more crazy freaky musical happenings going on at the FFF. I am glad we are getting the Dancin' which was teased at Atlantic City a couple of months ago. I hope they do the funky live 70's version. Donna and Bobby used to nail the vocals.
FB
that version sucks...we called it Disco dancin when it was thrown at us....of course on quaaludes and coke anything was dancible.
Nope, they should go back to the original version, form a big long line, and go dancin in the streets...after all, it's summertime and i do believe.
WTF happened to the reporting we were getting 6 months ago? Is this furthur thing on the Phizzle?
Personally speaking, Hunter needs to write a tune for them and title it "The Reinvented Wheel"....
NO LIVE FEED?! What's with that?
furthur should be coming on shortly should'nt they?
any one have a tuna setlist?
Damn - party must be good tonight!!!
OK, 1st set was excellent, they're jamming Dupree's right now, sounds like Campbell on violin.
I'm having fun where I am, but I'm going back IN!!
1st set ?
What's Become of the Baby...Rosemary...
Teresa Williams was out of this world on Sunrise...
Hearing the whole Terrapin Suite...At a Siding was sublime..setlist after sleep..
The Dark Hollow stage featured a band with Brian and Grahame Lesh joined by Phil, Common Rotation, Hot Tuna and Skinny Singers (Jackie Greene & Tim & Nikki Bluhm) performing with Larry and Teresa. That stage was the place to be all weekend.
setlists anyone?
crickets
good one......damn westies.
and cicadas. A rare and different tune, indeed.
It would be nice to know who sang which songs and what guests joined in. Teresa has a wonderful voice, and I wish I could have heard her Sunrise. Who else played? What about encores?
Any of you lucky zoners who were there out of your tents yet?
Old style Kool-Aid served with the Aoxomoxoa set or something? Time to wake up, kids.

Thanks Pete - the suspense was building waiting for the set list over here in the UK

Thank you
>>the suspense was building waiting for the set list over here in the UK
why? it has been known for months what the setlist would be
typical british sarcasm, i presume...i liked it haha
Personally, I thought the weakest set was Anthem. There was really no build-up to TOO and none of the screaming guitar and chaos that usually ensues. Bobby kept fiddling with his guitar during alot of the set. I thought the transitions were sloppy and there was no Mtn Jam part after Allgator, into Caution. I think Jackie should have sung Alligator and Caution. Bobby just doesn't have the Blues vocals for those songs. I have seen better versions of all of those songs. It was better at the Warfield the last time they played all of Anthem. I thought that What's Become of the Baby was transcendant with Phil and Theresa trading vocals. She stood there like an Opera diva and nailed it. To me it sounded like a Modern Avant-Garde composition. I loved the Sitar like sounding drone during the whole song.
Theresa also nailed Sunrise beautifully. Much better than Donna, even though she wrote it. Terrapin was awesome with great transitions.
All in all it was 6/7 great sets of music.
"cr-ikey! what a rippa!" late great steve irwin (Croc Hunter)
Thanks for your take on it Willy.
Good to know for those of us who will be getting this after the fact.
Really drwilly after all the amazing music this weekend you start your review with the part you liked the least....... Those are the parts the good stuff was supposed to make you forget, why dwell on the bad parts when there was SO much good to remember.........
Oh in case you didn't notice Jackie is not in Furthur...............
Sunday was my favorite, and I called NFA encore,no big surprise I guess. Blues For Allah stole the vshow for me,after a scorching Hot Tna set. Too bad Hot Tuna wasn't playing in the dark,so they would have lights. Jorma smoked on a beautiful Gold Les Paul, and the sun hitting his frets on guitar made a shiny purple color, you had to be there I guess. Highlight Help/Slip,Crazy Finges,Music Never Stopped, and all of Blues For Allah. Love Bruce!PWS Aoxomoxa anhd Terrapin were also killer, especially,Estimated. John Kadliceck WAS ON FIRE ALL NIGHT!THANKS JOHN!!!!!!!!!
thanks to all the zoners who kept us updated on the festival !!
I thought Sunday was much stronger than Saturday--band seemed to be so tight through a lot of very tricky material--they nailed song after song, transition after transition. Bob made some funny comment during the Q&A earlier in the afternoon that a woodpecker had kept him up all night so he was tired, but he showed no sign of it, keeping everyone on cue all night. I also noticed him messing with his guitar/amps/ in the first set, which he didn't do after that. John was excellent all night. And I agree that Teresa Williams was phenomenal--it was like a (good) rock opera during Sunrise. She was dramatic but not over the top, and a beautiful voice. I was blown away by her, and I've never been a big fan of those donna segments. The band started off really strong, full of energy, and amazingly seemed to pick up steam all night to end with Terrapin, which was just mindblowing, and again, it's never been my favorite (sorry Terrapiners)--but , as the guy next to me kept saying in disbelief, "That was epic!" And he was right. It seemed like everyone was completely blown away by the end, and even the band didn't want to leave. Phil did a much more heartfelt donor rap than normal, and the band members hugged/congtratulated eachother and then did a group hug/bow to the audience.
Another note: I know some people really liked the addition of Larry Campbell, but I felt mixed about it. There were parts (Duprees, I think) where it seemed too predictable and choppy--I wanted it to be more syncopated and lyrical, kind of a vassar clements style. Maybe he was trying for that effect...or maybe he wasn't that confident to really go off in some weird directions. He did have a few solos during the night that I thought were good, not great.
But overall, I felt like I'd just witnessed a bizarre, otherworldly symphony. Like no other dead/further show I've ever seen, I'd put it up there with one of my favorites, both for quality and just weirdness! I didn't like the idea of them doing the albums, but I'm so glad they did. Esp. Sunday's.
AND...hope I'm not going on too long here, but I will also say the crowd was great for the most part--low key, friendly (except for the dumbfuck blasting bad rap at 7:30 a.m.--there oughta be a law!). It was a nice change from the Phil bday crowd, which I found to be on the rude/drunk/aggressive/pushy side. This reminded more of the crowds from dead shows long ago--sweet and melllow. Maybe it was the outdoor venue or the locals, and i'm sure it helped that it didn't sell out. Don't know, but it was a pleasant surprise.
My Order of Energy & Quality:
1) Blues for Allah - Hands down the best set of the weekend. a jaw Dropper
2) Aoxomoxoa
3) Workingmans Dead - Although I could support flipping these two, placing Aox @#3
4) American Beauty
5)Terrapin - The Flyer and Sunrise I would rank among the top 4 or 5 songs of the weekend, but overall I felt the album should place no higher than 5th
6) Anthem of the Sun
Keep in mind, a #6 Ranking here far surpasses any #1 ranking of any other live performance of any other live band in the land.....

"I thought that What's Become of the Baby was transcendent"
I'm really impressed with this version. It's much more refined, yet amorphous, than the Warfield shot. They nailed it. I'd like to hear them do this and go into Elevator. Great potential if they can hit it like they did here.
