This had better not be the LAST TIME DNF plays the Brookdale. Absoultely the best time, and best concert I've ever seen.
Thank you. Not much more I can say to the Band and fans.

It's EASY....

Patience, I'm sure Emily will be checking in soon, I saw her with her notepad out. My memory won't do the set list justice. That disco ball still has my head spinning. Don't ever try to follow the lights around the room..And the set list can't possibly do that show justice. The jams were totally outrageous. I could swear I heard an Eyes jam (aka zan's baby jam)

Just like Nancy asked for.....well done.

Any ghost sightings? or does that Disco ball act as a ghostbuster?

Wow! I was terribly impressed and had a tremendous time. I do think that it was actually one of the top 100-200 shows I have ever seen. I was blown away all night. Every band member was just strong -Mookie and Pete really stepped up. John Molosuvious was himself... nuff said.... Barry building and soaring on all of his guitars. - Great setlist including Dr John, The Stones and John Lennon, DNB and Dead. Great crowd, love the Brookdale - great room about 110 folks beaming. (far less crowded than JGB and the Sons)- Great to see everyone - home base indeed. I had my arms up Saturday night for sure!!! The beautiful newfun was 180lbs solid and a beautiful brown . ( nancy just get rid if the couch ) what a great band of Phil Lesh & Friends caliber - Phil should just join up :-) - - God Bless America, God bless rock and roll, and long live the Dead!

Still Stunned

AWESOME!!
when is the next show/

More DNB

>>>Still Stunned

Is that the reason there's still no setlist posted from Brookdale or Forestville? P

Thanks Dan.

I'm still a bit too inarticulate to review (other than WOW!!!), but I remember an All You Need Is Love in there. (And was there really a Louis Collins, or am I just too fuzzy to recall?)

>>i can barely talk about it.

Funny how we're all at a loss for words when magic is happening. The music at the show was blissful..and as good as it gets.
Give us something to complain about if you want a "review" :-O

WOW!!! What a weekend!

I had an old high school friend in tow and it's safe to say, she's on the bus now! It happened sometime early in the first set, she turned and said "Wow, that bass player is a monster!" By the time we got to Any Naked Eye it was "I can't think of a single place I'd rather be". After the show she chatted with Barry and he gave her his room number and said maybe I'll see ya later, that sealed the deal :-)

and the Zoners helped too! I prepped her about the zone and the zoners and the whole internet thing...it sounded so crazy, it was even crazier when it turned out to be true! What a cast of characters...the Zoners are always a highlight of the show!

As for the venue--love it! I'm ready to go back! It's the perfect cozy hideaway!

As for the band--HOLY SHIT! Every time it's the same, I think they were great the last time and I couldn't find a critical thing to say so how can they possibly be better...and yet they always are! The jams are getting bigger, Molo is really letting loose and that's pushing Barry to be bigger! I love Barry's easy mellow Jerry vibe but this weekend he was powerful, very forward...not waiting for it to come to him but pushing ahead and attacking the jam! It's pretty sweet!

And then there's Pete! I was overcome with emotion when Kelly said he was a monster from the get-go! I prepped her about the people and the scene but she's not a music junkie like the rest of us, so I didn't go into the details with her...it was so cool when she picked it up on her own, she got it!

I'm amazed by Pete! When I first saw him a few years back, he was sitting behind a keyboard singing Stella Blue, the emotion of the song is strong, so I've sorta projected that image onto Pete, delicate and fragile to the point of being frail. Clearly, that's not the case! Saturday night he was full on rock star! He seemed physically bigger than before, he'd step forward on the stage, raise his bass up and really tear into it...fucking monster!! It was awesome!

And then there's David, meandering along, making sure the whole thing runs on Nelson Time, in all the energy and excitement, there's never one moment of urgency, nothing is every rushed or hurried, all good things in all good time. Yowza!!

The setlist was perfect, I'm always a sucker for Any Naked Eye!! Wizard's Son, Garden of Eden, Wicked Messenger, The Last Time Jam...Such a Night , Indeed!! I dunno about Louis Collins, it's not on my setlist, but that doesn't mean anything, I do have the love medley though...

I did hear some strange things though, during the Any Naked Eye deconstruction, Mookie made me thing of Gershwin, that was a first for me. A bit after that, the Aiko Aiko jam...there was a bit of the austin powers theme, the opening music, when Austin is walking through the hotel lobby naked but there's always something blocking his naughty bits like a couple oranges and a banana...It took me a minute to place it, but it was definitely there, a fun light-hearted jam! As always, FOTD was for me...first one's named sweet Emily, she's my hearts delight! :-) It's a small indugence!

Overall, the band is tighter, which gives them the freedom to be looser, the jams were bigger, Molo is really finding his space, he's not laying back anymore, he's really pushing, driving the jams forward, Barry is playing with more of an edge. Even songs that ooze sweetness, like FOTD, are sharper. It amazes me, it's one of the oldest songs around and they still find new ways to play it! (DUH! why does this surprise me?)

I'm ready to do it again!

Thank you David!

...and thank you Emily -- your detailed review was certainly worth the wait!!

These guys should just drop all their side projects and tour regularly as DNF. Are you with me? P

ha ha...I like your little fish Gary! You were in our thoughts at Brookdale, I've been slacking with the reviews(and seeing music in general) so it's nice to see others doing the duty...your efforts have certainly been noticed and were a topic of conversation over the weekend :-)

Nice recap Emily.
As usual had a great time with the Zoner contingent. There was so much more room to let loose there than at the Sweetwater gig. I could even dance with my arms up!
Now that Kelly is on the bus will we see her posting on the zone? possibly as " the only Glen Cove blonde" Sounds like you guys had a great weekend.

>>>an old high school friend in tow and it's safe to say, she's on the bus now! It happened sometime early in the first set

I glanced back at you guys a couple times during the first few songs.. I'm pretty sure it was that Freight Train Boogie that sealed the deal.

Pregame was great.. best one I can remember.. thanks to the Canyons for getting the suite (again)!

And as many have said, these shows were beyond belief. I would love to see this band play together for a long time. As Nancy said, it phills a certain void.
