OK at the Trocadero, an old burlesque theater in Philly Chinatown, right behind the bus station. I have no idea what to expect but I see this band is popular. Show is sold out, and this is their second show in Philly this tour.

Another R5 Productions show. They bring a shitload of new bands through town Tomorrow it is two sold out Felice Bros. shows. Snagged a cheap pair for the Mrs and me on ebay :-)

Check back a you'd latr.

OK, settled into work, so time for a review of some sort.

A solo opening act came on from about 830 till 900. I think his name was Robert Low. Very spacey ambient of voice, synth and guitar. A bit slow to develop, but nice atmospheric stuff, and a nice contrast to the next band, and within the same genre.

Explosions in the Sky came on about 940 and played one set until about 1110. The band is 2 guitars, bass and drums.

One long set with just about no stops between songs. The term soundscapes seems to fit. Some very soft slow beautiful simple searching melodies which built in intensity to some truly explosive peaks which were punctuated by feedback and unison hard hitting rhythmic chords, them dissolving into quiet.

I would say they were very good musicians, every one of them. The bass player stood centrally, and he was the leader throughout.

No vocals at all.

They reminded me of the soundscapes heard at various points in the music of My Morning Jacket, Pink Floyd, Benevento-Russo, Yes. U2, Yo La Tengo and King Crimson, among others.

Overall, very interesting. I would definitely go again, as did many last night.

Youngish crowd at this all ages show. Felt kinds old, everyone was good people.

They reminded

You should check out Godspeed You Black Emperor! and Mogwai, who were doing this kind of music long before Explosions in the Sky.

Thx. I think that some believe this band is perhaps the best one doing this music currently, filling the void left by Mogwai. I will check them out, but I really prefer old Floyd for this kind of music.
