“What’s the difference between a duck? Both legs just the same”
That's just about it. Every now and then Bob will get into a heavy intro.... But the punchline is always the same.
Do I get the joke?... No.

Who is Taper Rob? Why does he have such clout. Why does everyone kiss his butt? I ask a simple question about how the band is playing and he blows me off. There were only 3 people in the chat...Then as if to say FU logs off. Whats the deal? I have seen 200 or so Grateful Dead shows, and try to provide insightful comentary when possible. WTF!
easy now
Nice list so far.
stat dropper
Didnt meen to drop stats, just want the same decent consideration of a reply. Not to much to ask
Terrapin
Phil
just repeat the following a few times and you'll feel better:
I guess it doesn't matter anyway
or to quote John Belushi:
It just doesn't matter! It just doesn't matter! It just doesn't matter!
just dont want to be treated with less respect than I give. Gave the stat only to qualify that Ive been around and understand for a long time the DH spirit.
Thanks Decon...I am tryin! Peace
I don't know you, and I don't know Rob. I do know Rob's been keepin us updated on here for a long time. I don't think anybody is kissing his ass, I just think most of us appreciate somebody keeping us up to date. As for his log off- as you said, there were 3 people in chat- he's apparently at the show. Would you be chattin with people on the internet at all if you were at the show? Lighten up and stop thinking the world rotates around you. We all like the boys and we all want to have a good time. Rob isn't your personal musical sherpa and he isn't being paid, so give him a break and let him log on and off when he pleases- without a hassle.
The Dalai Lama said "hate is a disease we give ourselves". IOW, sometimes we suffer only because we choose to do so. When we learn to let it go (let it grow, wild and free) we unburden ourselves.
Peace, brother!
you get confused listen to the music play...
just enjoy
About the duck joke, yeah, at the Throckmorton Bobby did this nonsensical intro to the duck joke saying this was a joke Jerry told him. He rambled on and then the equipement got fixed and he said he'd finish it "tomorrow night," but never did. My teenage daughter was with me and thought he'd lost his mind due to old age...haha!!!
Hey, Iam not like that...last night and most MR. Rob is very chatty. I didnot ask obscure question just how they doin...personal musical sherpa, nasty...
Yeah, TRob gets respect around here bc he really comes through when he tapes shows. Hooks up streams after the sets are over, takes pics and posts when he can. He can be short in the chat room, but that's just his style. I wouldn't take it personally.
I smoke two joints
and then I smoke two joints
and then I smoke two more
they call me mellow fellow
quite rightly
From the Toltec Book of Wisdom
2nd of the 4 Agreements:
Don't take anything personally.
Nothing others do is because of you.
What others say and do is a projection of their own reality, their own dream.
When you are immune to the opinions and actions of others,
you won't be the victim of needless suffering!

amen..Goodnight all...sorry for rant... peace
no worries
1st No More Do I in quite awhile?
Did you see the photos Rob was taking last night during the show? He was even taking requests. You can't beat that. (Not that I'm kissing his ass, but he offers up some gems from time to time)
any live video or chatroom on ustream going?
Big Dave , Thanks for that quote not familiar w Don Miguel Ruiz
but sounds solid just right
Don Miguel Ruiz, def solid. check it out.

"no more do I" debut 11/17/2001 - Beth., PA
Last night had IT going on for the most part - a complete 180 from my experience in Fairfax.
Nice to see the band, always.
Security was stoopid. Way to slow and thorough, then when show started they just let people in with anything. A lot of people got in late.
Overall, the sound was great, but the band was played out, imho. Normally fun and easy tunes dragged, including Nex Time You See Me, etc.
There were some highlights for sure.
The No More Do I was actually not bad with a good jam into and out of it. The Row Jimmy was also very good with a groove all its own, kinda reggae-ish. The Gloria was rockin'.
Joe Russo is a great drummer, plays with such ease and righ on tempo.
Bob's banter was classic. He once again tried to tell a joke and blew the punchline. I really enjoyed seeing that. Brings back a lot of memories from classic Bob bantering over the years, lol.
Otherwise, many of the tunes dragged noticeably, akin to many a GD show from the 1980s. My 11 year old asked why they didin't choose better slow songs, lol.
Still, even my wife, who was skeptical about this band, saw that this is a collection of musicians worth checking out again.
We'll be at AC and looking forward to that!
a variation on the duck joke Bobby told last night:
Duck walks into a supermarket and looks around for the manager. When he finds the manager he waddles up and says, "Hey! You got any gwapes?"
The manager says, "No. I don't got any gwapes."
Next day, the duck walks into the supermarket and looks around for the manager. When he finds the manager, he waddles up and says, "Hey! You got any gwapes?"
The manager answers, "NO! I don't got any gwapes!"
Next day, duck walks into the supermarket and looks around for the manager. When he finds the manager, he waddles up to him and says, "HEY! You got any gwapes?"
The manager stops what he is doing and yells at the duck. "NO! I don't got any gwapes. You come in here tomorrow and ask me for gwapes, I'm gonna staple your feet to the floor!"
Next day, the duck walks into the supermarket. He looks around for the manager. When he finds the manager, he waddles up to him and says, "HEY! You got any staples?"
The manager says, "No. I don't got any staples."
Duck says, "Good! You got any gwapes?"
I don't know if this is the right place to put it, but here is my recording from last night

began at the Funhouse, power went out, drinks in the dark....pretty big shakedown at stabler, beers, shirts, glass, food etc even with it snowing...my first shakedown in the snow, sooo cool with my nice electric buzz....no one there at first all the room to groove, saw at least 10 people i havnt seen in years, i love that....
great 'golden rd' opener, alot of energy first set, yes some weir vocal moments, but his rythym guitar never failed, always strong power off chords... seemed he changed guitars ever song...i hated that everyone talked suddenly when 'magnolia mt' came up because they didnt know the song, lame ass people around me on the floor at times up front floor phils side, actually ruining my experience by bashing into me or f@#$*king TALKING... SHUT THE F@#$*K UP...after 30 years it still amazes me that people talk so much, its a musical concert people, you have to listen, or why are you there?....at least my brother and buddy we were all together and were sushing people in tandem so it was ok....
and last peev, i know we are all happy trippy flying our freak flags dancers, but why do crazy dancers get all dancy in your face and want you to dance with them? if im not interested, move on...dont keep getting in my face
'passenger' lacked the power i hope for but still groovy...they played 'passenger' 9 years ago here, with the Q 11-17-01 and it was so much better i hate to say, but enough missing the greatest band ever maybe, long remember the Q!
vibe was lame at first of 2nd set, 20 min of technical diff....lame spacey joke by bobby, we knew he'd blow the punch line, but thats why we, or i at least love bobby, no one else like him, his screw ups are what makes him unique...finally the 'bertha' took off and the place warmed up again , but it took a while, and its weirs guitar work i really appreciated during the classic part of the show to me, and phil was rumbling so jazzy, smiling at JK alot, they seemed to connect, phils light saber was lit up all night, he really played well, phil wasnt so power hungry, letting weir drive the train at times, but then taking the lead during the jams, best work was during the real quiet part of 'terrapin'.... he and JK were so subtle, of course people were talking, but it was the such delicate playing i really appreciated here, the space between the notes, beautiful song and well done by phil etc, nice and slow... not the fast versions phil used to do, which i liked also...
i barely noticed jeff, but he still did well, great drum tandem, russo is great... but this is why i keep coming, every show has one segue that makes it all worth while...
Row Jimmy
Reuben and Cherise>
Sick nasty jam>
No More Do I>
more deep jamming jams>
Eyes of the World>
mini jam>
Terrapin Station...
still lame ass people then rushed into our area, stood right the freak in front of me, at least move the the side a little... ruined the 'wheel' etc for me...hard drive home all pugged in with the snow, scary, icy....the snow was too distracting coming down... finally home at 2... great shower, listened to a hot gd CASSETTE, 'space>foolish' heart from 92, had some champagne and finaly driffted off ...great night overall!
edit
Was it me or was the vibe on the floor terrible. Everywhere I moved to, I was faced with drunken/ drugged out fools it seemed; the ones I am speaking of appeared to have no interest in the music and were there to make noise and get f-ed up. Anyway the music was very good, Eyes was incredible. I have never left a show early, but last night I really wasn't feeling the scene and I skipped out before the encore.
the floor was tough last night....everytime id get into a musical space, someone would yell in my ear, or slam into me....im too old i guess, but as said the music was great, i loved it...

Dear Talkers and Drunk People
You need to stop getting drunk at shows!.. that can be done at home with an ipod. Be respectful for the people who actually want to experience the music. I PROMISE you that the state of transcendence you can enter from this music alone is INFINITELY times better than getting drunk or sucking on those stupid balloons.
Sincerely, a disappointed head
cant believe the dumb f---- if u don;t like us dancing go see a broadway show for f--- sake.
Floor was great 8 rows deep in front of phil everyone was getting down or standing still wtf.
Wish more people understood we dance........thats part of the experience, if u dont want to deal with it, seems like there were alot of seats in the researved section available. Gimme a f------ break!!!!!
The music was great. Everything else sucked. The line to get in was a joke. the parking was aweful. And, jerks completely boxed my car in. When they came to their cars, I asked what F they were thinking. They had the balls to ask me why I didn't nicely ask them to move their car. If I were 20 yrs younger, it would have gotten ugly. But, at an older age I had the sense to think before I acted. Some people can be so inconsiderate that it baffles me. Hopefully Atlantic City will be better. It can't get any worse.
I just want to catch a better show in person. I've been to Hammerstein night one and now Stabler. Planning on AC and maybe Delaware. Hoping one of those shows will be more consisitent. Can't jump on tour, so I play Tour Roulette!
I am not talking about the dancers. I am referring to those who could barely stand who were wandering around at the back of the floor, talking and screaming and rudely bumping into people. Believe me, there was alot of this trash.
who sang the Black Peter?
I can never think of 2-18 without thinking of Maritime Hall, San Francisco 2001. Made the "trip" from CT. Have to share the setlist. Next to Wallingford this past December with Further, this was in my top 5 all time post Jerry experiences.

I often ask myself what is better ... Sex or 2/18/01?
Maritime...best 4 show run ever!
I am glad somone remembers! My twin brother and I went together as he lived in Berkely at the time. It was magical in a very small arena. When I met Phill I thanlked him for all the gfreat times and reminded him about this show. Maybe he was pulling my leg but he remembered and agreed it was oone of the best. Get a listen if oyu can everyone...
<<<Sex or 2/18/01
sex at 2/18/01???
Sounds like a bunch of washes up jaded heads can't remember how it used to be...............
I also remember those Maritime shows. Amazing
sorry to say but bobby sang black peter.
sorry to say but bobby sang black peter.>>>>
no it was not the greatest, but not horrible either....he did nail the row jimmy though, dont know why he cant all the time?
becasue he's Bob Weir thats why!
yes not horrible. i was standing in the concourse and couldt tell who was singin but enjoyed the slooooooow tempo and the sound at that place was pretty good. Loved the slide in row jimmy. Twas sweet!
Bob was fine on Black Peter and Row Jimmy, but he really needs to back off the "Inspiration" section of Terrapin. It's cringe inducing. JK needs to sing that.
Bobs not fine on any Jerry song
sounds to me a lot of cringe worthy moments involveing bob. i dont ever want to hear him sing black peter!im hearing a lot of "it wasent that bad "remarks .killing the flow with dog songs ect. ect.
It was still a WAY better show than Fairfax, VA on 2/13/10.
"it wasent that bad ">>>>
this is only realative to Weir, in the scope of things its one of the best live acts all around our there, the Weir fuck ups are all we seem to talk about, its only like 10% of the show, so 90% is great, not bad odds to me...my fav live acts right now
1. phish = nobody puts on a better show
2. mule = warren is the best too me
3. anything GD related, phil, bobby, mickey, billy, dso etc...i get off on the GD stuff
I think it should be pointed out that back in the day the talk on the lots was always about how (dare I say it) that Jerry was !@#$ everything up. Comments after shows almost always turned to Jerry played this wrong, sang that wrong etc..
I guess my point is that looking back it really wasn't that bad, In fact I miss him more than any man I haven’t met personally. Bob has moments where he shines. At times on this tour and during the spring tour I’ve heard him perform better than I ever have.
Given the long strange trip, the endless hours, days even years of magical music performed by all incarnations of the Grateful Dead and various side projects I personally will not be “rating” the boys. I will be soaking up every note I can get my hands on.
I like to think they are all dynamic.
Without dynamics, music lacks the emotion behind the musical thought.
Just my opinion
Though highly unlikely I would enjoy this incarnation playing “I second that emotion”
Because if you feel like loving me I second that emotion!
I will be soaking up every note I can get my hands on. >>>>
well said
Bobs not fine on any Jerry song>>>>
WORD!!!
"I will be soaking up every note I can get my hands on" Agreed.
Many of us have doing this a long long time. And many of us have felt at one time or another that these shows could never happen again. And here they are. Can't we just appreciate that fact that these guys are still working and doing this? Can't we appreciate that in 1988, we had to endure 50 thousand people stadium shows and now we are experiencing the music in 3500 seat small college arenas. It¡¦s special no matter how you cut it. Of course Bobby is not going to be as good on one night as he is the next night. If these guys were ¡§on¡¨ every night, the only variance in a show would be the set list. The audience would be solely responsible for creating the energy, and it would be really high because every show would be great. That¡¦s unrealistic however and these guys are human. The entire thing is dynamic and somewhat of a 40 year amoeba. As an earlier poster noted ¡§show routlette¡¨ is part of the fun. I have been at special shows, and I have been at stinkers. And guess what, the stinkers were still better to me than sitting home and missing it.
Phil is going to be 70 in three weeks. How much longer do we all think we can expect to see this music live with a real connection to its original heritage? This stuff will live forever, but it will be carried on and passed from generation to generation and re-interpreted along the way. We are the people that have been there from the beginning, the most fortunate, and the most privileged to have been able to participate in something like this. It will never be created again, and although it has recovered many times and been re-invented over the years, comparisons to previous existence seem mundane, given that through natural causes, we are at the end of the line man.
I feel blessed to have been a part of this thing and will continue to soak up every note I can get my hands on as well. When I leave a show I feel jazzed. And I come on these sights hoping to share that.
I just wish there wasn¡¦t so much negativity and bickering. It seems so counterproductive to what we all seek in this thing, and the complete opposite of why many of us are here in the first place.
As for the show . . . it was great and satisfied my need to see - just one more. At least until it was over.
When are the Summer tour dates being announced?
well put.. i've been thinking that since about 1983.
looking forward to delaware and ac
