Round 3 finds us again with sincere gratitude and much excitement. These seem less like rehearsals and more like monster "shows" each night. The energy from the audience to the band, the band to the audience was intimate & tangible from the opening notes of Sugar Magnolia to the last crunching power chords of Lovelight. Intimacy tonight was both delicate and powerful... We could take this band and this audience on the road and I think we would do just fine.
A few high points IMHO, "Mr. Charlie," is back and we got our slinky groove on. Jackie handles this just fine and they seemed to enjoy it. "Uncle John's," was tight, with Jackie & Phil hamming it up by rocking their guitars back and fro like 1980's Metal rockers, smiles all around. I am loving the Ryan tunes with Jackie crooning "The Peaceful Valley," with some sweet fiddle from Larry. Jackie noodled the "Stormy Monday," tease with Larry following and there seemed to be moments all night when we thought they were going to break into Allman Brothers tunes. Likely there will be some stage sharing on the upcoming tour.
The "Eyes" & subsequent jam was indeed another "moment" of a sweet Band & Audience energy exchange. The tempo was fast for much of the latter part of the set. Hard to contain that much spontaneous combustion in such a hot, small room!
"Standing on The Moon," provided us with more loving smiles around the room, from Phil to Jill, from Jackie to Larry, from all the folks I could see, this was another "moment" like Tuesday night's "So Many Roads." Jackie belted out the "I'd rather be with you..." lines and we were right there together!
Barry was good to us all night, as usual, and gave the "Standing on The Moon" & "Sugaree" a tonal beauty all it's own. The "Throwing Stones" > "Not Fade Away," & Lovelight were all quick tempo grit and we loved it. It sounded like Molitz left an effect on at the end which had most of the band laughing. This was a much longer night and I wish I had 3 weeks to join in, like I did 25 years ago... Great stuff. Love to you all!
