Great show last night in the packed Regattabar by slide guitar master (and I do mean master!) Sonny Landreth. He setlist included Pedal to the Metal, USS Zydocoldsmobile, Wild In Denver, and Congo Square. I was blown away by the man's playing.
The great thing was is that my wife and I were less than 10 feet away from Sonny, and to watch him work that guitar was something. The only pick he uses is a thumb pick, and after that he just fingerpicks with his bare fingers. As the guy next to me said, "this guy is supehuman." How he gets the sound out of his guitar with both hands seemingly going every which way, I don't know.
His vocals were good, and they played a solid 90 minute set. Outside of seeing him play with John Hiatt and Buffett, this was the first time I've seen him with his band. The only original "Goner" with him was Dave Ranson, who played a solid bass, and he had a great drummer with him (I can't recall his name),which was not Kenny Blevins who I guess has not played with him in a year.
Great show. I'll see him again in a heartbeat.
I went to the Cross Roads Clapton gig and Sonny was the opener--man has got chops. Clapton played with him a at Fitzgerald's in Berwynn 2 nights before the Cross Roads gig
Nice review.
I've had a couple chances but still haven't seen Sonny play.

I've caught him on three occasions. He blew me away every time!
