I never was huge on Wilco when listening to them on disc. Loved "Being There," liked "Summerteeth," thought "Yankee Foxtrot" was OK, didn't like "Ghost Is Born" at all, but I think "Sky Blue Sky" is fabulous. I always loved Uncle Tupelo, and always seemed to relate better to Jay Farrar's Son Volt and solo efforts than anything by Jeff Tweedy.
Be that as it may, at the urging of a friend of mine who has seen Wilco live a couple of times, I gladly took in their show last night. Believe me, I've been trying hard to really like these guys, and I was thinking just maybe seeing them live will push me over the edge into the Wilco camp.
Well, last night's show was a total mind blower, and one of THE best concerts I've seen in a long time. Very rarely do I enjoy a show by a band who's music I'm not totally familiar with, but I enjoyed every second of last night. The place was sold out, the crowd was on it's feet for the whole show, we managed to puff up a bit, and the music was abslutely fabulous. I've been looking for a setlist of last night's show, but I can't seem to find one. If anybody can direct me, let me know.
Wilco is a band that is at the top of it's game right now, and any doubts I had about them were erased last night. I never realizeed that Tweedy can be a pretty engaging guy, bantering with the crowd a bit, and coming up with some pretty funny stuff. No need to tell you, the rest of the band is top shelf, especially Nels Cline ripping on the guitar.
Well, guess whose albums I'm going to revisit? Maybe I still won't be blown away by their recordings, but this is one hell of a band live.
welcome to the club

Glad to be in the club, and you're welcome for the review. Thanks for the setlist, verve.
In retrospect, it really was one hell of a show. The energy in the crowd was incredible. Great night.
Saw them at the Hammerstein in NYC on Monday. An amazing show, and yes they are really at the top of their game. Too bad they won't be back east in the near future.

I agree Sam. That Hammerstein show was just fantastic--one of the best shows I have seen in the last few years.
