While I'm psyched about seeing the band play at the Masonic Hall, I'm going to miss hanging out at the Throckmorton every night. It's got a great vibe and the staff are wonderful. One last night at the Throck! We may never pass this way again.
You are lucky no matter where they play, you're in. I'm exhausted from hitting the refresh button 1000's of times. Maybe they'll add more shows???? Hope someone adds vid of Magnolia Mtn. PS: Agree re: JK learning. People, give him a break, he's the bomb!!
Grateful Dred
last night at the throckmorton will be special, but monday and tuesday will be special, too--and a smaller crowd.
I am struggling to get my head around the concept of an even smaller hall!!! Great Jumpin Jeebus!
The room is smaller than the Throck, but it feels significantly smaller because of the lower ceiling and because it doesn't fill up like the theater.
I loved the Masonic two weeks ago, but now I love the Throckmorton more.
can see the boys much better at the throck due to raised stage, but masonic has a more intimate small party feel, like you're at a neighbor's wedding party...
Both amazing
Because she looked behind her...looking for the Gomorrah tonight
You lucky Westies! I hope you all enjoy the show tonight!
oh me too Mr. jahk2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
'causehe lookedbe hind her
beeee causeshe lookedbe hiiiind her
I wonder how they blew it up or if they burned it down
YOu know, they didn't play One More Saturday Night yesterday. Maybe they'll open with it, just to mess with us
UN-F'ING BELIEVABLE!!!!! I just randomly clicked on the Further link and the red "buy tickets now" box was on for tomorrow. I jumped and got it. Holy shit, I'm slapping my head, just can't believe this is real. WOW!!!!
Awesome Jaybee!!!!!!
part of the magic
Set list anyone? thx
"part of the magic" - the weird thing about this is that I was at the guitar show at the San Rafael Civic today. I turned around and JK was standing there. We ended up talking for around 5 minutes. What a totally nice and laid back person, especially to talk with a stranger like that. When I left I had a feeling like I'm not quite done with these guys yet. Go figure?!
Set list?
Nice serendipity, Jaybee.

epic show!
Phil had his bass lights on tonight :-) I love the lights and I love you Phil!!
Joe Russo had a great show - really got it all during KSM and the UBC jam.
JK is really growing on me, liking him more and more every show!
Got chills looking at that second set for some reason. St. Stephen/ Eleven opening, then I really like the looks of King Solomons Marbles (they've been doing that well when I've seen it recently), followed by Unbroken Chain!, and it sounds like there was a nice jam in there? again.... lucky Westies!
Then I thought when did I hear KSM.... in Hartford with the "dead", last year. I guess it left an impression.
Karen
Thanks for pointing out the tasty licks coming from Joe Russo. I couldn't agree more. This band is really starting to gel into a tremendous outfit. Another terrific show!
Phil arrived in a sweet silver Ferrari last night. No wonder they have guards in the theatre parking lot!
was he driving it or was someone driving him?
Saw the 3 Fox, 2 NYE, and 8 of the Mill Valley Shows.... last night was the best of the bunch.
This sections was pretty much as good as you can imagine...

Phil was driving himself. As far as JK learning,he wasn't learning last night BABY-HE WAS TEACHING US ALL HOW TO HAVE A GREAT F#$%ING TIME! My friends said they would go back to the standard one set,but I knew better. Last night at Throckmorton,charge$150,this was no rehearsel, this was a show, and a great one at that! I am glad I made that menatl sacrifice!!!!!
Thanks for holding me up during Wharf Rat Lance!
WHARF RAT WAS INCREDIBLE! ONE OF THE BEST I HAVE SEEN OF ALL TIME! "Wondered downtown,no where to go but just to hang around". This was the great town of Alamo,California, where I grew up in in the 1970's,before all that yuppie scum showed up,Bruce!
hey zoners.. first post here, finally left the ratdog.org because all i was doing was argueing with people about JK * they call him fake jerry, and i was getting pissed*
anyway, good to see how this run of shows fused in and out of one another. I saw the first three and they were the most amazing experiences ive had, wating in line all day was well worth it to be right in front of our man for three nights! BUT they havent played mountains of the moon at all, you guys think they'll break it out at the masonic or holding out for tour??
I would love to hear Mtns of the Moon!
yea me too... they're playing all these other songs that havent been broken out in years.
I wonder who would sing it, i personally would want to hear phil sing it because over the years, I feel as if he made this one of his own. but im sure others would like to see where JK can take it, not sure... Thoughts??
JK sounds so much like young Jerry that I'm always curious to hear his renditions of late '60's and early '70's Dead tunes originally sung by JG. That said, I agree that Phil has done a fine job with vox on this particular tune and I am always pleased to hear him sing it. Either way it's a treat!
I love Mtns of the Moon. When I was at the Dead 09 show in Worcester - several people around me asked me what the song was because they'd never heard it.
Clearly not Philheads...
yea, i got wayy too drunk at that show, sprained my ankle and could not appreciate mtns thats night...
havent drank at a show since and everything has been mighty green and good!!
and if those people don't known mtns of the moon, theyre not even deadheads.
Last night as the band came out, Phil noticed a little blonde girl (perhaps 1 and 1/2 yrs old) wearing a pink dress and angel wings sitting on her father's shoulders about 5 feet in front of him.
"I hope your little angel has earplugs!" Phil said to much applause.
Lots of youngsters at the show last night - the place had a real family-friendly feel to it.
First off - that was an amazing "rehearsal" (er, show). That 2nd set was worth twice the price of admission alone.
High points:
Here Comes Sunshine - particularly the jamming once it got going -- actually seemed a bit slow and rather tentative at the beginning. However, it seemed to gel rather in the middle and during the jams. Into...
Jack Straw - that was probably the high point of the first set for me. Phil was dropping some serious bombs and this was rocking like some of the great versions of the 70s and 80s. Place was going absolutely bonkers! Really sweet!
The first notes of the St. Stephen. I thought they were going to play it last night, but then I thought I heard a Scarlet happening - glad I was mistaken! Always cracks me up the way Phil kind of rushes the tempo during the last lines of the "Lady Finger" bridge. He was so pumped to get the pace going again he almost jumped out of his shoes. Great transition into a mini-Millenium Jam/Eleven. The Eleven was great, if perhaps a bit on the shorter side (not really sure as I had to deal with some chatterers -- for the love of God!! It's the Eleven - STFU!!).
King Solomon's Marbles - you could hear this was going to happen once the drummers started doing their little intro. I always want to hear this one, and it was a very welcome surprise. Had some moments that seemed a little tentative, but was great, just the same. Really nice playing by all during the complicated transitions towards the end.
Unbroken Chain - this was another great version like they'd played earlier in the run. Clearly, this song doesn't need much rehearsing. This may have been the highlight of this set for me, as it really had some great transitions during the solo sections. JK played some really nice leads and Phil was, uh, Phil!! Nice stuff!
Overall, seeing last night made me feel quite a bit better about missing Saturday's show. Can't always get what you want, but...
Was it just me or did they speed up the tempo halfway during Jack Straw as well?

COMPLETE AGREEMENT!
& nice review!
Did anyone else notice bobby doing some exploding head signal during St Stephen...like it was so intense it was blowing his mind....?
>Was it just me or did they speed up the tempo halfway during Jack Straw as well?
Wasn't you. They totally upped the tempo. Quite funny actually.
"Was it just me or did they speed up the tempo halfway during Jack Straw as well?"
that moment cracked me up!! Bobby set the tempo waaaaay too slow, and just when Jeff hit the keys for the solo, Phil looked at Joe and motioned for a cranked up tempo.... and Joe pretty much exploded at the kit!! Most emotion and playing from him that I've seen during all Furthur shows I've seen...
and he didn't let go of that drum spirit... I think the drum section was not planned, but Joe and Jay started banging on the drums while the others were turning and just kept on playing. Bobby turned around to watch Jay, Phil was beaming at Joe, and then Phil motioned for Joe to bring the tempo down just a bit... they kept jamming, building the drums, and then POW! into the King Solomons!! huge grin on everyone's faces- oh yes!!!!
Actually Boog they have been playing KSM with a drum intro. Did this at the Fox and 12/30. This one had a longer intro, but not it was planned.
Welcome to the dance (pl)
