She does bring good energy to the band..... I did not care much for her vocals at the beginning of the tour but she has tightened them up since the tour has progressed.

I have been digging that run from unbroken chain till the end of the show!! I think Boston has been the best show of the tour so far IMO

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of page Link to this message  By Tom (Wabisabi) on Sunday, July 06, 2008 - 11:20 pm: Edit Post

Another Eyes>Wheel... sounded like Phil traversed back through the tail end transitional part of Franklin's, like when they come out of of a Frank jam...

Mmmm, love when Molo and Phil get that doubletime a-rolling!

OH.... Forgot all about Chicago.... for full show I would agree that one does take the cake. For set 2 Boston is still on top of my list too.

I really wish Columbus would nat have had PA issues and some good tapes would have came out of it because it really was smokin' throughout. Passenger was just amazing, High time very tight, IMO best Bertha of the tour cumberland was JAMMED packed, and a stellar St. Stephen>other one>wheel>scarlet. that shows was filled with a lot of improv jams also since the guys had a lot of the equipment put away after the storms.

From a site about Larry's instruments: http://members.cox.net/larrycampbell2000/instru.ht m#A

...often confused with the bouzouki even among musicians who play these instruments.

Larry plays what is technically known as a cittern, but it's just as often referred to as an Irish bouzouki. The one he plays is made by Stefan Sobell.

Thx, I'll look for the AKGs in the meantime, they can turn out a very nice tape, I used to run them, though I agree, not my fav.

Still Vernon Downs Phish in '98 right before the great Lemon Wheel, AKG 480 >BeyeDynamic 100 turned out the best tape of the whole pit imho.

Very tight, accurate mids- and highs, not so much on the natural bass... thus, not ideal.

Course all those great tapees mad ein the 80's with the AKG Shotguns! Ol'Skool!

Doesn't ">" indicate some sort of jam anyway? I never got the overuse of "jam" unless its to start a set or from a dead stop into a song.

Maybe it's just me...

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of page Link to this message  By Tom (Wabisabi) on Monday, July 07, 2008 - 12:16 am: Edit Post

Hmmm. I'd have to hear it again E... *o) Definitely a protracted segue into Mtns... then again it always seems to take longer getting there than it actually does.

There definitely was an exceptional amount of time spent in MOTM, most jammed out I remember hearing it.

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of page Link to this message  By Tom (Wabisabi) on Monday, July 07, 2008 - 12:17 am: Edit Post

I'm with Onthebus on this one... ">" comprises many a splendid thing.

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of page Link to this message  By Ekoostikal (Ekoostikal) on Monday, July 07, 2008 - 12:18 am: Edit Post

to me > indicates seamless flow of one song to another could be called a jam but I know on a lot of phil setlists they have "jam" listed... I think mostly if it is just a pure improv jam and not necessarily a song "theme" extended jam..... that is always how I looked at it anyway. I am sure everyone sees it differently though

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of page Link to this message  By Jack (Darkstar71) on Monday, July 07, 2008 - 12:19 am: Edit Post

Yeah , I always thought > was enough unless it was something like the Molitz Jam thing a couple nights ago...

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of page Link to this message  By Ekoostikal (Ekoostikal) on Monday, July 07, 2008 - 12:22 am: Edit Post

ok cool..... I will willingly remove the "jam" from my list....LOL upon further inspection I have noticed that most of the "jam" tracks listed are AUD setlists, and Phil's official list do not in fact list them.

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of page Link to this message  By Tom (Wabisabi) on Monday, July 07, 2008 - 12:25 am: Edit Post

Yeah, I think it's accurate when there is a clear theme, spontaneous re-harmonization, or cohesive moverment... the jam out of Wharf Rat from Watkins Glen Soundcheck... now that's a JAM!

Cool, I was looking at the B&K version too, they are not my fave mics for indoor shows, but outdoors where the bass has room to breathe, B&Ks can really show their muscle, our should i say, capture the muscle of well reproduced bass, and MJ does not skimp on power for reinforcement. 8o)

See you all futhur on up the road. *o)

Warren's rig was set up minutes b4 the band took the stage. He showed up back stage just in time to join the band for their "huddle" & "prayer". This is the first Phil show I've seen since the Q, so I was thoroughly impressed! Lucky to be there, lucky to catch Warren w/Phil. Mexican Girl really stood out, w/JAckie & Warren tearing it up. Althea was perfect!

I can't believe people are still posting comments like "...Too bad it's only Phil & Friends" WTF else is there?

warren really helped this show get going early. i think he spurred larry on to play a little hotter a little sooner than normal. in the other shows i have seen with LC (7 or 8 shows with him in the lineup), it has always seemed like it took a while for him to get going...

i felt like warren's presence was pushing LC to step it up sooner than normal.

i have been very critical of warren in the past... i think i had an OD of warren in 2003/2004... but this was a really well done sit-in... i think having him start the show with them was perfect.

his guitar work on althea was pretty sweet IMO.
