don't know if anyone was sucessful. Waiting for the next update.

Cryptical Evelopment
TaperRob, you are a national treasure. Wish I was there, I'm expecting a lot of raving posts tonight. Listening to 4/5/02 Denver first set as compensation, just got the "everything promised is delvered to you ", line fron "Doin' That Rag". I suspect that it will apply tonight. Steve DeCarteret from Denver, if you read this get in touch.

The Weight
That Encore is rather a statement of foreshadow don't ya think?
Ya think?
Cant wait to hear this Viola Lee Blues!
The show was only about 8 million times better tonight. Thank you, Mr. Molo. Thank you, Mr. Haynes.
The show started very nicely with a very bouncy Franklins, followed by a neat arrangement of FOTD; The Weight was something of a surprise, and came off very well. While this may be hard to believe, I thought that the set began to drag when Warren came on; Ship was nothing special, Blow Away could have been another band, and Cold Rain was just not right. The guitarists sounded like they were tryiing to outdo each other, and Phil's vocals lacked any semblence of the subtlety that makes the song. I love the tune, and it was not a good version.
Second set: Viola Lee was a knockout as always, and Warren was done. Candyman, with Larry M on vocals, OK, but he gave up on the lyrics halfway through. Watchtower, again with Larry M on vocals, again not distinctive for Phil, and it could have been another band. Cryptical, OK, Other One, kind of too long jam, that went into many directions without realizing much in the way of possibilities.
Terrapin, nicely done, but why the do over halfway in; that was not a problem, but not clear why it happened. Rider, again, not very distinctive, but hard to really go wrong with the tune. Encore of Next Time You See Me, Larry M on vocals, another instance of what might have been a cover band.
Molo was great, and I am sure made a difference; Larry M seems very cool, and will get the material if he has enough time to do it. I have always liked Larry C; mandolin on FOTD a very nice touch tonight, and his versatility is always there, though the stage got crowded with him, Warren and Larry M. Hardly heard the keys or the Trey chick vocal, and they might as well not have been there. Maybe there were too many expectations for these shows; as I look back, the raw enthusiasm of the PLU sets had something on tonight.
rad!

the weight now... not too bad!!
>>>>>>>>Ship of Fools
Oh, I didn't realize the venue was a boat in New York Harbor!
BTW: Why Waste Warren With Weak Warblings?
I mean, even Just A Little Light would've rocked the sh*t outta the first set stuff - And then to make him leave before Watrchtower & The Other One?
Makes NO sense, Phil.
trob - excellent - i an not get a play icon - no broadcast
Wait -- one person says the reason for the re-start on Terrapin wasn't clear, but the setlist says there were bass problems on Terrapin. [Edit] What were the problems?
MAN, I'll tell you what. After being at the good shows (Bimbo's, Maritime, and all the Warfields) and the bad ones (12 Galaxies, Fillmore), I sure wish I was there!!!! Thanks to Tar for calling in the setlist to me 'till the phone died!!!!
got the whole show cued up on the Zone Radio...
www.live365.com/stations/2012_live
Phil stopped the Terrapin.. didn't get what he said, then went back to his stack and was tuning his bass..... someone near me said he sounded off; something did not sound right as in being off key..... I did not see anyone else making any adjustments to their equipment....
Can sum it up with this: as many of you been to a many show over the past 30 years and this was a good show. Great energy, phil smiling, larry m is a sick guitarist, molo a machine, and warren should obviously be at every show. Larry C and the particle xtc tripster dude were much better. If I had a choice between being somewhere else or being at a phil show -- I would take a phil show any day.
PS. Trey's chick was so high both nights it was not even funny -- she didn't sing more than 10 words both night and spent most of the night sitting off stage tripping. No way she shows up again.
>>>spent most of the night sitting off stage tripping
Really??? that's funny
Terrapin had someone playing in the wrong key or something, sounded WAY off, so they stopped, fiddled, then continued ...
In any case lots of fun and VIOLA !
Particle Dude kicking in nicely on Viola
thanks for updates and thanks taperrob again!
After hearing so many stories about the trainwreck on Monday, I went last night with low expectations, but knew that Phil and the band would step up big time and deliver. Overall, a very good show, especially considering the limited time this group has played together. The crowd vibe and the intimacy of SOBs was very special. I was standing about 10' from Phil for the 1st set!
A few flubs and weak transitions, but overall, an excellent show!
Sam L.

Your first paragraph was well said
The second is just plain mean and wrong
She sang backup (backing vocals) she was not tripping and was off stage waiting for her next parts
She sat next to taperrob Both nights
She was lovely and gracious and humble
I said to her it would of been nice to hear her sing a Full Song lead vocals but she was thankful for the oportunity
As for yopur tripping comment
Only you know why you would say that
Particle dude is MUCH more audible on the tape...
couldnet really here him at all most of the night except during Blow Away and the Particle Dude song rave Jam in the 2nd set...
but will say this...
LAST NIGHT ROCKED!!!!
smoker!
THANKS PHIL.
"I like phil but not that much"
How do ya put a monetary value on magic ?
I woulda paid whatever I had to
...and that folks is why you go to both if you can, no expectations after the 1st night and Phil delivered...Thanks for a great couple of days in nyc.....>
>>PS. Trey's chick was so high both nights it was not even funny -- she didn't sing more than 10 words both night and spent most of the night sitting off stage tripping. No way she shows up again.<<
She definately was not tripping... and she did sing the last verse of the Weight....
Her vocals came thru more the 2nd night than the 1st
Sounds like last night delivered the goods...way to go, Phil and crew!
Well, TaperRob, she was either tripping or she was real happy to meet you -- she certainly had a huge ear to ear permagrin and buggy eyes when she was sitting next to you last night!
Keep on keeping on.
Joe B.
She sounded great during the Weight!
i wish there was more room for her to sing. one of my only neg. comments about these 2 shows. Phil should get her in a line up again and give her a song. Shes got pipes!
Why is there more reviewing in Other Stuff threads then here where non Registered users have access..??..
So Lurkers..time to get you a username and read those folders..
Who needs Gunner when we have Joe?
Some random thoughts:
My Creds: My first Dead show was 5-5-77 and my last was 6-25-95 with about 150 shows in between, plus maybe 60 assorted PLF, Ratdog, Furthur, O1s, etc. shows since ‘95.
SOBs: I wasn't there, but it seems pretty clear that these shows had some moments, but this incarnation still has some serious kinks to work out. Obviously the Molo thing didn’t help. I’ve watched Zoners skewer early shows by many line-ups that ultimately go on to win praise and I bet that will happen again. Yeah, it’s too bad that Phil didn’t bring a polished unit into SOBs ready to blast the roof off the place, but I don’t think 60 bucks is that much to ask to get to be one of 400 souls watching something new, waiting to be born. No doubt, as a pro he should have it together before he rolls into the sheds to play in front of thousands.
LC: Larry has always struck me as a supremely tasteful, concise, elegant player who is almost always spot on, if occasionally too restrained. He has a great feel for this music and his multi-instrumental work has brought much-needed new textures to many old chestnuts that I’ve heard in their original arrangements quite enough, thank you very much.
Phil’s vox: I love nothing more than to see Phil puff up his chest and chant his way through one or two songs that suit him well per show. I said one or two songs! I’ve enjoyed the contributions of most of the real singers he has had on board such as Joan, Chris R., Warren and Rob.
PLF vs Ratdog: My wife was a solid Bobby guy back in the day and we’ve seen a few Ratdog shows in the past couple of years. They were good shows and we had a great time, but Bobby seemed a bit ...grim. At one show, Bobby left the rest of the boys out on the stage to jam and it seemed like a collective “phew, dad’s away” sigh of relief washed over them as they proceeded to rave it up for a bit. As soon as Bobby came back, it was “places everybody!" Contrast that with goofy, grinning, bopping, born-again mad professor Phil, and we’ll take a Phil show any day! Especially since I witnessed Phil go from a skinny moptop to a bloated, green-grey stiff stewing in his own poison from a rotted liver over the course of the Dead’s run. Long live Phil!!
Be safe and have fun, y’all.
Ratdog, while fun, is a novelty act. Phil is a pioneer, a true musician
Thank god we still have the both of them alive and kiciking anyways....I agree that for me PHil is the bomb but, bobby is grateful dead too!! we all miss Jerry and well wby argue about what is there so long as it is there!!!
SWEET JESUS
GLORY TO GOD
THAT WAS WHAT ITS ALL ABOUT
SHOWS LIKE THAT ARE AS POWERFUL AS THE SUN
After the uneasiness of the previous night, the band came back and put all their heart and strength into the music. It was all about the sound, the living energy.
SO BEAUTIFUL
SO STRONG
I JUST ABOUT HAD THE BEST TIME.
ThankPhil
why does the setlist on the home page have the encore as Casey Jones??? That is wrong...
Ratdog a novelty act? You got ass backwards. Phils line up is the "novelty act."
Im certainly not a huge fan of the dog, and would have to say that Phil with the "Q" would blow Ratdog out of the water, but the current Ratdog line up has been together for quite some time now, Phil threw this line up together in about a week.I know this wont happen, but as far as Im concerned, Phil has got to tighten it up and settle on one line up. He can still have a guest or two from time to time, but he has to keep a core.
"but he has to keep a core"
thats right and molo is the core.....
Phil has basically always had a core
Phil and Molo w/
Kimoc
Herring
Campbell
I guess you could add in
Phil and Larry, Rob w/
Stipe
But always three friends who are well versed
Wheres a well versed lead singer? Wheres Herring? Wheres Kimock? Wheres Barraco? Molo is on and off. Larry is the only consistant one, and two is not much of a core. But if you enjoy it...well enjoy it...I dont.
thats fine john to each thier own, thanks for at least having a well thought out intelligent problem with the show, i havent heard it yet! still waiting for it to hit the archives!
I have heard a little bit of this show, and it sounds pretty good to me. I will definitely attend if this lineup comes down to Tampa.
HEY TAPERROB
old school head jumped on the bus in 78, last phil vegoose both late night and the field.
this note is to thank you for the consistent postings that keep us folks at home so entertained
AND TO THANK YOU FOR BEING A GENTLEMAN in your response to unbroken joe,
TREY'S CHICK, hmmm lsat time I checked Christina is a fine musician and most importantly a person
I have met and enjoyed her vocals and electronics with and without trey, and she has always been a gracious and kind person
I have heard the same mean things said about Donna Jean in the DISCO DEAD DAYS, Brent , vince etc etc
I was just so glad to hear someone POLITELY respond to anyone who has to attack a person and cant even do it witha name
The mix in the audience aint the job of the Singer and the size of the stage necessitating someoone not having great sight lines hmmmmmmm
I have watched jerry and boys asses more times than any other butts inthe world but never blamed them for the way an arena is made
or some lame tall guy who decides taht standing in front of the folks in wheelchairs is cool cause he can
so JUST KUDOS to you for your continued KINDNESS and I have only posted ONCE in years just to mention YOUR kindness is why some of the fmaily is still intact, and why I still go back
NOTE TWO
about the way Christina and Jen walk on and off stage during shows, just like they did at the ORLEANS,, etc
first time i was at a trey show i thought it looked silly when they would walk off stage when they werent singing then i got used to it,
than this last year while wathcing a guy named Eric Clapton playing guitar and his female vocalists just stay on stage when there not singing sometimes moving and shaking sometimes sitting i thought hmmm now to me that seems silly
while NOONE way is RIGHT or wrong i really think its cool that Christina went to LISTEN in the audience, and that YOu got to sit with her, again I think she's an angel and given the chance might just be great part of the PHAMILY and may grow to add magic to this music that many of us value more than words can tell
so its all goood just perceptions
REVIEWS cant figure out why when someone on here posts a review of the music and is critically listening that other folks feel the need to attack the person
I have often been at shows that had horrible playing period, the field show at vegoose for exampe, IM Not a trey hater and quite the opposite think he is a gifted player and composer and force of good nature
the fact is it was the sloppiest playing I ever heard him do, when he stopped row jimmy saying my bad and started it again it was musically horrible and a total energy meltdown,
and a really sad end of a magical weekend in my musical opinion, I really felt sorry for him
I dont attack him as a person, or blame larry, etc however in all shows I have seen of any band last year the field show was one of the weakest sets MUSICALLY i ever witnessed PHIL involved with, i still danced and grinned and sang HOW DOES IT FEEL
of course there were highlights in that set, adn the much talked about botched banjo moments with mike gordon, well I could hear not only the banjo wehre i was, i heard the fun he had when trey handed him his guitar also it was a blast funny as shit and reminded me of many great dead shows where the guest of the night could barley be heard in the mix in the audience but sounded awesome on the boards LIVE sound= human = hmmmmm HUMAN
that whole set Reminded me of Jerry's total meltdown on easter in 88 Harford does anyone here remember HE THREW the microphone in black peter, yep thats the sound on the tape cause he was so discusted at himself YEPPP he threw the microphone to the floor,
so while I am so glad phil is back healthy and LOVES US and the music enough to do whatever he wants
JUST THINK If everyone who attacked MUSICIANs on these boards took that time and did something goood hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
just planting a seed, if YOU want to hate trey, or larry or so consider chaneling that energy and plant a tree or maybe hug a musician or your mom, or write a letter to congress
MAYBE take that negative energuy and do something positive,
and uh when i dont like the line up phil is playing with I DONT GO to the shows,
POWER TO PHIL for continuing to do what he wants when wants and how he wants
EVEN IF I dont enjoy certain variations of the PHIL scene the last couple of years I really RESPECT him for staying true to what he believes in and power to him, if playing stones covers in a bar in ny is what he wants to do power to him,
I personally cant think of anything less i would like to do with my time but I love PHIL for doing it
and to all the PHANS that make the scene so positive THANKS and to all the haters
CONSIDER LOVE
"Once in a while you can get shown the light............."
oh yeah and agian TAPERROB thanks for all of the info nothing better to know if I cant be there I can get KIND info from a KIND person
"and in the end, the love you take, is equal to the love, YOU MAKE"
we want phil, we want phil, we want phil , we want phil TO BE HAPPY AND get back truckin
peace love and tunes
Hey Vince Norman,
I dont understand how pointing out that having a singer on stage who sang one verse of one song over two nights is being mean -- it was just pointing out that compared to Joan or any other singer who actually participates in the show -- Christina did not and when she did -- she did not know the words -- I dont think that is too much to ask from a "professional musician" -- she was barely audible when she was on stage. Saying she is trey's chick was not intended as an insult -- my understanding is she plays/sings in Trey's band -- perhaps she rides the same horse that he does. And, reviewing a show is not a criticism or hate -- these guys are professionals who get paid serious money to put on quality shows -- I am sure they are not as thin skinned as you -- so in other words -- piss off -- oh, Im sorry -- peace off.
PS -- I am sorry that I interpreted her giggling in the corner during the times she was off stage as tripping -- maybe taperrob was just telling her some good jokes or she was laughing at us.
hmm intersting that a note i wrote to thank Taperrob for being a gnetlman somehow you think was a criticism of you,
and that Christina was laughing at "US" yep the world revolves around YOU
and smiling and laughing is a sure sign of drug use
do you even read your own words ?
as a matter of fact if you read your original post again it doesnt say any of what your now saying about professinal musicians blah blah blah
IF you read my notes I agree with that statement that's why i didnt go to the shows, or bother attacking you its not that your not worth the time or effort but .........
im gald you learned C.D. 's name so some good came of my effort that makes me beam
sorry that is all you got from my words,
its great when people like you and uhhhhhhhhhh george bush keep on talkin and defending their ignorant actions instead of saying oops maybe that wasnt the right way to phrase it, we all say stupid shit at times ADULTS usually have the ability to recognize it when they slip and sometimes even make good for it and learn from it
as far as my skin and pissing again that obviosly is a response about music and communicating, ah the boldness of online personal attacks its so cooool empowering and original heheheheheheheh
and if cause trey got busted for certain subsances that means his band mates must all do the same thing
so by that logic PHIL will be busted doing crack and smack in golden gate park soon ina vw bus cause he was in a band witha guy that did that, DO YOU SEE THE FAULTY LOGIC im still not attackin YOU jsut responding out of courtesy
anytiem you want to review toegether lets do im a damn cricital listener but leave the attacks at home
Ill be at many shows and festivals this summer
still has nothing to do with insulting strangers and blaming singers for poor sound mixing
"so thekids they dance and shake there bones
and the politicians keep throwintg stones
and its all to clear we are on our own
singing ashes to ashes all fall down"
now waht about the summer tour across country whos got the juicy rumours of whats coming next
