"There is a crack in every thing. That's how the light gets in."
What an amazing performance. For a septegenarian, Leonard Cohen was incredibly spry and in fantastic voice at last night's concert at the Rosemont Theatre. He and his incredible band played a 4 encore set featuring nearly all of his best known songs, as well as some new and lesser known works.
For me, the highlight was a reworked version of "Bird on a Wire" that brought tears to my eyes with its beauty and the pure, ragged emotional outpouring of love and regret by Cohen. There were other moments of sheer beauty through the night, but for me this might have been the high point of my entire concert going life.
I could go on and on about the nuiances of each song and the tweeks and additions made to each one and how they enhanced the already stellar original work, but I don't know if I'd ever quit writing. If you have the chance to see Cohen on this tour, just go. There is nothing like it anywhere.
