Man-oh-man. I needed a cig after this one. Smokin' is an oft overused word, but in this case accurate. Bruce has put something together here that no man should break asunder.

I recognized only the songs that were bruce's, Talk of the town, long tall cool one, Mandolin rain, and they were great. The album songs were sumptous. Great ensemble playing that dissoloved into solo sections that were effortless and stunning. McBride rules his bass. He can get great sounds and textures out of it with seemingly no effort. Wow. Now, DeJohnette has been on my list of best drummers since his Parallel Reality days. This was more subdude, but also more elegant. My 25 yr. old niece said, "You can't see his hands moving, how does he do that?? And this is the best music I've seen in my life!!". True, this was the best music she has ever seen. I take her to lots of stuff in hopes of combatting Nickelback....

Bruce. Ah, Bruce. I no way thought he could hang with these two guys. He did so with ease. Impressive. Everybody was smiles and PUSHING everyone else. Bruce ripped some very nice chromatic Monk-esque stuff that raised eyebrows. Also, although only about 10 songs were played, about 50 were teased and quoted. GOOD STUFF.

Jealousy meter is high.

I'm glad you got to see that.
I think the only tme I ever actually saw DeJohnette was the Parallel Realities tour with Metheny, Hancock and Dave Holland and it still ranks in my top 5 shows of all time.

Just love this stuff...it's what I like to hear a lot of the time. Thank you for the offer. How would you like to get my addy? Do you drink wine? A lot of Zoners don't, but a lot of zoners do.

Nice review!

I hope something from this tour circulates. . .

The album is outstanding and I'm sure that the live show was just superb.

Damn, was thinking about going to this but $50 was just a little too steep for my pockets. Did you get a box set too?

And if your 25 y/o niece ever wants a nice 26 y/o man with good taste in music (meaning I've never heard a Nickleback song) to take her out to a show...well, I'm always around SF and the Zone. Assuming she's a hottie, of course. :-)

Was lucky to catch the Bruce Jazz trio with the Dave Brubeck band at the Hollywood Bowl on Wednesday...

I dug Hornsby's set, but I gotta say that old Brubeck blew him away!

DeJohnette and McBride were excellent, but I really dont think Hornsby has the chops to hang with those dudes in a jazz setting...Was evident when comparing Brubeck's playing to Hornsby's...

I hate the chatter Hornsby brings between songs...kinda sounds like an asshole. I feel going up to him and saying...common man your not that fucking good, and if yoiu are shut up about it. They should form a band with him on key's and Victor Wooten on bass so they can blow themselves between songs. It would probably be pretty good in some way though.
