I'm finally beginning to unwind from this past weekend's 4 day Strawberry Music Festival. Those who've never been to Strawberry are missing one the best run festivals in the country. This years Spring fest(there's another one on Memorial Day weekend) turned out to be one of the best I've been to since first attending in '96. The Yosemite weather was beautiful, the lineup full of surprises and the crowd was musically blissed out.
Too many acts to comment on individually, but a few highlights stand out. The best discovery for me was a great band out of Philly called Robert Gandolf's Slambovian Circus of Dreams. Son Volt meets Pink Floyd. I had no idea who they were until I heard their set. Damn good stuff. Honkytonk Homeslice, w/SCI's Billy Nershi, was a pleasant surprise. Great 3-part harmonies and fine picking. After their set, they hung out at the artist booth and chatted with the crowd. I had a chance to talk to Nershi and his wife. Super nice folks.
Dave Alvin's Acoustic Trio, Three Ring Circle, Eddie From Ohio, and the Infamous Stringdusters were also memorable highlights. Probably the biggest surprise for me was Michael Franti & Spearhead. They really fire up a crowd with some seriously rocking tunes. Franti kept the political
soapboxing to a minimum, which was a relief to me.
All in all, a mighty fine festival.
Oops. The other Strawberry festival is on Labor Day weekend.
Thanks for the heads up, always wanted to make a Strawberry Fest for a while. Sounds like you had a great time, as well as others.
how were the stringdusters?
