Violent Femmes

Fillmore, SF, Ca
Opening act, True West, an 80's reunion tour out of LA, was entirely forgettable. Too tight clothes and feathered grey hair are not my thing, especially paired with bon jovi wanna-be lyrics.
The Femmes, on the other hand, kicked ass! They played all sorts of stuff, but the set was largely greatest hits. The touring band is huge! The core band was bass, guitar, drum, drum box and washboard but it swelled at times to include a full horn section, coupla saxes, 4 or so trombones, a coupla trumpets, extras guitars, xylophone, mando and even fiddle for a bit.
Pledase Do Not Go, Jesus Walking on the Water, Gimme the Car, Black Girls, I Held Her in My Arms, Gone Daddy Gone, American Music, Freak Magnet.
Saving the favorites for the end of show, Blister in the Sun, Add It Up, Kiss Off, it clocked in at two hours, promptly on time.
Jerry Harrison, keyboardist/guitarist for the talking heads and the modern lovers, sat in for a few tunes, playing the guitar and the xylophone.
Fun show, the added musicians are great, really expands on the sound of the albums, a few songs might have pushed the six minute mark--that certainly qualifies as a jam for this band! The Fillmore was full but not oppressive...the band is off to south africa next, stop by and check them out if you're in the area!
Violent Femmes!!! ALWAYS a great time!
