Phil, Bob, Jackie and two female back-up singers. Small room, maybe 300 people, with free cookies and popcorn and bottles of water. Lots of banter between Phil and the audience. Loose and phun!
Sunny day in SF. Small line out in front of the Tenderloin School. For all of you SF'ers, the school is right next to the old (vacated) Trader Vic's. We walked by the school on the alley side about an hour before the show and could here Bobby plinging away on his electric during sound check. Oh really Bob, a little electric on a Sunday afternoon? Good.
Venue = tiny lunch room. Small stage. Wow. This was an intimate Bay Area affair. I can't remember ever seeing Phil and Bobbby in a venue this small. Any smaller and we could have fit in a class room.
No booze and no smoking inside. This is an elementary school afterall. The result was everybody puffing as much as possible in line. When Phil, Bobby and Jackie took the stage, Phil and said "It's way too quiet in here". This was followed by more silence. It was one stoned and/or well behaved crowd.
Set up was Phil on his Ritter, Jackie (sitting) on acoustic, Bobby flipping between electric and acoustic and two back up singers.
Two small speaker sets on each end of the stage. With this crowd they could have almost played acoustic with no amplification.
Came out strong with the Scarlet, Frankins. The whole set was solid but the highlight IMO was the Box to end the set. Imagine seeing Phil run thru a picture perfect Box in your living room at 4PM in the afternoon - worth the price of admission and more. A priceless gift for a school that is supposedly a very important cornerstone of a challenging neighborhood.
They gave out signed Phil posters that were left over from the last Philharmonia at the Maritime. All in all, one of those days where you look around and count your blessings.
Happy holidays. Looking forward to the big show on the 31st.
Thank you so much for taking the time to "phil" us in, which is always gratefully appreciated.
Sounds like a wonderful way to spend an afternoon!
Nice Review JP!
It was a really sweet afternoon. Thanks to the UBC for hosting the fundraiser.
Have to say, I was glad to see Jackie observing the No Smoking rules. First time I've seen him on stage without a cig...
Anyone know that name of that Jackie song? It was beautiful.

looking forward to the stealth shows..........what a great place to see them!!!!!!!!!!!
For my part it was worth the dough! So intimate. I took my mom (who hadn't seen the boys since the 70's) and it was a big treat for her. She's more into the songs themselves, esp the American beauty era so a sing along was great. We were supposed to go together to see them at the Oakland Coliseum in October '95 but we didn't get the chance. Circumstances kept her away until now, but we finally made a show together.

Happy Holidays All
Yesterday was all about the good side of our scene, without the cynicism, of which we get way too much.
Definitely a treat. Man, I dig that trio!

Thanks for the youtube link. Looks awesome. I love that Jackie song, one of my favorite of his. I was at the Phil & Friends Red Rocks show where they played it (my first time hearing it) and I fell in love with it. Thanks for sharing the video. Rob, any way of getting the show uploaded on archive or etree? Thanks for any help!
