man, what a night. this was my first time seeing GSBG live, listen to them quite a bit (thank the good lawd for the LMA) so i was particularly interested in gettin there early to check them out.
they did not disappoint. can't find a setlist but they did a beautiful cover of cassidy that the crowd seemed to love. and generally speaking, i heard alot of talk throughout the night about what a great band they were and was asked many times WHO they were. good news for the band!
music is at the root of everything in life...love, celebration, loss etc and these guys get that and damn if it doesn't come thru in their music. they all seemed to be pretty young in age but their music is really quite mature. talked with paul and dave after the show and they seemed to be real nice, down to earth guys.

rre seems to get better everytime i see them, though i don't have the pleasure of seeing them as often as i'd like:-)

07/12/07 (Thu) Rex Theatre - Pittsburgh, PA

Set 1: Cold Water, Old Dangerfield, Elko, Old Man and the Land, Shockenaw Mountain Breakdown, Moonshiner, Warhead Boogie, Dover to Dunkirk, Acadian Driftwood, Bluegrass Breakdown *, Rueben's Train *, E1: 420, Long Way To Go, E2: Railroad Earth

Comment: * with (from Greensky Bluegrass) Michael Bont on banjo, Dave Bruzza on guitar and Paul Hoffman on mandolin.

highlites for me were old man and the land and acadian driftwood. nice to see long way to go at the end rather than an opener. jmo, though.

bluegrass breakdown and ruebens train were fanfuckinstastic with both bands on stage!!! i felt like a kid on christmas morning~ big ass smile on my face. come to think of it, there were smiles all around. they definitely had a blast playing together. i really hope to see this on the lma to hear it again. there were two tapers so hopefully someone will put it up.

lude man was there (so please add to this if you read it) since i ain't the greatest reviewer!

When they came to SF and played at the Connecticut Yankee, I bought a whole bunch of cd's, gave them out as christmas gifts...they were quite literally playing for gas money to make it to the next city...

I love Tuesday Letter...great great album, It's still in regular rotation after months of listening :-)

nice review. i saw rre last summer at the dragonfly in harrisburg, and they had a bunch of guys from gsbg sit in with them on a few tunes. it was very cool, but man, what a crowded stage!
