Never had seen GT and The Destroyers. Have an album or two I rarely play but decided to go to experience them before he turned into a nostalgia act. May have been too late. 8:00 show, no opener. $28 advance, $30 at the door.

What a cheesy sum-bitch. Video before his grand entrance talking about what's available at the merch booth. Also played Barry McGuire's "Eve Of Destruction" in it's entirety over the speakers before they came out. Then when he does come out (right on time at 8:00), it's the raised arms "Here I am, applaud like I'm a legend" thing. I was unaware he was so impressed with himself as he did that quite often. When they played the songs that were referenced by t-shirts available at the merch booth, pictures of those shirts went on the screen. I guess they'll play those 3 or 4 songs every night.

Musically, I was surprised he wasn't that great of a guitar player. His lead guitarist blows him away. When George did do a solo, it wasn't much more than face grimacing while he held a note or two. Can't say I remember a single moment where I saw his fingers racing along the frets kicking out notes. I didn't realize before he was just pretty much an OK rhythm player.

They left the stage for the first time 65 minutes into the show and it ended promptly at 9:30 after two encores. I think they played the Star Spangled Banner over the speakers as the lights came up. I was home at 9:55 (work in the AM).

I spent $40 bucks on a ticket and two beers and got to see someone I never saw before. But I'll never buy another ticket. Only way I'll see George again is if he's in a festival I'm going to.

I wouldn't say don't go see them, just wanted to let ya know what to expect.

Yep, the guy really is a one trick pony; it's amazing he's lasted all these years.

(I was worried this review would rave about him and I'd have to just cringe!)

the joke about George is that he's the third best guitar player in his band.

I saw him up in Sun Valley a few years ago and it was OK. I was surprised at how he still looks the same as he did 20 years ago.
I saw the show for free. The exiting part of the show was watching one colleague sucker punch another colleague out of alcohol fueled jealousy.

I saw him in '81 or '82 and he rocked out and kicked ass!

I guess time takes it's toll on everyone...
