Blew off the big game 3 with the Jazz/Lakers on TV to go see folkie Vance Gilbert for about the sixth or seventh time. He slayed once again.
Great stories and banter, stellar picking, kick-ass lyrics, and a voice that moves you.
Don't know who's into folkies 'round here, but this man is incredible and deserves to have his work supported. If he gets near your town, DON"T MISS HIM!!!!!!!!!!!
Glad to see some kudos for Vance...I'm with you 100%, Slickrock! Not to mention his great wit -- there are times I think he could have also been a really good comedian, but the music world is only enrichened.

What Slickrock said!!
Speaking of his wit John, for his opener, the black man walked to the mic and started singing to an all-white audience "There's too many black folks in Utah" and repeated the line a few times before everyone cracked up.
He later repeated what he has stated before at a Utah show, "I'm the only chip in THIS cookie".
He also poked fun at the name Utah Jazz. "Utah has jazz?" he asked.
We had Vance play at our wedding in Boston in 96. We used ti see him all the time in the Boston area and asked him if he would do a few tunes at the start of our wedding--he was just great.
Love ya, Vance
"I'm the only chip in THIS cookie".
ha ha ha, that's funny!
Great anecdote, Slickrock...and that's Vance for ya! Heck, he's one of the very few chips in the Folk Music cookie to begin with (along with Ruthie Foster, Tracy Chapman, and I bet there are others).
