Jackie have any strings left?
my birthday.
have fun.
Will tonight be Skullfuck?
Sinatra said he was told it will be DeadSet with Henry Kaiser
Kaiser maybe - Deadset I think not. Most likely Wake/Mars; less likely Skullfick/Europe.
SANTANA will SHOW this weekend....just watch
Europe 72 tonight. The mother of all shows...
Wish I could be there tonight.
will he really run the string of album? the history of the grateful dead indeed. they made albums? the man is a genius.
any notes yet?
Anyone know what tonights opener is? Have they gone on yet?
i would think they are just stirring now... mulling around the edges of the stage. group meeting... release and the stroll to their music machines...
i guess they haven't been opening with jam, huh... haven't had a listen to my download yet. anyone know?
So if they open with Bertha, then it will be skull & roses and europe 72.
If they open with katie may then history one/wake of the flood
OR if they open with cumberland then maybe ALL of europe 72!
just got word,,, bertha opener
thanks lom...
i like to sing i had a hard one runnin from your window.... gives it a different spin
So, skull and roses it is. He is sticking to the discography.
Do we know who the guest players are tonight?
seems like too much material, to try and fit in skullfuck plus europe 72 in one night, plus the repeats (cumberland/sugar mag etc)
i had been hoping the last night would be 3 sets: wake of the flood/mars hotel/blues for allah
i bet he does wake 2nd set
does seem like too much material... europe 72 could be a whole night
I can't wait till Seastones!!
in terms of crowd pleasing, i'd think skipping bears choice would be a good idea
This band is built to do Bear's CHoice.
they didn't skip aoxomoxoa which clearly was not a crowd pleaser. I was there.
Remember that Skulls & Roses was a double album; therefore, almost certainly tonight's first set will not cover then entire record. Tonight's second set might be sides 3 and 4.
Waiting for the complete "In The Dark", now there's a scorcher!
that's a good point about the strengths of this particular band...the old school blues/r and b/boogie bar room swagger
How can anyone not love the Aoxomoxoa album? I'm at a loss. So twisted and fantastic.
skull and roses is only 70 min. Europe 72 is almost 2 hours
i agree there...especially love that arrangement of china cat
True, S&R's was short, but only because the mine was 1971 post Mickey jute-box dead. Phil band typically extends all. That said, first set could be the entire record (but would be brief Other One).
Yeah, it's only 70 minutes, but they could do Other One --> Not Fade Away for 70 minutes alone! Last night they did 4 record sides and made them last all night long.
I heard 3 sets tonight..Dead Set after skull and roses with Henry Kaiser.
Wonder who's soloing Right Now?
I heard three sets tomorrow night for Europe 72.
theyr in the middle of the other one, just got msg

my prior post was just the few songs my friend in attendance could recall at that time.
probably in the order of the skull and roses LP
yes, exactly the order of skull & roses
I had to extrapolate some of the song titles, so this is not completely confirmed yet...

starts to make sense when you think about some of the colorado debuts: stranger, alligator, etc...rehearsals for this run
DSO kicked some serious ass w/Alligator out here at GAMH a few weeks ago. Were you there?
wonder what tomorrow night will bring
now playing: minglewood, no bobby tonight
crazy jamming on minglewood, fully rocking out
my friend is holding up the phone
Dead Set ooh ie !
So maybe .. Who knows about tomorrow .. If we going chronilogical ...
Reckoning acoustic set tomorrow maybe ..
then touch of grey played entire second set
third set more of the same
The past few nights when they been doing 3 guitar players, does campbell grab a mandolin fiddle etc or 3 guitars mainly?
>does campbell grab a mandolin fiddle etc or 3 guitars
mostly 3 guitars
>>>>>then touch of grey played entire second set
third set more of the same
An OK tune; not one of my favorites, I hope they don't play it for an hour.
bobby showed up, wearing purple polo shirt
they are playing deal now, jackie singing
not sure if they did friend of the devil
What the heck?
Find out if they repeated FOD...
Will they repeat Candyman and Brokedown?
Last night those were perfect.
This is weird...
it is strange...first skipping a whole bunch o years, then possibly repeats..then again, lets remember they and we dont really play by the rules
candyman
rooster
loser
Speaking of strange Garrin, where the hell is Belden?
doesnt sound like bobby is singing anything so far but I think he is still on stage
"doesnt sound like bobby is singing anything so far but I think he is still on stage"
Bobby didn't sing rooster?? huh!
He must have...?!
How the fuck can there be 200 Zoners at a show and not one legit poster getting texts? Since when?
I mean he did not sing anything up to the point of rooster, I am not sure about rooster, but he did not sing samson, minglewood or loser or candyman, not sure about rooster.
"no, it did not sound like him singing it as heard through my cell phone"
huh!
although based on your comment
"legit poster"
I think I will stop posting now
have fun you all.
I guess I'm not "legit" either.
See ya~
So whats happening........set list so far please somnone
LOL ~ why do ya need a setlist when they are playing albums???
The only *legit* thing I wanna know is the guests!!!
And, btw, Carrie and Eric ~ yer doin' great!
With this drama, I must be on Ratboard.
Okay now I'm totally confused...just talked to my buddy who says a)Bobby's NOT there?!? b) last song was Franklin's....heading into drums with an additional drummer (not mickey)
Who knows...
Anyone else hearing from anyone?
What the hell's going on?
WEIRD night.
I should have just gone again. This is too much "drama".
hooray chaos!
Yeah...lame...I have to go to RATBOARD to get phil sets. LOL.
I'm trusting this until someone tells us otherwise. Looks like bobby was there for a bit...

And someone else is saying maybe John Scofield is up on stage?~
Can ANYONE CONFIRM ANYTHING tonight?~!
I still don't know if Bob was or was not there.
Chaos is right.
3rd set???
I think it must've been Henry Kaiser...and no Bobby?!...no 3rd set...but long 2nd.
Good Night!
Tomorrow night should be even more chaotic.
Fun fun.
Has the show finished?
I was there Bob wasn't I guess he could have been there I didnt' see him he didn't sing or play
BTW: Show kicked ass I don't know who the guests were
There was NO Weir.
There WERE three sets.
The guest guitar player was Henry Kaiser and on the talking drum Sikiru.
Set 1:
Bertha
Mama Tried
Big Railroad Blues
Playing In The Band
The Other One
Me & My Uncle
Big Boss Man
Me & Bobby McGee
Johnny B. Goode
Wharf Rat

Set 3: (W/ Henry Kaiser)

Fire On The Mountain
Greatest Story Ever Told
Brokedown Palace
No Bobby at all. It certainly appear that he was expected by everyone on-stage and off-stage.
Henry Kaiser was out for space>fire>greatest
so no purple polo, cut off jean shorts and pink guitar present?
That 3rd set seems tasty!
Thanks Em and Dan!
anybody else hear the Blues for Allah teases during Space?
Kaiser was brilliant, as was the much of the music.
The 3rd set was a trip, great music and a blast overall.
It's a little surprising to me (and great because I love the songs) how well Jackie does Weir's songs; Feel Like A Stranger in particular was really great tonight.
Keep 'em coming Jackie!!
Yowza!!!!!
That was one heck of a show. Light years better than the previous night. I have to eat my words in calling for a regime change. I hope this group continues to flourish.
I especially loved the weird jam at the beginning of set three.
Loser was absolutely sublime too.
gdnight... Joshua
Phil will have to extend the run fit every album in........he could be there for months..........when will it all end............bring back spontaneity
Spontaneity ??? Is that what you call having the setlist on a piece of paper taped on the stage at your feet ??? Been that way,as aforementioned, for a long long time........
>I have to eat my words in calling for a regime change.
I'll join you for that meal
Kick ass show, from start to finish. Jackie gets MVP on vocals. Take care of that voice kid. Sometimes the sum is greater than it's parts, no complaints about lack of a "lead guitar" sound last night, although when Henry Kaiser joined in for the last short set, it was ICING on the cake. More please!
Glad this is all cleared up now... If it was "light years" better than Friday (how could that be? I LOVED Friday), tonight's gonna go down in history...Damn! Who has my ticket?
Have a blast everyone!
> If it was "light years" better than Friday..
Wasn't there on Friday, but I thought it was light years better than Tuesday's show, went from bland to technicolor, imo.
wow thanks for the set list Emily,
that first set the album 'skull and roses' ?
is great,
big rail road blues, the other one, wharf rat, and the goin down the road, that looks like a GREAT first set,
and then dead set in the second, with a fell like a stranger franklins, and THIRD set ?
must of been fun
Yes, first set was Skull & Roses, released in 1971.
ckphotogirl..not that I have an extra..

i felt like it was my birthday all night long.
If you're quick you can edit your phone number out and put it in your profile, there you can leave it for now but edit it out later on with no time limit...
First set scorched. Very well played versions of GD's best album, IMHO. Wharf Rat especially so. Second set was weird, even if it WAS Dead Set... Stranger? Weird. Then the third set? Weirder, and totally broke up the energy. It was all fun and spontaneous in a Phil way, but the whole flow would have gone better with no mini-set break... The guests were good, very good, but not great additions to what was going on. The later it got, the weirder everything was.
The first set was worth the price of admission. Barring the most beautiful "Brokedown" I've ever heard, the rest of the second/third sets was forgettable. Definitely the night to miss out of all of them... but still fun all around. No complaints about the band. They're tight, rehearsed, and good enough now to cover each other's mistakes. But Dead Set was just a weird choice, I guess...
Weird is Dead - weird is good.
Point well taken, and Phil is the wierdest of them all...
rather than post a detailed review, i'll take a different approach: namely ... here's a bunch of video snippets from 5/17/08
see http://www.youtube.com/user/philsisson
there you can find 20+ clips (mostly arranged alphabetically, rather than chronologically), each averaging about a minute (given the available memory on the camera i was able to get into the warf, i elected for song breadth as opposed to song depth)
not everything in the setlist is there ... but most is
enjoy ... and perhaps cobble your reviews (or refresh your memories)
fwiw, i had set 1 as 8:37p-10:07p, set 2 as 10:55p-12:17a, and set 3 as 12:45a-1:25a ...
any insights re whether there might have been a guest who cancelled at last minute? center mike (eventually taken up in set 3) had music stand set up til right at start of set 1 ... and it seemed like a few more audibles were being called (both on stage during sets and at back of stage before & in between sets) than during other nights
(i did not attend friday, so didn't see the stage config previously)
Those Youtube videos are really good.
Thanks.
I did sense that they were waiting for someone (Bobby is my guess) in the first set and for much of the second set. They waited for a few minutes before Me and Bobby McGee, and made a call to go to Big Boss Man before finally giving up and going into Me and Bobby McGee. In the second set it really seemed like they were waiting for help on the Minglewood and Rooster. There was the rumor of Henry Kaiser being there for the whole Dead Set...maybe he was delayed big time.
I can't believe they are closing this place the nachos are fuckinig EPIC!!!
more thanx 4 the vids. nice seeing who was singing and soloing. never would have guessed it was jackie on the jam into other one if i just heard it.
we need a daily digest when there's shows..;-}
Sisson
Thanks for the videos, they are great!
I thought the show was red hot. Tunes for Jackie to really get down with. He sang his heart out! They were loose and having fun and it showed.
happy to post the vids ... great if you r a zoner with a.d.d. & want to do your concert in 20 min (less hard on the system than uppers)
fwiw, i will post a review after caught up on sleep
Loose Lucy/West LA Fadeaway
The veggie burritos are great and huge! Jackie Greene show tonight folks! Thought first set was smokin'! My friend told me Skull and Roses, but these other people insisted on Wake/Mars/Blues for Allah. Dead Set I ran out of gas again, but poor Jackie, he was singing every song! Usaully Bob and Jerry alternated, but this poor kid was rockin' out! I dig him so much, the way he moves from keyboards to guitar and vice versa. Henry Kaiser was great, I don't agree with earlier post saying it was the show to miss. I actually thought of doing that and saving my energy for Sunday, but I am glad I didn't. BEST FRANKLINS'S TOWER EVER! Anyone else agree! They just tore the roof of the sucka! The floor was going crazy during Frankiln's Tower. I was in fourth row of balcony all night, and had the best leg room in the whole place! Jackie did great on the vocals, and I dug Big Boss Man! I think Larry sang that one. Bertha opener was killer! Other One was cool and different from first night. I dug how there were no guests the first two sets, I thought that gave the band a chance to show us what they were made of. Some times the guests throw the energy off, but I didn't think that was the case with Henry Kaiser! He played some killer guitar tonight! I thought I could see Sikiru sitting behind Molitz's keyboards, and I was right, can't wait to see him with Mickey's band on June 6th in Santa Rosa! Sat next to a cool guy who saw the band play in 1971 in Minneapolis. He asked me if I had aniy thoughts on third set, and I told him they haven't done Fire On The Mountain from Dead Set yet, maybe that is coming. I was so into the third set, I forgot to get downstairs early, and they ran out of posters two people in front of me. Oh well, there is always tomorrow night. Great show tonight, went to 130am. See you for the grand finale, I hope I can get some sleep before then, love BruceEdwardWeber(eddieboy)!
again, I loved the show... it was phenomenal. My only complaint though was that they did a fast version of friend of the devil. I would not have minded half as much if they had not done a fast version the night before.... and the friend of the devil on Dead Set is a slow version. It was still played well... I just really love the slow beautiful versions of that song.
what a night. i thought the show was great, but i think the band sounded tighter on friday.
These shows sound amazing! And I thought Phil brought the heat during the Nokia run! This lineup is really starting to gel.
They were tighter on Friday, it must have been nice to have a night off! Bruce
I loved this show, but not the way I loved Friday's show...Perhaps it was because I never really had an emotional connection to these albums that I had with Workingman's Dead, and American Beauty...and context was a big part of the weekend...Perhaps it was the different vibe on the floor versus the more relaxed vibe of the balcony...Seein' the zoners all together like that was great, but it's a wee bit territorial down there for my tastes...I actually think it's easier to mingle in the balcony...Anyways...I probably would have preferred the Wake of the Flood/Mars Hotel/Blues for Allah option better...Still, what we got was played very very very very well, and I got my Phil...
Got a copy of this show last night recorded with KM 54's, it sounds killer! Bruce
