RRE - 4/26/07 - BellyUp Tavern* ~ Solana Beach, CA..
San Diego County, CA..
* a few blocks from San Diego "The Real Zone" Million Dollar row house scene of many Zoner Jam sessions..
Ran out of coffee need to go to supply..
Here is what they played last night..
(asked guy doing lights for his copy of list..ya might know him looks like TimmyHoover was wewaring a ladies felt hat w/ adorned w/ lace headband and white flower..)
Will someone please tell me what I heard last night...
LOL..
Just got a call..Timmyhoover and Furious E on stand up bass are playing a stealth show in empty lot next to Pizza Port~Solana Beach on Coast Hwy at Noon..
RRE if you read this..come on by..We kick ya down a pitcher and a pie....
Your friends..The San Diego Zoner chapter of "The California Happy Brigade.."
It looks like they crossed Buddy Green of the list for Rob Lowe...ha ha ha.
After that you were in the buff, listening to a something like a bird within her sing, while you got head, drifting among the flies, attracted by your neighbor the hobo?
Wow G.Dad...you had a busy night!
the boys delivered bigtime last night... but let's not forget the excellent set from the Tony Furtado Band that opened the show @ 9pm... 2 sets from RRE.... coolest thing was that they are *still* RRE, they haven't lost touch with what they do best and what their fans like... a very cool audience, a lot softer around the edges than what I usually see at the Belly-Up for a show. this band definitely beings out the "family" in everyone.. the guys still cruise around in the bar before the show...
the song DRIFT on the setlist is The Band's Acadian Driftwood and it was the highlight of the show for me. I was thinking to myself how much RRE is like this era's Band, and then they start the intro jam to Acadian Driftwood and played the song with heartfelt passion and conviction, trading off the verses between the band members, just like The Band.
yep a great evening of music, makes me glad I pushed myself into going after 4 crazy long days of work... and to think there was another great night of music being created up north at the same time.... kindred spirits RRE and Phil.....
lots of warm fuzzies today KK
Carbone..when show was over says..
"Thank You California we had a great time here.."
Good RRE show....nice mix songs and jams..place 1/2 full much room to cruise the dance floor..side stage pits and balcony...
Saw Mark (Ntfdaway) from Long Beach at show he was doing Donor Table..
Known San Diego Zoners in the house TimmyHoover..Furious E..Richard from Escondido keyboard phenominon..
My first hometown "jamband" show in a while I reckon..saw several people from the good old days when I went out to see bands more often..
They say "Where you been man..??.."
Who are you I ask them..I don't know Barry..I am G.Dad a Zoner..
Ha..
"You lost wieght"..
Yep..Headcasing burns calories..
And
The food in ReHab sucks.
Lost my knack for reviewing but here it goes..
My third RRE show in a week..Petaluma last Thursday + Saturday GAMH San Fran..
Did not catch Tony Furtado the opener..
Missed having The Duhks the opener for those Bay Area shows in the house..
John Grubb RRE bass player agreed with me..we have in common Duhks our "new" favorite band
7 Sacred Mtns..beautiful
Hobo Song..done slower than Old and in The Way and Peter Rowan versions I've heard..
Tuff to come close to Rowan singin it..
Waltz a Skeehan origional..Todd enouuraged pholks to dance the waltz..Carbone after song "Nice Waltzing"..ha..
Jig was fastfastfast but missed having The Duhks on stage w/ RRE for it..
Walk Beside Me...looks like a late song change from Smile Like A Buddha..
Good move...
Seems like there are tunes played not listed on list I posted..
Having run out of coffee beans here that is all I can muster at the moment
In closing I say..
RRE..The same band I saw 2 years ago but different..
It's like they practiced or sumthing..
Way tighter more polished but have kept some of their ruff edges..
Todd Sheaffer played more leads than other 2 shows I was at..
Andy Goessling seemed to stand out more in Mix..which is fine with me..
Bought me on way out of show..Elko CD at merch table...
I need to hear me some right now...
Nice setlsit interpretation Ms. Emily OdessaBlue...
They were in San Diego So Cal's down under..
So "Waltzing The Jig w/ a Hobo Buddha.." seems appropriate for this show..
Walk Beside Me..
Put one foot in front of the other
Steppin into the here and now
I'm not sure just where I'm goin
but I will get there anyhow
I got this far with no direction
Followed my nose to where I stand
My heart's still strong, I know I'll make it
Sit right down in the promised land
Sister come and walk beside me, until our pathways do divide
Nothin much but love to give you, even less have I to hide
When you left me in the spring time
So many questions in my mind
Summer came and left me waitin
Not one answer could I find
I see you in the Rocky Mountains
I feel you on the great North Sea
It's a lonesome road I have to travel
But you will always be with me
Brother come and walk beside me, until our pathways do divide
Nothin much but love to give you, even less have I to hide
I hear laughter in the thunder
I feel comfort on the wind
I see hope in hopeless faces
Someday they will love again
People come and walk beside me, until our pathways do divide
Nothin much but love to give you, even less have I to hide
From Real Time...

Were they ever really there at all..??..
Keep On Dancin..
I'm a big fan of that walking song!
I like the new Daddy-O tune too...you heard that one yet, GDaddio?
Glad to hear The Earth left California a smoking crater...
Yes Emily they played Daddy-O I came to find out the song title is
It along with a few other tunes I had never heard were done in Petaluma
Was sayin to myself..Am I having audiofactory hallucinations..again..
Right Petaluma! DUH!

What BellyUp lacked was The Duhks...
What I got was a 3rd show to make it a trifecta lots of room to move around you could smell the ocean a furlong away old and new friends in the house and a heartfelt no crowd chatter California run adios amigos "Walk Beside Me.."
...
>>you could smell the ocean<<
Sounds perfect!
Happy trails to Festival in Scottsdale, Arizona RRE and The Duhks you all get ready for some North Carolina Zoner Love at MerleFest..

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QSfx0ctJA5U RRE and The Duhks Old Plank Road in Seattle..
Gdad, Belly-Up did not miss the Duhks. they would have been great to have along, but too bad you did not catch Tony Furtado's opening set... the guy's in the same league as Bela Fleck on the banjo... he and his entire band stuck around for both RRE sets...
and yes you can smell the ocean from the street, the Monsoon boys were all talkin about their walk on the beach a 1/2 hour before showtime when they played there a month ago..
could somebody please get Nelson to the Belly-Up, we all know he'd love playing there...
Belly-Up shows are sweet! KK
Tony Furtado talked to him at merch table my friend in music biz was more interested in his albums than RRE's..
Belly Up did not miss The Duhks..
I did..
