Hey now,

I'm too tired to write much but I must say I was highly impressed seeing Jackie Greene tonight at The Fillmore. He played with two guys from Tower of Power, Barry Sless sat-in on a few, and then....finally, Phil showed up and they did a rockin' Sugaree and then Jackie's "Mexican Girl." Jackie then did a solo acoustic song to end the night.

If you get a chance to check him out, go !

Sounds killer! I missed this one at the last minute. Looks like a good set and it's always nice to see Phil dropping in.

Also Nicki "Chambly" is Nicki Bluhm now btw. She married dude from Mother Hips. great singer...and hot! Thanks for posting.

George Brooks, while a fantastic sax player, was not part of the legendary Tower of Power Horn Section.

Good job with that.

Okay, I think this is as close as I can get without hearing the show again...not positive about Animal or I Don't Live in a Dream though...

glad you guys got the horns, it adds so much to the band. Great review Emily. This show sounds so much better then the Sacamento show I saw. Phil just keeps on rocking.

It was a great show! The horns have played every bay area show I've seen since last July, so they've had lots of time to develop, they sound great and really suit the music well!

Barry Sless was definitely underutilized, but there were alotta guys sharing the stage, it was only natural. He played pedal steel which was a real treat when he was in the spotlight! Phil and Molitz just put the whole thing over the top, they were great as usual. Everyone was having a good time, smiling faces everywhere.

2 Sets was a nice treat, got some old stuff, got some of the new stuff...real high energy, rocking show. The Rusty Nail sandwich was a special treat, it was silly--not the usual vibe for a jackie show. The crowd was largely young females, something I'm not used to but I hardly noticed because a brick wall of a guy parked himself in front of me--that's not unusual. Even when I moved I ended up with a tall person in front of me. Oh well...it happens.

Wonderful evening all around, although I will say, I was hoping for more new material, I love the old stuff but I also love a constantly evolving show, hopefully Jackie'll have more of that in the future.

Great show Thursday night. Might be my favorite Jackie show to date. Cant ever complain when the music is taken to the next level. Hoping someone who taped it will put it up on Archive. Keep thinking about that Rustynail/New speedway/Rusty Nail. Would love to hear that again.

it was more like Rusty Nail > Family Tradition (Hank Williams Jr.) > New Speedway Boogie (GD) > Rusty Nail..... and yes it was AWESOME!!! :-O

I remember that he did David Gilmour's guitar part in "Shine on You Crazy Diamond" as the intro to "I'm So Gone"... just Jackie alternating the solo on the guitar answering himself with that electronic keyboard that Molitz later played. That was really cool.
