Drum roll and roll call....
hear it's a really nice natural dell in the woods
no - it's on a main road - a relatively quiet main road, but one none-the-less
I AM SO JEALOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
AWWWW IT HURTS!
...WAS a dell in the woods, lol

Where is the parking for the show ? Lot, street, garage ? Anyone know ?
Parking is tricky. Venue suggests the shuttle from MCC (Monroe Community College). Within walking distance is a "grass lot" on S. Goodman (off Highland Ave), but be warned there is also a blues festival going on that may challenge the parking. Not too much else close. Street parking will be at a premium. It's a small venue in a park like setting, holds about 6,000 but they'll have trouble limiting entrance to those with tix. It is expected to be a humid 93 degrees and not much shade to be had, but we'll take it to have these guys local!
This is gonna be sweeeeeeeeeet...

Hopefully more to come!
set 1:
saturday nite
cumberland

be women ~
operator
cosmic
(sorry not sure of segues)
set 2:
new speedway
>>>30 min lag.
great...thanks...that's what thought
I think from reading the reviews Levon has got to get a good hour + and got to start pretty close to ticket time. Seems this tour is Levon Helm Band not Ramble on the Road - so he is playing most Dirt Farmer and Band songs as opposed to the variety of covers at the Beacon last Spring. Think its going to be pretty amazing........ and then we get PHIL.
My estimate is
5:15 - 6:30 - Levon
7:00 - 8:00 - Set I
8:45 - 11:00 - Set II + E
Anyone know for sure ??
Ok, don't know about the HCSunshine opener reported by Mark, but will check it w/ my friends.

Also, Levon started right around ticket time, played a tad over an hour but not by much.
The venue is amazing.
Phil dedicated set two to a couple in the crowd, mainly a girl named Sara J(ay?)? Phil said he was a hopeless romantic and the guy who asked him was so sweet... Dunno... But cool for them...
what a great show, I went up front and asked Phil to play 'Unbroken chain' because Highland Park, where the show was, has the most Lilac bushes in one Location, in the whole world Planted by friends and George Eastman of Eastman Kodak, Rochesterians know we have the Lilac festival every year, but its ok cause Phil blew our minds, great set list and the only thing i said was: turn it up ! and : " More harmonics " LOl " hot schvitzz" my friends, and Im singining as loud as I can : "Lilac Rain Unbroken chain" lol ... it was kind of funny, Angel Rick and Levon was a great start...........
Yes and Pleasse dont dominate the rap Jack, if got nothin better to say, I begged - for Un broken Chain, cause its the most Lilac bushes in the world, Lilac Rain unbroken chain? everyones voice sounded great ! and you all need to eat more even it is 96 degrees in the shade T H A N X, once you get used to that new monster bass play more NOEL and turn it up !!! LOL
>>>Phil dedicated set two to a couple in the crowd, mainly a girl named Sara J(ay?)? Phil said he was a hopeless romantic and the guy who asked him was so sweet... Dunno... But cool for them......
Nice! What a Sweetie that Phil IS
@ Summerfest - after 1st set Phil signed a fan's book. It was Pretty Cool- Phil walked to the edge of the stage, motioned for the book to be passed up to the stage- Phil on bended knee scribbled in it for a bit...(wonder what he wrote?).
Anywho, Phil passed the book back to security and the crowed passed it back to owner!
Right On Phil, Sweet Move,
He so made that persons night (month +)!!!! LoL
{{{{ Very Cool to See the Love }}}} ;)
2nights show looks Killer! Hope All had a Grateful Time!
Lots of love has performed on that stage, I wish the Lilacs were still in bloom, great show... Thanx :0 lots of love
First concert in the States in three years for me - exceeded all my expectations. Band was fantastic, the sound was impeccable and the venue was one of the best places I have ever seen a show. Pretty much a perfect day and a perfect gig.
nice to hear phil dedicated the show and signed someones book. i caught the operator at the warfield and would love to hear it again...along with til the morning comes...those are some great ones that i think he will start pulling out more frequently in first sets
-they should never have taken the very best-
Maiden voyage Phil show...many Dead, Dog, and other variations of the old band but first time Phil. And, what a fantatic show it was. Awesome venue, all summer rochester shows should be at the bowl. Saturday night opener was a real treat. Wonderful opening set with Cumberland, Me and My Uncle, Brown Eyed Women, and Cosmic Charlie to close the first set...remarkable. Jackie Greene is ass kickin' guitarist. The second set was also awesome...He's Gone Wow! Morning Dew was wonderful although cut short. I guess they saved the jams for the Help Slip which was Smokin' and the Franklins as well. Trucking was the appropriate song to end the night for me. All Dead, all Phil and all night long. Thanks a million Phil and Friends. Levon you rocked as well and it was a treat to be in your company.
See you at the DogCMAC!
Rachacha!
Phil's new bass is great. The second set was sick. I spent set one in the front row and my ribcage was rattling just as had been hoped. For set two I went into the park outside the venue and the sound quality there was amazing, almost better than inside.
I hope they play at the Highland Bowl again. The show would rate as one of the best Phil shows I've ever seen along with the first Gathering of the Vibes shows a few years back.
I may have prematurally judged this lineup of musicians. They are sick.
Wow!!!
What a venue!!! Levon was incredible!!! Smiles all over the stage with many sit-ins.
Phil delivered the goods too. P & F just owns Help/Slip/Franklin's!!! Grate show, Grate venue, Grate night.

sorry about the double...
Help>SLIP
just to be clear about this show:
A+++
Take a listen to the nice recordings. The jamming in set 2 was ear-catching and mind bending, at times.
looking forward to hearing jones beach.
Well, will try to post more later...
The show, the vibe was simply amazing...
First Set overall was stellar...
Second Set...He's gone was a bit weak for me...Morning Dew had a bit of a technical difficulties...
The Help>Slip>Franklin's was the show stealer...
Or as quoted by a good friend and long time Dead head...
The "Help>ScrambleKnot>Franklin's"...It was one of the most intense pieces of music I have ever witnessed...absolutely, utterly, unreal...The entire band literally seemed possessed...
Phil was locked in...head shaking, body crouching bombastic bass lines...Molitz was slamming, cranking and blasting his keys...Jackie and Larry trading licks and Molo...ohhh Molo, was as always layin' it down...
The venue and pholks were all cool...you could walk to the front w/out even a nudge...Security was around, and even Cops...but, not hassling anyone...
Another realm was opened, there is no doubt in my mind, and those lucky enough to see it, took a step inside...
Thank you Phil!
Probably the best venue for it *simplicity* I have encountered in many a year. It truly was like a back yard private party where we were ALL appriciated & welcome.
You could dance or BE anywhere you wanted completely barefoot footloose & fancy-free.
I came up from Brooklyn alone to catch this show, and I am *SO* glad I did! One of the all-round best experiences I have had recently. The venue was perfect. Honestly, You couldn't ask for a better place to see this band. It was like an Alpine Valley in miniature- somehow spacious and intimate at the same time and in the middle of a sea of green. Not bad for a city park! The scene was mellow, packed in with Heads of all ages: old-timers, medium-timers (like me, 36) and a ton of younger fans who probably never saw the Dead, but gave it all they had and knew every word to every song.
The day started out perfectly with Levon Helm and band absolutely killing it in front of an appreciative upstate crowd. Highlights for me were Ophelia, Ashes of Love and a killer Shape I'm In. Levon is a living legend in New York (and elsewhere!), and it was great to see him so obviously having a great time in such a beautiful place. He always seems so happy to be alive and playing music, and this was no exception.
Phil and co. seemed to feed off the great vibe, beautiful surrounding and killer set by Levon. They came out with guns blazing and absolutely KILLED Sat Night > Cumberland. This band always does well on Cumberland, and out of the 5 or so I have seen them play this one was the tops. It absolutely smoked with energy and tight playing. I knew we were in for a great day and night.
Next was the first Me and My Uncle I've heard this band do, and I absolutely loved it. Larry on the pedal steel, and a darker, mellower take on it by Jackie. It reminded me of some of the very early, early versions I've heard the Dead do back in the 60s. The jam into BEW was great and kept me guessing until the main theme emerged. Really tight version and a total crowd pleaser.
Jackie tunes are a really divisive subject these days. To me, they are like Brent songs. Some people REALLY love them, some REALLY don't, and most people are fairly indifferent. I am not the biggest fan of Jackie, but he always gives it his all, and I appreciate the talent Phil sees in the kid. So Hard to Find My Way here really broke up the flow of the afternoon, sounding a bit like the bland 70s middle of the road singer-songwriter stuff the Dead were an alternative to back in the day. I always had the same problem with Brent's tunes, but hey, at the end of the day there are far worse things than a Jackie tune on a beautiful day in the park, so whatever! The jam out of it and the following Operator were really nice, a pleasant first set treat before a GREAT Cosmic Charlie to close things out.
By the time the second set started, the sun was down, the weed and wine were flowing, the vibe was right and the band obliged us with a great set, which Phil dedicated to some random dude's girlfriend. Very sweet.
New Speedway was a great start, and the band killed it, like they have every time I've seen them play it. He's Gone arose out of a very nice jam, and it was gorgeous. I love anything from the Europe '72 era, and this song has a very special place in my heart so it was a thrill to finally catch Phil doing one with this lineup. It's pretty clear that Larry and Theresa have been listening to Europe 72, because the respect and understanding they give to that material is miles better than it was last fall when I first saw this lineup. A definite highlight for me. The jam out of it twisted and turned and stumbled a bit (as this band often does), but it eventually settled on a Candyman that never seemed to jive and brought the energy down a bit, but no biggie...
...Phil just pulled Cryptical out of nowhere and we were off again. The Other One got the crowd going with some great interplay btwn all the players. Molitz, as usual, shone through on this one. The transition back into Cryptical seemed to take everyone but Phil by surprise, but the ensuing jam was a treat, as was the Dew, which, unlike the Philly show I saw a few weeks ago didn't feature Theresa trading vocals, just Phil paying tribute to Jerry. There was a nice peak in the first soloing section, but once again this band didn't deliver the cathartic wave after wave after wave of cascading energy and release that the Dead did, and that made Dew such a sacred experience for so many Heads over the years (myself included) but hey, this isn't the Dead and it was pretty damn tasty as it was. I thought that was the end of the set when all of a sudden...
Holy shit! Help > Slip > Franks has always been a major jamming vehicle for this band, but MY GOD that was the single best piece of music I've seen Phil play in many a year. The jamming was incredible, the energy of the crowd couldn't have been higher, and the peaks that were lacking in Dew were there a THOUSAND times over in Franklins. I was dancing so hard, covered in sweat right up front and everywhere I looked were people just blissed out and in perfect harmony with the moment. There was a kid next to me that had to be about 14 years old, the age I was when I caught my first Dead show in 86, and at the end of the Franklins he was just looking at me with this look I know so well- his mind was blown, his energy was spent and he honestly didn't know music could be like that. Incredible. The Truckin' encore was a perfect choice, so well played by the band and so well received by the crowd. A truly magical day and night of music.
I kept thinking about the Dead after the show as I walked back to my hotel- how we always gave them the attention and space to do whatever they wanted to, and how they returned the favor to us. In doing so, we all felt the simple, enduring oneness that we truly share with everything around us. This was the closest I've gotten to that experience in many a year, and I will never forget it. Truly wonderful.
Kit the last lines of ur post said best -
Truly wonderful>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
We are back to reality but I guess if lending a helping hand to ur fellow brothers/sisters is back to reality then the wheel keeps turning, by the grace of god of course...
Nice review Kit...
Side note to the show...a friend of mine, who for years I have been pleading with to come see Phil these past years (Jerry passing stuff) and this was about his 4th or 5th show, looked at me after the Bowl with the crazy look, like he just saw jesus in a thong, and was like...
"I get it."
"That was amazing...Where are they playing tomorrow? Etc, etc, etc..."
And I was like, "See Dude, you just gotta meet it on your own terms, just like the old days."
Anyhow, he's all locked in...and the madness continues...
Phall Tour Phil...BRING IT UPSTATE!!!
New Speedway Boogie yeah
Highland Bowl in front after 35 years ! what a wonderful show

Put on 950 miles this past weekend and despite being abit burnt on all the windshield time it was sooooooo worth it.
Excellent show for an excellent venue. Had a great time, the venue is perfect. Levon and Phil were both into it.
this show smokes and at least one of the recordings really Thumps.
Levon,Phil - all I Can say is I Loved doin shows with Rick and Levon and and 'THUMPS' ? I(went up front and I love Phil) and I remember him plugging in and then turning the volume knob on the bass up to Ten just like Noel Redding did ) from Jimi Hendrix, I'm doing 35 years of Grarteful Deads for Us- this year, and I'm so happy that Phils and My Doctors like to listen to music, God Blesss
Finally got around to downloading and reviewing my photos from the Rochester show. Here's a sampling...
