New Riders of the Purple Sage
Great American Music Hall
San Francisco, Ca
November 21, 2007
The show, advertisted as 8 pm, started early with an opening set by Scarecrow, one of the sound guys with the band, playing acoustic guitar and singing. It was downright dreadful in the beginning but he warmed up nicely. The end was listenable.
The New Riders came on around 8:30, the first set was nice and long! It was great to hear some of the stuff that had been missing from DNF tour. Ronnie, the bass player, gets better ever time I see him...he's really taking advantage of playing with a couple living legends. Sadly, it wasn't such a good night for one of them--Buddy broke 4 strings in the first set, so he spent a lot of time changing strings, at key songs like Peggy-O But that's the way it goes, can't have a great night if there's no off night to compare it too.
Set 2 started about 10:30, and was cut short, at least it felt short at 11:30, seemed like the band was just getting warmed up, seemed like we were at least an hour from the end. There was still time for old buddy Bob Matthews to sit in for a tune though!
