Hey now! Taper Rob how's it going? A short time ago I clicked on your link to live365 to listen to the stream of Friday's 2nd set and I could not get it to play. It came up I clicked on play and no music. It just said "buy". Well I tried that too and could not buy anything either. Am I doing something wrong?
Thanks Mike B

Lots and lots of great stuff left for them to rock our world. I didn't even mention the Brent and Jerry Band breakouts.
I was astounded at the variety of tunes played on the last Dead tour, the lack of repeats and the high quality of the repeats that did occur.
Whatever they play in Asbury, I'm going to be psyched and dance my ass off. Lucky, Lucky.

From chat:
Convention Hall, Asbury Park, NJ 12/12/09 Set 1: Jam> Passenger> Greatest Story, Friend Of The Devil
Greatest Story
yeah, heard about the taper, wut was the deal? something about live video stream?
Guy had a live video stream running off of what some reports say was an iPhone, but I think sound/video quality were too good. Regardless, not sure why the band tossed him, not like people are going to decide not to buy tickets because they can catch the choppy, weak stream online or something.

Who sang Wharf Rat or did they do it as a duet like Bob and Warren did in LA during spring tour?
Looks like a great setlist. As always, many thanks Taperrob. You are a west based Deadhead's MVP.
JK sang wharf
the setlist from the soundboard
if you didn't go to Fryday's show ya got gipped.
Where there really no jams between songs from Cassidy onward? Doesn't seem logical.
>>Where there really no jams between songs from Cassidy onward? Doesn't seem logical.
Thom there were jams EVERYWHERE ....GReat Show!!!!
Anyone get stuck outside trying to get in to show? It was the biggest cluster fuck I've ever seen trying to get in! They kept hundreds of people just blocked out waiting... way into the first set too. It was a nightmare!
Can I get energy rating on a scale from 1 to 10?
First set: 6.5-7. Just a little slow at times, especially compared to CT show which was an 8.
Second set: 8.0-8.5. Plenty of energy to go around with a few very tasty jams.
I'd give the Friday CT show a slight edge over last night, mostly because the first set was better. Also big edge to the venue on Friday.

Can someone say Terrapin and Help->Slip->Franklin's tonight?
As well as Estimated, Sampson and maybe (probably not) a Dew or Comes A Time?
Overall this show had it many moments, the opener was smokin. This time Bobby nailed GSET.BE Women was also very good. Peggi-O was sweet but John did not solo in it.Saturday night had folks going donuts.
I have to say the Wharf Rat was the easy highlight, it was huge.Ship of Fools was also excellent.I have to say John is cementing his role in this band nicely.
It seemed that Phil was alittle back in the mix at points and he picked up steam as the second set progressed.Playing was good, nothing crazy and Althea was surprise seqway but they made it work.
Speedway was good, but not as cohesive as the one they played in Philly in the spring.I loved how they went in Wharf Rat, it was a stand up version all the way!!!
Golden Road was really good too and John played some sick leads.Cassidy was not as up tempo as the Fox version, but it was long and they explored it well, although it seemed many in the audience were bored by it. I liked it alot.
Viola Lee was really good and they wailed on it at points, but Phil hit this sour note at the end and it came to a complete stop. The intro into INYR was quite weak, even Jeff's solo was flat, until John blew the roof off of it.
Gloria was wild.Bob Weir is the biggest tease in the business! It was so crowded on the floor the enitre night, in the first set it was like spawning salmon, and then many folks bailed for the encore and I was able to walk right up to, 15 ft from, the stage for this one and there was so much room to dance it was crazy, as well as perfect. Bobby rants was about the lines on his hands, maybe he had his palm read earlier on the boardwalk?
Phil did say something to Bobby right after they finished the encore. It seemed to irrate Bobby and his kinda blew Phil off and Phil seem to be like it is cool dude and smiled and then gave him a hug, which Bobby did not recipocate.
I fully expect tonight to surpass this mixed bag show.
Nice review Ted.
Yeah, get in early. It's a slow entrance "system."
From an energy perspective, yeah...easily 8-8.5 in II. And I say that only because I know what the 10's can be like from the old days. Blows the doors off any recent incarnations.
The audience is really listening and participating in the energy and helping to take the music to the next level. People's ears and hearts are really open to John and are supporting his musical ideas as they intertwine with the other band members. Still some growing to do, but the ingredients for the X factor are in place. They just need to marinate and it will be popping up all over the place. Who's got my tour book?
Yeah, some rough spots along the way too. But, to quote the skier's axiom, "if you don't fall from time to time you're not challenging yourself." I'm not going to do a whole play-by-play, but....there were some single songs where you would expect there to be segues. e.g Phil played the first note of Viola at the end of Golden Road but then they took a break. Golden Road took a little while for everything to pull together, everyone wasn't right on top of it right out of the gate, etc. One man's exploratory Cassidy is another's "they couldn't lock it in and had to go around a few times." Though I loved it anyway. Rider was another tune that started from a standstill and took a while to click. And, per my comments previously in this thread, I'm a little burnt out on it anyway.
First set was short. Playin was short and ran out of steam a little. Althea was very good and very nice there. (Who's got my 2nd set Candyman?)
Just random thoughts along critical lines.
All in all I loved the show. Great music with actively engaged explorers (including the critical ingredient of participation by the audience). Much more intimate than the Hammerstien due to the layout if not actual capacity.
Frankly, I think the Phil & Bobby interaction at the end was about doing a 2nd encore. The crowd was super pumped and it was still like 10 to 12.
It was nice seeing you, Ray. I'll be in touch. Happy holidays.
For 12/13:
Need a Franklins with or without the rest of the suite (although I wouldn't complain if they split them).
Dancin' in the streets
GIMME SOME LOVIN! opener
Would love a Keep on Growing.
Need more Phil vocals (getting a little frail though they may be). I started a little WeWantPhil chant after the Golden Road. It wasn't premeditated or anything; it just came out of my mouth. Some people got in to it. Phil heard it, but clearly the setlists are all pre-done and they're sticking to them so far. Oh well. What's left of my voice and I will be happily going to the show tonight. Thankflully Feb is not too far away and I already have my tix! Get yours if you haven't already.
Believe it if you need it and only love can phil...
this is up on bt.etree now; still waiting for night before...
Was that Viola Phil bomb for real? Recording wise, I can't remember a more thunderous drop than that one.

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!
(((ears still ringing)))
The highlights were BEW and Althea. John channeled Jerry - it was eerie magical. Wharf Rat also great but not as steamin.
