good evening
hope all is well
STAGGER LEE WED NITE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
where is everybody
i'm over here - what is this, hyde and sikh?
I swore they teased Cosmic Charlie at the start of the second set last night, then JK put the slide away and they ripped right into Cassidy. Something to listen up for tonight.
I feel a Dancin tonite . . . and prayin for a TERRAPIN !!!
Last night was just awesome
WE WANT PHIL
WE WANT PHIL
let's hear it tonight folks . . .
So I called several of the gems last night on yesterday's post: New Speedway, Doin that Rag, Reuben and Cherise...as well as the Not Fade.
Here's a few I see tonight:
Terrapin - called it yesterday and if they DON'T play it tonight I will be very surprised
China Doll or Comes a Time
Viola Lee
HC Sunshine
GDTRFB
A couple I can see but could take or leave:
Truckin
Dancin
Caution
Jack Straw
WISHING for a HSF - hook a brother up guys!!!
hold on to your hats!!!! it's gonna be a phil setlist!! :-))
I got a good feeling about tonight!!
+1 on the HSF although nowadays I don't even so much need the F :-)
Anybody giving odds on
DS
TOO
or god help me a DEW???
How funny! I feel the same way about the F...
>>>hold on to your hats!!!! it's gonna be a phil setlist!! :-))
I thought the missus said it was gonna be a Jill setlist...
Wharf Rat tonight
"Girl has been true, true to me, true till my dying day", he said.
Terrapin will be played tonight! it's going to get spiritual in there...
as far as a ballad... lets hope they don't count Terrapin as it.. they need to play a ballad every night!.. John can do it. It just adds so much more balance to the show which is needed for this band..
I'm thinking Wharf Rat, Comes A Time, or China Doll..
Any of those will do. I'm off to the show!Refreshed from last night and ready for a barnburner tonight!! For all youz that aren't going I hope you find a stream. Happy Trails!
It's funny, I spent the last month [deliberately] playing the role of skeptic, but who can deny that it feels great to have those pre-show jitters again :-) !!!!
good evening
Hey Joe, over here in Bean town. Couldn't make Chi town. Enjoy the show. If you get Comes a Time and Duprees, I wouldn't be surprised. Maybe even a Mountains, that would be nice!!
Taking away the moments that make up a dull day.......
OMG get me out of work - I have a show to go to damnit!!!!
Keep your Day Job.....If only my night job paid
just a song of gomorrah see ya later Joe
wonder how she blew it up........
or if they burned it down...
Us Colorado folks are keeping a close eYe on the doings in Chi-Town. May you all enjoy a blessed evening at the Aud!!
Hey now. If anyone receives from AEG a Furthur presale password for the MCU Park shows in Coney Island, Brooklyn on June 26 and June 27 and you are not using it could you please email it to me at mandjona102@yahoo.com. I would be very grateful.
Thank you.
Freakboy
Can anybody give me a quick version of how you can stream a feed out of the show and post it live or almost live? I appreciate it..I think it is just unbelievable that back in the day you had to wait 1-2 weeks for tapes now you get the show that night at almost live time.. Awesome!! Thx all!!

so one of you has Jack and one does not
Joe help me out here buddy
Has anyone noticed that the overall tone of Phils bass is better, but he seems to have gotten rid of the SERIOUS bottom end that he used to have. I seem to remember thinking parts of the ceiling were going to start to come down when he really hit those low notes. Now he doesn't have those cabinets with the large(15 or 18 inch) speakers on stage. Any thoughts?

Stagger for sure tonight
Cali- I was at RCMH and Mohegan Sun plus every other form of the band and it seems that he has really backed off the earth shaking bombs he used to drop. I dont think it is any one bass as much as it is his on-stage rig. I'm not a pro so I was wondering if anyone else has noticed the same thing
That is BY far the BEST set 1 (on paper) of the tour!

I am also very happy to see Phil playing the Modulus again, what a great sounding and looking bass.
OMG! If this is played s well as it looks on paper, this might be the sunshine of the tour.
You can only imagine what Jill has in store for us in the second set
"The Mona Lisa must had those highway blues...you can tell by the way she smiles"
Worth the ticket price right there.
Face it. If the Grateful Dead had EVER delivered THAT first set, Planet earth would have vaporized on the spot!
Kev, I am no pro either..I can tell ya the Sbd from Atlanta is all Bass..Very strong and actually I like it..then my Sbd from Fairfax is much less bass..I also saw where he switched out the glow in the dark bass for his ole trusty familiar bass..Possibly the venues they play in also..some small some a bit bigger etc!!! :-)
Hope I am not late for the Bus, But who is Jill?
who is Jill?

Ted, Jill just called and asked where Pigpen went. I told her he was out with Keith and might show up during the latter part of set II.

All of the boards sound great. I'm definately not bitching, I think his playing and tone are better than ever. Missingfinger is right, if the Grateful Dead ever played almost any of the sets they are currently playing it would be legendary!!
I thought Phil was Jill's husband?
OH HOW SPOILED WE'VE BECOME...ALL THE SHOWS,ALL THE HARMONIES,THE RIFFS,THE BOMBS..THEY ARE STILL POWERFUL
It is hlp
Good one Help!!
Jill is Phil's wife, and quite the looker!
Phil was dropping huge bombs that I could hardly believe at the 12/30 and 12/31 shows in SF.
Have not seen them since then but I am going to Portland and Phil's Birthday Bash.
And I live in Alaska above the Arctic Circle.
Yea the Jack straw Sbd from atlants sounds like a 1987-89 Jack straw...Phil is just bombing it big time at just the right ole parts!!!
That was really more like a second set...should be interesting what is in the 2nd set.
Man, wish I was there.
In all seriousness... I did an in-store with Phil in 2001. Jill was there and was very, very cool. But um, Phil runs his show, believe me. His personality is pretty damn strong. Loves Jill, But Phil calls all his own shots... For sure.
Good night all..Tomorrow comes early on the east coast..Have a good night all..
I don't even wanna guess about this second set. maybe mostly typical "First Set" songs. I imagine the heads there are going nuts. Well worth the wait for this sweet 2 night run in Chi Town. Wish I was there.
Yeah, The Fellas are all over the place with this tour... really lovin' their vibe.
It seems as if we sit every other night trying to figure out, "well let's see, they did this here and they did this there, but they played this last night, so that can't happen, but if they did this here, then that must be so they can put this there because what they did earlier is was a tease to put this there, but the tease they did two days ago didn't happen until there... so..."
YOU GUYS GOTTA LOVE THIS SHIT! JUST LIKE THE OLD DAYS!!! I DO LOVE THIS BAND!!!!!

Mike I also have a few. I always let others match my ties because I suck at it. When I do wear the garcia's I almost always get compliments. Great Setlist....but kinda sux for me in Colorado that they're playing 1/2 the songs I was hoping to hear the show before mine.... Scarlet Fire, St Stephen 11, TOO, Help Slip Frank, Eyes, etc....However I am glad they got the China Rider outta the way because it seems like every reincarnation of the Boys plays Rider EVERYTIME they play here, thinking we aren't sick of the "Cool Colorado Rain" line..LOL...But after hearing it at almost every friggin show, it gets old....In fact, a couple years ago, "The Dead" actually played it twice during one run at Red Rocks.....Don't get me wrong, I am super f*cking pumped for these shows, but i still needed to vent....Thanks.

Truly A show for the ages.
SO nice to see that after what, 16? 17? shows they pull this off... in Chicago no less.. after "the Dead"s" debacle in 09 there?
Wow...Denver, Portland SF?? Look out!
Just got home from the show...and in one piece!
HOLY CRAP what just hit me???????
Never, EVER, seen any show like that over 250 shows at least...someone sid it best earlier that yesterday was set 1 and 2 tonight was 3 and 4....All those songs in one show?
All I can say is THANK YOU Jill, Phil and Bobby....
Nice. Just got back from the show, pulled up the zone to review the set list from the amazing show I just witnessed and there is this sick KSM jam playin on the Zone!!!! Outstanding.
The show was so spectacular i dont even know where to begin. First set Eyes, Wharf Rat, UJB, Jack Straw was smokin!! Seats were dead center about 3/4 back on the main floor.Sound was much better than last night, was up closer but off to JK's side and couldn't hear the keys very well and JK seemed to be very low in the mix.
And then the second set... Scarlet FIRE!! into New Potato (seriously) which lilted into a St Stephen that raised the roof and continued into the 11, just wonderful!!Thought they might bring it down after that but noooo, Phil brings them into the Other One to keep IT rollin. I really miss Billy and Mickey on this one, but nonetheless it was a fantastic jam. So Many Roads was next and i figured one more rocker to finish it off. Ok, 3 more rockers! Help On the Way and a mind phucking Slipknot into a rousing Franklins. Amazing from start to finish. I called the Box o Rain encore and when they struck the last notes I see Bobby set down the strat and pick up the ES. Looks like we get another one! Johnny B Goode brings down the house and sends us all into the cold Chicago night, grateful and wanting more. Wish i was going to Colorado but i guess I'll just have to wait for summer. These cats are bringin it!
Didn't see much of a taper section. Only saw one mic stand but they were selling cd's after the show. Gotta hear this one again! Couldn't hear exactly what Phil said before the donor rap-was it really a shout out to the Zoners?
Just got home from the show... and yes Phil did give a shout out to the zone at the very end of the donor rap.
Setlist looks out of control! Really wish I had been there for this one...First time I've missed Chicago shows since the Riviera run in 2000( still regret missing those shows too)Oh Well, couldn't get the time off work...Live and Learn.. Cant wait to here this one...Hope everyone had a great time!!
WOW! Nice setlists both nights. So, when is Phil buying his Chitown condo?
Seriously, great to see setlists like this. But whiy do we have to see setlists like we did at Stabler and Carpenter? The unpredicatablility was a nice touch at those and other shows, but:
Phil and Jill: Can you please strive to make these seliststs new and unpredictable without giving us whole shows of fluff?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
Seeing this setlist just makes me want to grab you and ask, "WTF are you thinking?" Obviously not much at all in making up some of these setlists!
Yes, that show was as good as it looks on paper, absolutely choice work from the start. God damn, what a song selection, and very well executed across the board. Phil was WAY more animated tonight, this was a Zone show for sure.
That was pretty much a dream setlist, with nary a clunker in the bunch. So Many Roads was the only song written after the mid/late 70's. We basically got two phenomenally tasty old school second sets tonight.
Playin>BCE'd>Eyes>JackStraw>WharfRat>UJB to start?! Holy hell that was a fine start, with hardly a pause and Phil owning most of the transitions. China>Rider to close Set 1 and Scarlet>Fire to open Set 2 was a direct quote from my first show 25 years ago this month.
Then we get Caboose>Stephen>11>01>SMR>HSF, WOW. Any complaints I had last night were wiped out tonight. JK's vocals were strong everytime and his guitar work was wicked throughout. Weir played pinky again for most of the night, wammy bend city, and was in great voice. And Phil was just a different guy from last night - you could see, hear and feel his every note. VERY glad I caught this one, a real gift for Chicago. Thank ya, boys!

That is really an incredible setlist; can't wait to hear the boots. But really, I think its time to retire JBG especially in the Encore spot...
Might be the best show I've ever seen in terms of setlist, execution and most of all sound! Seemed like they had a few mix problems on Tuesday but hardly any last night!
And I can't believe that no one is giving Jeff a shout out. Jeff was my MVP for the show last night. Had a lot of great runs on the keys all night, but his rip on the first instrumental break of Eyes was sick, sick, sick! I can hardly wait to hear that one again!
You are right, Cougar Jim - Jeff deserves a mention, too - he was excellent last night!
Any Live365 stream of this MONSTER show!?!?
This is the closes to the Truth you will ever get. Words can not descibe the power of the band that played last night. I will attempt to sum it up in one:
S I C K.
This will go down as one of the best shows of this tour. Honestly, if you believe me....just listen.
Bring that Summer Tour back Midwest!!!
THANK YOU FURTHUR...I believe.
p.s. They went on 10 or 15 mins earlier last night (about 7:40), which caused us to miss the opening bars of Playin' while getting to our balcony seats, but after the prior night's rushed ending, it made perfect sense in retrospect, and gave them ample time to fully finish what they started by 11:30!
OK. Here's my summary for last night. First a couple of notes:
RE: JK-
It should be noted that his playing style was entirely different than his approach in DSO. Most of his solos featured short one note "stabs" that eventually ran into a couple of (searing!) big notes with long sustain- very little of the classic garcia style noodling and runs many would expect. I loved it! It wasn't derivative sound at all and it gave his lines an intense, visceral edge.
RE: Jay Lane-
Hope he's OK. He was not there AT ALL last night (or the night before). He just sat there limp and barely playing along with one stick on a symbol most of the night. Kind of a drag.
Set I
Playin' in the Band >
quick and to the point- well played
Jam >
Born Cross Eyed
kind of felt rushed- like they were squeezing it in for the sake of the setlist er something
Eyes of the World>
shocking placement and the place was howling. kind of devolved into more of a sing along than a launching pad though. for me, it was mostly because I literally couldn't hear JK's guitar in the mix (I had perfectly centered 8th row seat) so all i got was rhythm/bass and phil straining to sing- this is where the sing along stuff actually bails out the song for me
Jack Straw
AWESOME. with one caveat- why go from the climactic "on the run" verse right into a looong keyboard solo- then finally JK starts his solo and about two measures in Bobby throws his hand up and caput. another sing along though so crowd didn't seem to care.
Wharf Rat >
Easily the first set highlight for me. Should also note that right before the first solo they finally cranked JK's guitar up in the mix and he noticeably responded- from this point forward he really started to dig in.
Uncle John's Band
sing along city. took my piss break early thinking this was gonna be it for set one- HA! made it back for the jam at the end which was actually the deepest jam of the first set- weird.
China Cat Sunflower >
I Know You Rider
Gravy + lighting rod to end a bewildering first half ride. people were just celebrating all over the place straight through the set break
Set II
Scarlet Begonias >
Fire on the Mountain
probably the tightest playing of the night. JK absolutely tore loose on the solos (see notes about SEARING, BLISTERING sound above)
New Potato Caboose >
if there was a clunker last night, new potato pretty much stopped our section in it's tracks. probably due more to the fact that the old ladies next to me couldn't use it for karaoke practice and had to shut up for a minute ;-)
St Stephen >
resume karaoke fest! played well though with looong disjointed jam that nobody thought was going back into the final verse.
The Eleven >
agree with earlier reviews that the band needs to back Bobby on this one. get the background girls involved to. the playing was good, but Bobby seemed hung out to dry a little.
The Other One >
no big bomb opener, but really, really aggressive groove and both versus. older people in the crowd lost some steam but the younger kids picked up the slack and the energy stayed crackling
So Many Roads >
by FAR the highlight of the show for me- HERE'S WHY- it was really, really cool to here this song fully developed by this band. i always felt these last couple songs sounded under cooked in the late 90s, but this was fully, fully realized. JK's singing was good, but more importantly he took [at least] two GUT WRENCHING solos during which you could have heard a pin drop in the crowd. JK: "so many roads to lead me home" INDEED his triumphant moment!
Help on the Way >
Slipknot! >
second highlight for me. i'm not sure why, but the whole slipknot sequence always sounds fresh to me in Phil's bands. when they go deep on this one (and they did!) its when they sound least like a reunion band (or whatever you want to call it)
Franklin's Tower
Eh. kind of tired of franklins lately. didn't mind phil singing it though because nobody could hear him over the crowd. seriously the crowd sang LOUD almost anywhere they could last night.
Donor Rap
Phil shouts to the zone!!
his mic was distorted from where I was so I couldn't hear the Zone shout out :-( he seemed very goofy and kind of punch drunk up there though- more so than usual- it was endearing.
Encore:
Box Of Rain
listened with my heart and not head on this one, so my subjective opinion is that I LOVED IT. ha!
JB Goode
if you promised me a trip back in time to hear the GD play this and only this song- I don't think I'd take you up on it. so sick of JBG at this point.
ALL in ALL and from a self proclaimed SKEPTIC...
glad I went. very, very glad I went.
My 2 cents:
1. lose the percussion drummer slot- too many chefs in the kitchen anyway
2. drop a song or two from each set and stretch out more on the deep stuff.
Peace y'all.
Chi-Kev - So Many Roads was your highlight for the show?
Jeez! I was not there but this show looks awesome on paper!
Makes me wonder when you see a setlist like this and someone says that SMR was the highlight?? I was not a fan of that song when Garcia was alive and now you have Boooby Weir singing it??
Chi-Kev are you a Ratdog fan?
Oh - just notced JK sang SMR. That's better.
Sorry Chi-kev.
HA! No way BW singing SMR would've been my highlight.
I think it was more an emotional highlight though that I'm getting at.
Strange how the littlest thing can grab you out of such an epic night, but for some reason it did :-)
well . . . Jill did mention she had a treat for the zone, I had NO IDEA she meant THIS.
GREAT GOOGLY MOOGLY
What a setlist. One for the ages. Listening now . . . sick from the starting gun.
Thank you Jill
I cant believe how soulful, deep and psychadelic that muisc was last night! I have never been more pumped to see a show and had my anticipation not only rewarded, but compeltely surpassed. The middle of set two between a perfect Scarlet-Fire and HSF sando was absolutely primal, 1968 melt your face off playing..then the SMR where there was not a dry eye in the house...pinkie bobby big brown phil and the jk-jc combo is UNSTOPPABLE!!!! Pics to follow.
After reading this thread there isn't much I can add. What a great time we had last night.
Here's a couple clips I took:

God forbid someone felt that way. SHEESH.

I didn't see anyone mention it, Jay came up to JK's mic after the show and introduced his birth-sister, who he just 'found today'
>>>>someone please post this show on archieve so we all can enjoy -not just the lucky few who were there please!>>>>
it's on etree already
I heard Jay's announcement, and found it touching.
>>>>> I didn't see anyone mention it, Jay came up to JK's mic after the show and introduced his birth-sister, who he just 'found today'
the mics seemed a bit distorted at that point and I had trouble making out what he said but that is awesome !!!!!!
thank you Jeff Frank!!!!!!!!!!
your the best
please include vbr zip if possible for us lame novices
I am so psyched for all you who were at the show!
I am sure we all hope this sort of thing creeps up more and more as this core plays together more and more.
Where is Puff in all this? and B? Still think about those Riviera Phil Shows. And we didn't even eat desert.
I'd like to thank Jill and Phil for letting us know that they are indeed paying attention to us after all these years :^) It's a thrill to know that we are being looked after, or kept up with, to see what our thoughts, opinions and desires are. At least I like to think that that's the deal hahaha. Either way, I, for one, am loving all of this. It just makes me feel really good!
Remarkable craftsmen doing what they love and loving every minute of it. Keep Furthur going! The Southeast run was Heaven, and from what I'm reading and hearing on the streams, is just getting better and better..
Also much thanks to TaperRob and everyone else that has been involved that I'm unaware of.
With Love and many thanks!!!!
Shameless Request: Please dust off Broken Arrow!!!! I was really hoping to hear this in Asheville, but don't mind waiting until Furthur is back in the Southeast <hint><hint> ;^P
Chi-Kev I throughly enjoyed your review, also nice to see someone splash some comedic insights in as well and it sounds like you have lots of patience when it comes to karaoke...did you get that girl's number?
The show is now on archive.

Apparently still uploading. Jumpped the gun, but that's the link, anyway.
still trying to come down from last night and all i can think is: three cheers for cody/codi/kody (or how ever its spelled)((i wonder if his family knows how much cheer he has brought people))
With the energy spilling over the net last night I tore through some old tapes for a show that I consider my all time faves dusted off the cassette deck and rocked my house when I got home today, Had the walls shaking.
Can't wait to hear last nights show!
:-) :-) :-)
just DL'd the flac files of the first set. It's 2:40 am here in SF and have the whole rest of the show to go and i'm already in heaven.

@CCB -> what show would that be? I just love to keep a record of what people hold dear to them... And obviously add it to my own list of heavy hitters :^)
I can't wait to listen to this show again my brain is still a little foggy.
Adam,
It's all subjective but the show was
Hamton Coliseum 1985-11-02
HOLY CRAP!!! This looks like a dream show in every way.. cannot wait to hear this one
any tips on uploading pics here for you all?
spencer,
Click "formatting" on left pane.
then pick "other formatting" in the new window
then pick "Images, Attachments, and Clipart"
copy the code and paste it in the "add a message box. post the message and a drop down will appear where you map to the picture you want to upload.
note that size matters. Large pics should be reduced in size.
I still have a permagrin!
Just curious if anyone knows what is up with Jay and the new sister. He came up to the mic and introduced her and another gal in a way that implied that was why they played JBG. He then said she was his birth sister that he had never met.....
Interesting! Anyone know the scoop?
btw, these shows screamed 1990 to me. From John's tone and the arrangements I felt like it was spring 90 all over again. Listen to the cassidy and the let it grow and tell me thay dont sound like Live without a Net. I had as big of a blast as I did back in 90 also....THANKS PHIL!!!!!!!
First time poster so be gentle....
Don't know the story behind Jay and his newly found sister, but the first girl he introduced was Johnnie Johnson's daughter. Johnson is a Rock and Roll Hall of Famer who was a longtime piano player for Chuck Berrry, hence the JBG reference.
In regards to the So Many Roads post above, I have to agree with it being my highlight as well in a show with absolutely NO lowlight. I saw close to 100 shows between 86 and 95 including Jerry's last show which, albeit messed up, saw probably the most moving version of So Many Roads ever played. Anyone whose heard that version knows what I'm talking about. I still get chills when I listen to Jerry's soulful "screams" of easing his soul. I brought a friend Wednesday night who has also seen about 100 shows, but his time was between 77 and 87. Very jealous of him… Anyhow, he hadn't seen any version of the Dead since 87, and had never heard So Many Roads before. He said the song blew his socks off, no less than Comes a Time or To Lay Me Down at it's finest would have.
But the coolest part to me is that they would fit it in a EPIC set list that I was blessed to see live. Whoever picks the setlist - Jill, Bob's manager....- didn't pick that song lightly to squeeze in between all those others. And IMO, JK doesn't take playing it lightly. Did anyone else notice him look up at the sky after singing "ease my soul" the first time?
Anyhow, we are all truly blessed to be getting a second chance to hear the music I remember falling in love with the second I walked into Alpine Valley in 86 at age 17.
Wednesday I got to bring my 13 year old who, God help me, likes rap!!!! When they finished Rider, he turned to me as said "Dad, that was Awesome!" That was really my highlight moment of the night.
Peace everyone, and enjoy the ride as long as you can!
I have seen ever Chicago show since 1988 and this will go down as one of the top ten. I know, no Jerry...but, the back 90's chi-town shows were not all solid and we had to deal with poor Rosemont sound quality. If you did not have good seats at Soldier Field, the sound was caught in the vortex of wind. This JK guy is one of us and wants to do justice to Jerry's leads. I have seen all the other "Phil"-ins...and this sounds like Grateful Dead music.
SUMMER TOUR REQUEST:
Northly Island
The Lawn at White River State Park
I agree on the so many roads- total tears for me and many others...re the pic posting directions, i can get thru the parts described, but cant get the image to upload into that funky little box that the formatting code produces.
let me try this out
worked for me yesterday
gotta say i feel really blessed to have had the tickets i had for both nights at the auditorium. the first night was in front of the right lower stack 4 rows back. good sight lines and plenty of room to boogie.i wished i had remembered to take pics. the sound was great but nothing compared to what i experienced the second night. the second night was pristine, loud, and mixed very well. i was just below the sound board slightly right (30 rows up from stage) which lined my ears up right in the cross points of the stage and all four stacks. man i was in the center of a spiritual ocean and at any point a huge musical wave was about to pick me up, roll me around, float me away and wash me up on the beach of paradise.
tuning, short count and Wham, playing in the band comes out strong. phils really thumpin' that thang. bobby sounds great, the best i've heard him sing recently. damn it's on tonight, wahoooo. great opening song to get loosened up on and well played. seemed like the guys were putting the feelers out in the first jam of the song which picked up into a sweet little jazzy beat accompanied by chimenti's piano keys tinkering about. then john changed the tone on his guitar or he turned it up or something but it was a nice dark little riff into born cross eyed. man the jam out of this song was hot i thought for sure it was china cat and then eyes kicked in. i love when phil sings eyes of the world. that bass line and the wonderful excellent keyboard work by chimenti. phil and chimenti owned this song. the happy dance was in full force. john had a sweet demanding lead out of the first jam and delivered the second jam as smooth as silk while phil bounced the song through the end. bobby added the sounds, strumming and back picking that took the songs to places of old.very well done!!! the smiles, tears and sweat were flowing freely at this point.it seemed appropriate that jack straw would follow. what a start!! a rockin' jack straw at that. chimenti and john both shine here with superb solo work and i loved the shared lyrics.
ahhh... the calming base line and rythym of warf rat. time to take a breath. the intro was sublime and john sounds great singing. bobby's guitar work really standouts here. nice ear candy bobby!! the girls really added a nice touch to the fly away portion of the song of which john sang with a lot of emotion. phil really pumps the song up through out. phil is a madman tonight. john totally shines through out the song, as every solo and verse is filled with emotion and energy. ohhh man.... you get feel it! the solo at the end knocked me over. damn stairs! at this point phil is laying out the canvas for the next song. uncle johns band!!! does it get any better than this? i love it when phil sings uncle johns band. smiles all around. john tore up the first solo with grace and beauty. the band is on all cylinders. the 2nd jam was jazzy and groovy, it made me wanna dance like a jelly fish and so i did. the jelly brought out the cat. at this point my heart is full of happiness and glee and i can't help but dance HARD!!! the flow of the show has been very good to this point and china cat just opened the flood gates. the segue into rider was good, real good. it seemed like phil pulled back the reigns a little on john. it seemed like he wanted to rock right into that rider. bobby sang great on this song.it's great seeing bobby in such good shape. rider rocked us out right into set break. chimenti had another scorching piano solo just before john let loose with a highly energetic solo of his own. a very well played set that had yearning for more. sitting there i couldn't help but feel lucky to be there.
i made sure to tell my neighbors how lucky we all were to be here. like they needed some weird lookin' sweaty guy telling them that. well a dead guy ale and some awkward conversation later the lights finally go down for the second set....
>>> Wednesday I got to bring my 13 year old who, God help me, likes rap!!!! When they finished Rider, he turned to me as said "Dad, that was Awesome!" That was really my highlight moment of the night.
Best Show Ever!
after a short mixed stew of sounds, scarlet rolls out of nowhere. phil is passionate tonight, as well as everyone else, but phil is certainly leading the charge through the transition into fire. johns vocals are very good and bobbys strumming is hypnotizing. the drums are strong but not over bearing, simple and steady. the tempo on this fire is perfect. at times, i felt like i was dancing in the choir while the boys bellowed out that sweet beat of the gods. ahhhh ...you can just feel the energy enter and leave your body, healing, giving and streaming. the fire was really good and the flow was outstanding. a short break, a soothing riff and phil steps up to the mike and croons,"Last leaf fallen" to new potato caboose. time to open up the eyes and look around. what a beautiful golden birth canal of a venue. the stage was huge and the players were spread out. the screen was full of delightful visions all night or so i am told. the music seemed to slow as i gazed about absorbing it all in when that familiar st stephen chord rattled my brain. boy what a catalyst that song is. huge huge huge. i really like when the guys sing together although phil took most of the lyrics on this song. bobby had a good scream and the jam behind what a another man spills was epic. john and phil really tear it up and really seem to be locking in and exploring the music with open channels. changing rythyms and time signatures are absorbed into a this wonderful stream of sound with as little as an eddy at the surface. great stuff guys!!!!
a short minuscule break and phil breaks out a huge bass jam followed quickly by the band. a little funky ditty that was a lot of fun to dance to. a dance that soon turned to a short leap, a leap of joy timed to the beat while whirling back and forth in and out all around. the eleven dances like no other and the lazy funky jam out of it was erie and settling. "oh phil no way!!" it couldn't be...oh my god... oh my god.. Bba ba baBA BA BA BOOM YES!!!!!! shits on now!!! the odder one.hell yeah, the dance is very tribal now. eyes closed, head swinging and sweat pouring out of every pore and like the music, not out of control, but on the verge. is there a better rock and roll song? fuck no!! get on and get down!!! the drums were really damn good and bobby was right on. bobbys song of the night.my only disappointment was they didn't rage this song longer. i know were all getting older but come on lets boogie.
so many roads, how can you not like this song? a gorgeous song in all aspects and john sang it very well, his song of the night. tears flowed out of my eyes while chimentis piano keys tickled my ears to no end.john wrapped it up nicely with some excellent singing and hot little riff. there was no time to contemplate the song as phil jumped right into help. everything is flowing and streaming perfectly. it's just one of those nights where everything is on. phil is so loud and plucking with authority. the drums crisp and loud, chimenti laying down the creepy keys and bobby is tossing out enough ear candy to rot my brain. slipknot is off the charts andplayed without a hitch. jay has some nice contributions here just before franklins kicks in. like a kick from a mule! the happy dance is back with a shimmy and a shake thrown in. i love when phil sings franklins tower. at this point every muscle in my body is twitching or pulsing to the beats,my eyes are barely open but gathering in the cool sights as i shake my head back and forth. the tears and sweat in my eyes add to the sights as waves of energy pour out of my body cued to the music. the franklins is smokin'.
donor rap already? it seemed like 15 minutes went by since 2nd set opener. ha1 phil made a shout out to the zone. that was cool phil!! box of rain, like the rest of the show was played superbly. john and chimenti both had short to the point solos and phil just sounded great. what a great feeling to have if only for a short time. funny how music can do that to ya. i would of been disappointed if there wasn't a second song encore. boy they didn't disappoint. good job on the JBG but i could swear it was going to be promised land when it started. another bobby gem in a strong phil show. this night is a night i'll cherish forever, like so many before. i can't thank you enough furthur for the real good time.
the music holds up to the setlist here from top to bottom. i recommend seeing furthur as soon as you can.

Get the board and you will agree....one of the hottest show of the Winter Tour.
I finally got around to posting the video I took at the Furthur 3/3/10 Chicago show
