I think I was the only Zoner who got to attend this one-off gig.
This event was a benefit for SF Charter Schools featuring silent and live auctions. Many in attendance were high society folk, dressed to the nines with deep pockets. The affair was billed to run from 6:30 to 10:30pm. The legant second floor of the Ferry building was surrounded by tables with many SF resteraunteurs sampling their fare. The free food was awesome! Lots of wine and some beer was also being served up free of charge so, winos were well represented. All of the auction affairs came to a conclusion around 8:45 or so. From there, we all expected the main event to proceed momentarily. But, Bob was nowhere to be found (Wasserman was there and Jay Lane was mingling with people all night long). It wasn't until 10 pm that Weir came onstage, his pirate shirt having just been plucked from the dirty laundry basket. Bob was singing above average and for the most part, his plucking was pretty good. Bob played acoustic at first then moving on to a yellow Ibanez Les Paul shaped hallow-body and later playing a Gibson Es-335. Wasserman was playing the big acoustic bass and Lane played a standard small kit. Unfortunately, security forced the band to stop at 11pm so, we only got an hour of tunes. China Cat and acoustic Victim were special to these ears. Bob was somewhat under the booze influence. He looked like he needed another drink at the end.
The setlist from scattered memory:
Blackbird
Me & My Uncle
Victim or the Crime
