A Very Solid showing from Jorma, Jack & Barry. Two full sets with songs ranging from Airplane to the new release from Jorma.
Opened with Blue Railroad Train into an Instrumental Ballad (Maybe from Stars in My Crown) into Sea Child, a definate highlight. A few Rev Davis songs, Good Shephard etc... Jorma still has it, though a few of the more expected tunes he tended to slide through the vocals.
Very attentive crowd in a very intimate club, holding 500 still with room to dance. They come out for the second set to strong applause, and before they start someone up front calls out for Death Don't Have No Mercy, and Jorma coplies. Stunning. The whole second set tore it up. Several songs from Quah incuding Hamar Promenade, things like Serpent Of Dreams, and plenty of early Tuna like Come Back Baby. As they're getting ready to go someone pleads for I Am the Light of This World. Jorma says, glad Jack knows it and they do it justice. They close with a stomping Just Because for an encore. Many years since Jorma played New Mexico which he mentioned. After this reception, hopefully he'll be back soon. Go see these boys, loose yet focused and the discography to choose from is nearly limitless. No qualms popping 30 with the right venue. JB
Nice review, thanks.
I'm seeing them in Santa Cruz tomorrow.
