Good show last evening at Lupo's. Billy seemed really into it and was wailing away on those skins. He's a machine.

Does anybody have a setlist from last evening and what they ended with? I left a little after 12:00 and am curious.

If my memory serves me correctly, they played Franklins, Sugaraee, The Other One, and a nice Help-->Slip. I really thought they found their groove with their own songs. Had a fun time and looking forward to the Roxy next thursday. I'm taking the train into town this time so I can booze it up.

Got home real late and figure that I won't be getting too much work done today.

Thank god for the zone.

Looks like a fun setlist...where do the non-dead songs come from, are they Max Creek songs?

That is a good question Emily. I'm not quite sure.

Does anybody know or have information?

After looking at some old Max Creek setlists I found that Chains of Life is an original MC Song. I imagine the others are too, but can't confirm that.

"Yellow Moon" has been performed by the Nevilles. "Mercury Blues" has been performed by David Lindley and The Steve Miller Band, among others.

billy is really an amazing drummer, it'd be great if he sits in w/phil at the vibes. I think they are at vibes also.

Yellow Moon
Words and Music by Robert Hunter

Anxious hope and thoughts of love
Will never let me down or let me go
Inside, my heart's a cage of ice
Where love and loss still toss the lonely dice
I burned the whole night long
My thoughts were never far from you
Love that locks and binds must die
But when it dies a part of you dies too

Chorus
Born, born, born upon the world
The restless heart keeps flying
Trying to become the heart of home
Love, love, love, it picks you up
And spins you round
Sets you right back down where you belong

I don't fit my hat sometimes
It gets so full of clouds
Every time I pass your door
I hear you cry out loud
Sometimes I look the same to you
As you have looked to me
My eyes get filled so full of stars
I don't know when I leave

[chorus]

Love is like the April rain
That makes the harvest grow
And when it grows it's
Like the summer gold
Love is like the coloured leaves
That drift down from the trees
One by one 'til every tale is told

If I go a-dancing out across the yellow moon
I'll be home by morning if it doesn't come too soon
If you seek protection go and find a safer man
And if he can't give you what you need
Then come on by again

Priestess of the sun and moon
And goddess of the wind
You know too much to ever lose
And not enough to win
Though you built your house upon the rock
And not upon the sand
You're still looking out your window
For another traveling man

[chorus]
Yes it's love, love, love that picks you up
And spins you round
Sets you right back down where you belong

Not that Yellow Moon, this one:

Yellow moon, yellow moon,
why you keep peeping in my window?
Do you know something I don't know?
Did you see my baby
walking down the railroad tracks?
You can tell me if the girls
ever coming back.

Is she hid out with another
or is she trying to get back home?
Is she wrapped up in some other's arms?
Or is the girl somewhere all alone?
Can you see if she is missing me,
or is she having a real good time?
Has she forgotten all about,
or is the girl still mine all mine?

Chorus:
With your eye so big a shiney
You can see the whole damn land
Yellow moon can you tell me
If the girl's with another man?

Refrain:
Oh yellow moon,
have you seen that creole woman
You can tell me,
Now ain't you a friend of mine.

Chorus

Cruel World is a Max Creek original, an older one. Chains of Life is the newest Creek original, I think it was first played in 06.

Yellow Moon is a Neville Brothers song Max Creek has been covering for about a decade now. Mercury Blues is a longtime cover for Creek, and Mas Y Mas is a classic Los Lobos butt-kicker.

Who all's in the band?

Listening to the second set from Scott's website right now- not very impressed, although it's nice to hear Billy playing. My favorite Dead era is when it was just him on drums. I like the loose and fun energy they bring- must be fun if you are drunk- and some interesting jam interplay during Estimated, but they need a fourth instrument- ie, keyboards, and stronger vocals on most of the tunes (Scott is great for estimated though)- maybe consider adding Barraco to the band. Can't hear Oteil in the mix at all but assume he's playing too.

And still listening as they coast through Eyes- Scott's playing is fantastic and is locked in tight with Billy's great drumwork- still can't hear oteil but if he's up in the live mix it must sound pretty hot at the venue- I still think they need another melodic instrument though. Worth checking out if they come to your local venue I think- and better than recordings I've heard of P&F right now- think PFQ w/Warren and Jimmy but when Jimmy would go off with really fast leads in clean tones. Scott's vox are improving as the set wears on- the reggae-ish tunes are the weak point IMO. Nice to hear a good guitarist just go off on Dead covers. Wish I could hear the bass!
