yay for the skinny singers...Phil was in the house, not surprising. It was a surprise when he played though, always a delight! He was actually concerned he might not be skinny enough
Phil came out for the encore:
E1: Gone Wanderin'
Friend of the Devil
Ripple
E2: Sugaree
I was jumping the brokedown gun...after seeing the rehearsal video, I wanted to see it! Ripple was good though.
FOTD was the best, Jackie definitely says Emily...I think maybe it's Emilie though, ode to the M.Hips song
Other familiar stuff--Mexican Girl It was cool seeing Tim play Jackie songs, since the first time I saw Jackie he was doing Tim songs, nice reversal. Baby's got a Mustache, a skinny singers tune, Baby's got a mustache, it's long as I am tall Lots of 'cowboy blues' tonight.
They did lots of stuff off of their new album, I picked it up tonight, along with the new jackie green ep, available only at the shows--yay me! I'll have more to say about that later!
The band was funny, switching bass duties all night, clearly they needed a bass player, and phil was in the crowd most of the night! Jackie gets the prize for most instruments played...guitar, bass, drums, harmonica and keys! Very bluesy when Jackie was playing lead, more country-rock-n-roll when it was Tim...
It was good! Mostly electric, which was unexpected, I sorta thought it was an acoustic thing, but they kept the acoustic to the FOTD/Ripple for the most part. Tim played acoustic a bit, but he was mostly electric, handling a portion of the bass and drum duties as well. He had some great leads during Sugaree with Jackie on keys!
Don't think they played any M.Hips songs But they might have played some of Tim's solo stuff--that was the album I didn't buy...
It's on to Santa Barbara...I'd say Jackie and Phil are both ready to take this show on the road!
emily, always doing a great job w/the reviews
Thanks for the review Emily - looking forward to tonight! I assume it will be acoustic, being out in the middle of a redwood forest and all...
Nice !
You're all quite welcome Spacehed got a bunch of pics, so hopefully you'll get the full experience!
I was wondering if the Frog & the Hippo would be returning to that fateful location! Have fun tonight, I'd love to see music out under the redwoods!
Thanks Emily, it is a magical spot regardless of the sentimental value. Music at night in the forest sounded too cool to pass up. (On the website it said to bring flashlights for the walk out.)
Any Photos??
any photos? even better! (kinda)
(these were taken with my cell phone. they are not very high quality- especially the sound. if anyone would like to see much better videos- i am accepting donations Very Happy )

ps- phil drove away in a beemer with a Obama 08 sticker..... yeah Phil!!!!!!!
No, I saw the whole show...from UPSTAIRS. I meant I only came downstairs to hit the merch booth. I was definitely there.
ok.... please explain to me why its so special to be upstairs at the Indy.
it was only about half full last night, so there was plenty of room... more room than upstairs, anyway....
and as hot as the Indy gets- its gotta be worse upstairs, right? heat rises!!!
do you get free drinks?
what gives???
i had a wristband to see Ween last fall, but i never went upstairs, didn't see the point to be super crowded, and even further away from the band.....
You're a bit taller than me...so ya know, pretend you're a foot shorter and then you have to stand behind yourself.
and the crowd upstairs is nice, when you know everyone
You're right about the heat though! I was damn hot...
ah, the height issue!
i always try to be very respectful of that... i spend the show a bit further back, or off to the side so the shorter jackie greene fanatical girls could scream and swoon. but once the encore started- i moved up front! i was just to the right of the colossus of a tie-dyed man who was dead center all show, as you can see on the videos.
btw- i talked with jackie at the end of the show- and told him "no repeats in NYC!"
"what?!?"
"i said- NO REPEATS IN NYC!!"
he just laughed and said "yeah right...."
well- at least he knows now!
can't wait for SB!!!!
We were actually talking about the lack of fanatical screaming girls last night...kinda strange, I guess a lot of them may not be 21 yet?
I thought about hanging around to get my copy of the album signed but ultimately sleep won, work always comes sooner than I want it to
Are you gonna be in colorado too?
